Standard rooms and junior suites spread over the San Carlos River Edge at Arenal Volcano Area. Exceptional Katira restaurant offering a selected international and typical menu and the best facilities in our 5 special events halls. Three swimming pools, sauna, jacuzzi, private forest, sport facilities and much more!
Having checked into the tilajari resort on the 4th day of our Costa Rican journey - we have been severely disappointed. The rating of the hotel is 4 star, we have come as tourists from the U.K and have been treated poorly with zero hospitality from the check in point. We have been checked into an outdated room with damp rising up the walls, dirty bedsheets and old rusted cupboards, I am not sure how this makes it a 4 star resort. Pictures available. When asking for simple things like towels or basic provisions, the hotel haven’t been able to help us. We asked for a map of the local area and their reply was “we do not have one” when pushed for even local map, again we were met with “no we have no maps of the area”. What 4 star resort in a tourist hub have no maps? Surely this is not the standard for a 4 star resort? We were informed at the check in to ask for the sauna to be switched on at least 20 minutes before use, which we proceeded to do. On arriving to the sauna, it was cold, not switched on and the door left open. We complained once again to the front desk - where Robert the attendant to check us in, just said “ I don’t know”. We informed Robert we are vegetarian in diet, could he ensure the breakfast are informed of this. His reply “you have to tell the restaurant yourself”. What a poor service for the San Carlos and la fortuna area. We would not return here or recommend any international travellers to come through to this hotel. So far we appalled with the service, made to feel uncomfortable as if we are in the way of there extremely non busy season. It has left what was such a great start with a horrid taste of poor hospitality and discomfort to our trip. Perhaps as we are foreign we have been treated differently.

Electricity service in the hot springs / forest is included until 9:30 pm. If you are in the forest around that time they turn off the light and you are completely dark in the middle of the forest, where only a bulb or two can shine on you. They do not distinguish or discriminate if it is a rainy day with dangerous animals to turn off the lights when leaving after the mentioned time, along a path of around 300m, a total risk to attend this hotel. Caution.

We are a family project, located on the slopes of the Platanar volcano, we are dedicated to sustainable eco tourism, we offer lodging, food and recreation services. We form a sustainable farm that produces lots of cheeses, vegetables, fruits and eggs, we offer trails around the farm for visitors and guests where they can enjoy a small self-guided tour. The cabins and restaurant surrounded by beautiful gardens and spectacular views.
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying for five days at Eco Granja Don LoLo at the beginning of March. Our cabin (one of three) was perfectly situated in the trees with the resident Toucan and the humming birds beyond the deck in the mornings and evenings. The Rodriguez family operates a dairy (20 Jersies) making cheese and butter and has a garden to supply their restaurant Las Hortensias with vegetables and herbs. Don Luis is the patron and his older son, Armando, makes cheese, greets dinner guests and is a fine sommelier. Younger son, Guillermo, is a passionate chef and has made Restaurant Los Hortensias (hydrangea) a local destination. This is a family dream to create a sustainable farm and tourist destination which truly expresses Costa Rica’s “Pure Vida”, but in a down-to-earth style. We don’t know Spanish, but the family speaks English and graciously helped us to understand and appreciate Quesada and the Central Valley. This is definitely a must visit. During these uncertain times staying in a hotel can be unsettling, but not here! Immaculately clean and spacious. The view of the volcano from our bedroom was a pleasant surprise as well. Gardens to walk through, a heated pool, and a delicious breakfast! I will be sure to come back to this place! Just perfect!

I expected this stay to be mediocre - a small lodge in a difficult-to-find area off the beaten path, with no in-room WiFi and limited amenities. Instead, I greatly enjoyed my three-day stay! I am already planning my next visit. THE GOOD: this small hotel is truly an Eco Lodge - my cabin was located on a rise with a view of the rain forest around me. My room had everything I needed for an amazing stay: the room was spotlessly clean; the bed was firm and comfortable; the shower looked like something you would expect in a five-star hotel in Las Vegas; the small kitchenette had everything I needed if I wanted to be self-sufficient; the floors and ceiling added to the rustic interior "feel" without actually being old; and finally, my balcony overlooked an unbelievable view of the surrounding forest and distant mountains. Best of all, the heavy-duty, no-bug-worry screen door allowed me to sleep with the sliding glass door open with the sounds of animals, birds, and wind rushing through the trees, without worry of critters joining me inside. It was sublime. I have never slept so well. Other amenities include a solar-heated Olympic sized pool under a wonderful wood-framed canopy; a tasty free breakfast with cooked-to-order food in the main building; and best of all, tailored walking paths through the property that allows you to feel you are in a forest (you are) just steps from your room. One of my best experiences was getting an acupuncture treatment in a special room, open to the forest, by a Dr. of Nutrition that also provides holistic Asian-based treatments. Wonderful. You are located close to San Carlos, which offers restaurants, nightlife, and grocery stores if needed. You are also not far from many of Costa Rica's most famous spots - volcanoes, waterfalls, and more. Frankly, in Costa Rica you are never far from either coast or many "must-see" areas! WHAT AN AMERICAN MAY NOT EXPECT: This lodge is not for someone expecting the typical US hotel experience. The only Wi-Fi is in the common area at the main area where breakfast is served - this is intentional to drive people off their phones and laptops and into nature and total relaxation. There is a TV in the room, I never turned mine on, and expect it was only local channels. The grounds are dark at night - limited lighting outside the rooms ensures a natural experience, and fewer bugs homing in on the lights (bring a small flashlight). The main building closes after dark but has an area out front for sitting and chatting – and connecting to Wi-Fi. Finally, there is no air conditioning - but this was never a problem, as I was out touring during the day, and the wind on this hilltop cools the area at night. With my screen open, I needed my covers even in the "summer season." OVERALL: A wonderful place to use a base to explore, to reconnect with nature, to meet the local community, and reconnect with yourself.

A hidden Gem of a stay In the midst of the jungle , This great mix of Rural and comfort shines in its diversity. Well preserved and naturaly curated suroundings all blended in with the most delightfull warm welcome. Meditate in between the trees with bypassing monkeys or take a dip straight from the porch of your well-equiped-house into the wild river . With enough respect for privacy the hosts will gladly let u in on Costa Rica’s do’s & dont’s . Passionately about exotic plants and wildlife evening BBQ bonfires and the origin story of the Finca are a bonus ! A Must for the more adventurous and nature minded individuals that seek outside the mainstream experience. Will definitely return as the owners maintain a natural pace in further crystalising their vision and expand this resort with the hand of Nature . (Spanish /Dutch /English Fluently )
