It is located in the Northern parts of the country and has a total population of approximately 7 000 residents. The name Outjo means “small hills” and is derived from the surrounding topography. This town is well-known because it serves as the gateway to the Etosha National Park. The town was founded in 1897 by Germans and initially served as their military base. Outjo is located near the Gamkarab Caves known for its many formations, but the caves are unfortunately not open to the public. Outjo can be used as a base when exploring places like the Etosha Wildlife Park, the Skeleton Coast, Koakoveld and Damaraland in the North of Namibia.
