COVID-19 update: we comply with all safety and hygien regulations, as stipulated by local and nacional authorities. Dona Esther is a small colonial style hotel in the center of Otavalo, just half a block from the central Bolivar park and near the famous Saturday crafts market. With only 13 rooms we can keep it personal, someone of our staff will always be eager to help you. Your room has a view on the green inner court yard, so you can take a seat outside your room and enjoy a glass of beer or wine after a day of activities, which our staff will gladly bring up to your room. Or take a look on the roof top terrace with beautiful views over Otavalo and the surrounding mountains. Our restaurant with a delicious and inventive menu is just downstairs, our reading room has enough books to buy or exchange and the Wifi is free. A choice of breakfasts is included in the room price. Please note that our restaurant is closed only on Monday evenings, we're there for you every other evening of the week and in the weekends all day and evening. Come and have a look, we'll be happy to have you as our guests!
My primary reason for visiting Otavalo was the Saturday morning Poncho Market and Dona Esther is located at a short distance from there. The Dutch couple who own the place are helpful and friendly, as are the staff, although few speak English. Wendy, the owner, had a small electric heater put in my room, which I really appreciated. Noise reverberates around the courtyard and tour groups in particular tend to forget that they aren't the only guests. The valve for the shower is positioned so high that I couldn't reach it; but I was given a mop handle with which to move the lever.

We do have garage for 1 car inside the house and for 3 more on front of the house. We can prepare dinner set menú, it is neccesary to ask at least one day in advance. All rates includes American breakfast (fresh fruit, coffee, tea, milk, cheese sándwich, fruit juice, eggs any style). We are located 300 meters from Parque Acuático Araque.
Luis is extremely nice and helpful, his wife and him are also cook extremely well (we had a delicious dinner by the fireplace). The house is very cosy and the lake view is great (we had the family room). Luis helped us with the “to do” and taxi booking (yet it might be easier to have a car to reach the property and go around). Overall very nice stay, but too short (one night). One could find the roasters noisy in the morning, but it is part of the charm of a house outside of town!

We are a couple who stayed at Hacienda Pinsaqui in our travels through Ecuador. Consider the highlands for the beautiful landscape and rich indigenous culture. Upon arriving at Hacienda Pinsaqui, we were greeted at the entrance personally and shown the amazing hacienda. Our stay coincided with my husband’s birthday ….. so after many e mails, Andres was kind enough to arrange a series of surprises. These included ; a couples massage, an indigenous musical group serenade and an amazing private room with an elegant and delicious birthday dinner. The service was professional and impeccable. We appreciated the hot water bottles placed in our beds as we visited in winter. The breakfast was delicious and varied. We hope to return to Hacienda Pinsaqui when we visit Ecuador in the future! Please consider this unique and lovely place on your travels to ghost amazing country.

Delightful and comfortable rooms, friendly environment with attentive staff that offers an excellent service 24 hours a day. The hotel is located in a restored, three-story building which, with its dark wooden finishings, Andean touches and colonial construction, combines traditional and modern decor. Numerous large windows allow in plenty of light. Since its inception in July 2004 by three siblings from the Cotacahi Pineda family, the hotel has received awards and praise for it innovative approach and design.
I stayed at this hotel several times before COVID, and always enjoyed the hospitality and convenience. I stayed there recently, and am happy to report the Acoma is once again open and ready for business. I stayed in one of the suites, which is very comfortable. The breakfast is substantial, with fresh fruit, bread, eggs, coffee, and juice. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the Poncho Plaza market, which is also back to normal hours. For anyone concerned about the virus, rest assured that hotel staff take all precautions to protect guests. Front desk staff were great in providing everything I needed. I am vaccinated, and I felt comfortable traveling around Ecuador. Nearly everyone wore a mask (except in smaller communities), and hand sanitizer was available in stores and restaurants.

After a several-year hiatus to exclusively serve student and volunteer groups, La Posada del Quinde has reopened. This time, seven of the previous staff have formed their own business. As owner-operators of a 100% indigenous-run business, they look forward to offering the same award-winning service and amenities that they did from 2010-2017. La Posada del Quinde is an ecologically- and socially-minded hotel that strives to make all of its guests feel at home. All of our spacious, heated guest rooms and suites have tile floors, folk decor, and bathrooms boasting solar-heated, steaming-hot showers day and night. Additionally, there is free WiFi. All of the guest rooms and suites overlook the garden and patio, where guests can enjoy a good book or snap pictures of hummingbirds. Our spacious suites sleep 2-7 people and offer roomy living and dining areas, as well as balconies overlooking Otavalo. The indigenous Ecuadorian owner-operators are incredibly helpful and will ensure that you have a pleasant stay.
Don’t even know where to start! Everything about this hotel and it’s staff was above and beyond. The owners/staff were so warm and welcoming. They went out of there way to always be available to us. They kept the beautiful fireplace lit for us every morning and evening as they prepared the most amazing meals for us. It was truly spectacular! The beautiful sitting room and dining room were decorated with amazing local textiles and gorgeous plants. Lunch on the back patio facing the gardens was breathtaking! Our room was clean and inviting. I looked forward every morning to the tranquility of the view of the gardens from our room. Water was hot! Loved it! No loss of hot water here. Again, the decor of local textiles was charming. Location, location, location, fabulous! You can walk to the unbelievable Saturday market. Where we bought local artisan blankets, jewelry, clothing, local produce and food fare. This was our first visit Otavalo and the hotel but it won’t be our last. We can’t wait to return to both!

The Hacienda and it's grounds were gorgeous! We loved both the inside and the outside. Inside the decor was elaborate and comfortable. Outside the gardens were lush. Additionally, the Hacienda staff set us up with a wonderful guide, Christian. Christian took us to the weaving workshop, hiking to the waterfall, and to Cotacachi for shopping and some amazing coffee drinks. All together, it was a fabulous 2 days.

Las Palmeras Inn, a 25-minute downhill walk to the markets of Otavalo, overlooks the often snow-capped Cotacachi Mountain. Its garden cottages have fireplaces, new bathrooms and patios. Fine food and tranquility personified.
This place was a real treat. We were surprised to find Hot water bottles in our beds to warm them, and a fire in the fireplace in each room. They have beautiful gardens with flowers and vegetables that I'm sure are used in preparing their delicious food. The friendly accommodating staff were always willing to help in any way possible. My only regret is we only were able to spend one night here. This place is definitely worth a return trip.

The Hostal Riviera-Sucre is located in the beautiful and historic city of Otavalo, Ecuador. Its beautiful Colonial architecture includes two stone water fountains and three courtyards in which to sit, read or write or enjoy the sun. It also features a library with a book exchange as well two inviting fireplaces to warm the spirit. The hostal is the oldest in Otavalo yet offers modern conveniences.
Can't say enough about this wonderful, oasis of peace in calm in bustling Otovalo! Fredy and family are really nice answering all my questions and giving me great advice. The service is top notch clean, quiet rooms with plenty of hot water and a extemely warm, comfortable bed. They have a wonderful garden to enjoy your continental breakfast where you can see hummingbirds and doves flying around.

An awesome lakeside hotel offers a traditional and international cuisine. Comfortable and cozy cabins decorated with a unique andean-contemporary style. Beautiful and peaceful gardens in the middle of a typical andean scenery.
The food is very much enjoyed, while looking at the lake, the design of the cabins are cozy and rustic, which allows you to observe and feel the breeze, the attention is very pleasant, the lodging has everything you need to have a good time.
