I was checked in and upgraded to a suite at 4919 thanks to the spire membership. The one bedroom suite was spacious with nice toilets, big round bathtub that can sit 2. However the toilet lights were not working properly. I cannot off the toilet lights from the switches. Called for service, repair man is also having difficulty as the cables were in a spaghetti condition. We gave up eventually as it was pretty late. As he left, I tested the master toilet lights switch and manage to off it. However tv was not working at all now as seems like current was cut off during the brief repair. I asked for a room change the next day and was relocated to 4719. This room was alright with only one issue. The powder room (aka mini toilet without showers) in the living room area was emiting bad smell from the drainage system. I suspected this as I saw a cup cover (yes they tried to cover the smell by a cup cover.. weird.. anyway it won’t work..) as I am only staying for 2 nites I am not going to shift anymore because of this. Just close the powder room door. Breakfast was sumptuous with many Chinese style food. Executive lounge was sparse without any alcohol or coffee. Only tea is available. The coffee machine in the executive lounge was for decorative purposes as it was not switched on. The executive lounge staff just told us there was no coffee available even though after I pointed at the Off coffee machine. Indeed the expensive coffee machine was for decoration purposes... All in all, it was better to stay in classic crowne plaza in Nanchang than the newer hualuxe... So far stayed in 2 hualuxe hotel in China, xiamen and Nanchang. Conclusion- seems like crowne plaza and intercontinental is much better than hualuxe which you may encounter lapse or haphazard service.

I booked the hotel spa at 10pm and they forgot about the booking and asked me to wait 50mins. I checked back after an hour and they said all full. They then sent the masseuse up to my room at 12am without telling me, and she said the discount was for before 11pm. What a joke!

It was the first time to visit Nanchang and I really liked the area around the city, beautiful nature and friendly people. But the most beautiful thing it was my staying at Crown Plaza, good staff and food is the best.

Stayed here one night because of conference. Bascially, good. Chinese food is just okay, so I took speghetti for two days. BUT! God knows how much crème brûlée I took in the buffet here, super delicious (maybe other hotel guests disagree with me, but the crème brûlée really got me). The conference support is fair. I did not know the reason in details, but one of my collagues did not get his room in late night, so he had to take a walk to another hotel. Still worth to stay.

This hotel is part of a large chain: it has four properties in Nanchang and is in multiple cities all over China. It's a very large chain: large enough to have branded toilets and hand-basins and towel-rails (the first time I have seen that, in any hotel!). This hotel prides itself on being a "Budget Family" hotel. It's a two-star, one step above a backpacker's hotel, and we must review it as such. Everything in this service offering is stripped right back to the bare essentials. The rate card is a bit difficult to find: it's here: http://www.7daysinn.cn/product.php?action=pro11 If you pay for 8 days, you get one day 'free'. Basically, the rack rate in Nanchang shows CNY 127 to 162 depending on the season. That's about $US 21 to $26.70 per night. And that's what I recommend this hotel for. If you need to save money, I strongly recommend the 7 Days Inn chain. Otherwise, you may be more comfortable if you go up one more star rating (in China, the star ratings are issued by the government and very accurate). Security at this hotel is excellent. They provide fire evacuation smoke masks: you pull the mask over your head and pull the cord, it chemically-generates enough oxygen to give you 5 to 15 minutes to get out of the building without having to breath in the smoke from the fire. The lift certificates are up-to-date, the card-keys are re-purposed phone SIM cards that cannot be forged or copied, the evacuation diagrams are in every room, there are three non-slip mats in the bathroom. Even the emergency light units have current test certificates. The room itself is a good size. The flooring is wood veneer, quite attractive and easy to keep clean. The bed is a queen-size, and very comfortable (many Chinese beds are too hard, this one is not). The room has an individual reverse-cycle air conditioner that you can set to any temperature you like. There's a TV with a full Chinese cable service (try CCTV 9, they have a good selection of English programming). A small jug is provided to heat water (but no tea or coffee). There is no fridge (in winter, you can put drinks outside on the window sill, they will get very cold!). In the bathroom, the hot and cold are clearly labelled and the shampoo and body wash are in containers on the wall, different colours so people who wear glasses know what they are doing when not wearing them. However the special quarter-rolls of toilet paper become very annoying after a while. The Chinese have a thing about toilet paper: no public toilets have paper, everyone in China carries a large pack of tissues for the purpose, and you need to also, or you WILL be caught short. So hotel guests in China always steal the toilet paper. To keep costs down, the 7 Days Inn has these tiny rolls specially made for them, and only gives you enough ammunition for one day. But if the room service forgets to check... Well, you're doing a Robinson Crusoe because there's no other tissue in the room! The Internet service is free (as it is in most Chinese hotels). But it is slow and patchy. You will need to insist to get an ethernet connection (never connect via WiFi in China unless you are quite comfortable sharing all your bank passwords etc with the rest of China). Make sure you take the WiFi router under the desk out of circuit, or everything you do on the cable will also be broadcast to the hackers across the road. Unlike more upmarket hotels, this internet service is inside the Great Firewall of China, which means you have to change to Google Hong Kong: no other Google services will be allowed through. And do not ever open web email: the hackers have installed a "man in the middle" attack that enables them to decrypt anything you do on your "secure" browser connection. Microsoft Outlook connects via a secure connection they can't break into. The hotel provides breakfast for 7 Yuan (about $1.15). There is no laundry service and the front desk does not know of any (but there is one, across the road, turn left to go past the Bank of China and keep walking straight, do not turn right) that is cheap and good. To sum up: If you need to save money, this hotel is secure and comfortable. Otherwise, spend another ten bucks a day and go up a star level for a more complete service.
