Customer service all friendly, we were looking for something else

Reviewed By ViaggiatoreSF

We had a family event about 30 minutes inland from here. We stayed that far because we come from Northern Ca where beaches are cold and grey and Southern California has a gorgeous coastline reputation, so we wanted to be along the water. I had no idea that Newport Beach coastline is all built up. When we got up to take a morning hike, it was all buildings and highway, no beach, no views. The resort has a small beach, but it's for club members only. There was three of us, Mom and two sisters. The room was big enough and we had a small balcony with a pool view. We debated paying more for the ocean view, but it looks like these rooms are above the restaurant, a restaurant that is very loud and so glad I didn't book it. The restaurant is extremely popular and you need advanced reservations. Our server was nice, but the acoustics are terrible and it was impossible to have a conversation. A compliment is that the front staff, the valets and restaurant staff were all courteous and friendly. One unusual story, I was waiting for the elevator and noticed the sky turning orange, so thought I would take a photo. There was a small balcony, so went out to take a picture. I was locked out! I tried to call the hotel, couldn't get through, no other guests were around. I had to shout down to the valets. They thought I was saying I was locked out of my room, but I was shouting, no, I'm locked out on this balcony. Finally security came, and casually said, oh, it's locked. I recommended a warning sign, so others don't get locked out. They were like, "sure, lady.", so the rest of the stay, no warning sign that if you go out, you will be locked out.

Good location, nice property, lacking customer service

Reviewed By CurbedEnthusiasm

Located near John Wayne airport, you’ll be minutes away from everything Orange County has to offer. The public spaces and rooms seem to have been recently renovated. Everything is pretty bright and modern. Our room was very comfortable and I slept great on the bed and, minus a very ugly stain on the couch, it was spotlessly clean. Self-parking is a whopping $37/day. We had breakfast in the restaurant each day and it was very good. However, the restaurant hours posted throughout the property were incorrect and they should be updated. However, the customer service I encountered left a lot to be desired. We booked a package on Marriott.com that included parking and a daily dining credit and yet at check-in they had no record of the package details. I showed them our booking confirm and was promised that everything would be fine, but alas it was not. My folio at check-out was incorrect, and I was told by the front desk before we departed that everything would be fixed, but alas it was not and I had to call back twice to get it fixed. While the AGM I ended up speaking to was very helpful and courteous and finally got everything resolved, some of the front desk staff are not very professional and kind of ditzy. Front line customer service is a tough job but some of the front desk staff could definitely use some guidance.

Great stay and even better service! The hotel was busy but they handled the crowd wonderfully. The staff were all very pleasant and seemed to be really enjoying their jobs. The hotel has a great vibe and the pool area bars and restaurants were amazing. We stayed in a suite which was huge! Room was decorated amazingly and comfortable and cozy. Beds were comfortable and the place was spotless. We left behind our iPad and they called us a few days later and sent it to our home fed ex. Now that’s service. Can’t wait for our next stay. We love the Lido house!

Overpriced for sure

Reviewed By livingitupinventura

While a good location across from the beach, this hotel needs an overhaul. Our room, while clean, suffers from overuse; ripped screens outside + broken towel bar inside (which the owner decided to fix while we were unpacking). Everything in the room needs replacing. The furniture is old + worn. Absolutely NO amenities for our price of $165/night (Dbl Queen). It was quiet at night despite facing PCH. Will look for other accommodations during our next stay in OC. Definitely expected more for that price. It’s worth closer to $70/night.

Could be amazing but lacking in building maintainance and service offer, and not good value for money

Reviewed By milesada

The Dorymans's has a lot to offer but is missing in some key areas. On the positive side, the location is excellent, the building is charming (old, with lots of old features such as the fireplace in our room 2 were lovely), and the staff were super friendly. Additionally, being connected to 21 Oceanfront restaurant and being able to order food from there for room service was an added bonus. On the negative side, the building needs maintainance and the service needs work. Rooms whilst tidy need maintainance. Bathrooms need regrouting and a deep clean, in the rooms some power sockets were broken, and lamps weren't working. Also no breakfast to speak of - a few boxes of tired looking cereal and some plastic wrapped bagels with packets of cream cheese were not inspiring at all (thankfully there are lots of great breakfast places on the seafront). Additionally whilst you can order room service from 21 Oceanfront, you can't charge it to your room, and the staff don't even have a service trolley to bring the food to your room (so items are brought individually by hand, and the poor staff member has to take multiple trips, and then there's nowhere to eat in the room - we ended up clearing a side board and perching on the window ledge as a makeshift dining table). Lastly, not something that can be changed but as a caveat to those booking, the seafront, especially the early numbered rooms, can get very noisy in a Friday night and Sat/Sun mornings (fish Market outside opens at 4pm). Didn't bother us, but not one for light sleepers. Overall, whilst it was an interesting stay not one I'd repeat. Grossly overpriced at over $1000 for two nights (inc. Tax) even considering the location, and frankly for the price and the lack of breakfast service, we would have been better booking a holiday rental and just eating out (as we had to do this anyway). I'm aware that covid can't have been easy for small businesses in the hospitality sector, and this could be a fabulous and luxury boutique b&b, but instead just feels a little like the owners are coasting on the location and heritage of the building to justify the high prices without putting in the work required into maintainance and service offer. A real shame.

Ok but no home run

Reviewed By ms883

The good: Great location near airport in quiet Irvine. Next door to Newport Beach. South Coast Plaza (mall) a very easy drive. Rooms are ample size with card table size desk and recliner. You will need a car. This is not a walkable neighborhood. Kitchen is ample for light looking. Pans and dishes upon request. The could be improved: Dreary paint color makes room appear dingy. No phone in room. No daily cleaning (of course no corresponding room discounts). No trash can in room or kitchen. TV remote has weak signal, did not work from bed. 2nd remote had same problem. Bathtub was cramped. The ugly: First room we were assigned was not made up. Bed was slept in, floor dirty, trash cans full. Milk spilled near motel entrance and was not cleaned after 2 days. I would stay here again but not on a vacation. It is simply not a resort.

Noise

Reviewed By B8789PPsharonb

This hotel is in an excellent location for everything if you’d like to walk to your destinations. There is a close grocery store, lots of restaurants, bike rental, beach access, the pier…etc. During my stay (on a Monday night) there was so much noise I only slept about two hours. There is an active construction project with jack hammers across the street. The property is surrounded by Newport and Balboa blvds on either side so the traffic noise is significant. The staff was friendly and attentive which is the saving grace of my experience. At 7:30 am they had a landscaping service use an electric blower directly outside my window. To compensate me in the morning they took 30.00 off my bill. Sadly, even though they were trying to make it right at the end of the day a hotel is primarily a place to rest and this is unobtainable in this location. If you require a good night sleep I’d stay somewhere else.
