History may overshadow Nagasaki in foreigners' minds, but pay a visit, and you'll find a thriving, easy-going, and welcoming city. Set around a picturesque harbor, Nagasaki also has a surprisingly cosmopolitan flavor, a legacy of the Dutch, Chinese, and British communities that have left their mark.

Hotel opened in June 27th, 2007. Nagasaki-shianbashi is famous for its song. Located in Nagasaki's commercial and amusement center. Very convenient for business and sightseeing.
Couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I have been coming to this hotel for almost 6 years. It’s my “go to” place when visiting Nagasaki and was responsible for me to chose the premiere in Oshiage. However, these last few visits have left me puzzled. Don’t get me wrong, Richmond is by far the best this side of Nagasaki. A lot more mature than H2, Candeo and a far cry better than the other “usual” suspects. The restaurant is amazing and up until recently the breakfast is the best anywhere. The rooms seem a bit worn down. There was a lot of dust in my room. The beds once gave the best night sleep, are now worn with age. Still the place is relatively clean. The staff, in general, are nice and helpful. Except for one guy, who I can’t seem to remember his name wasn’t as helpful as in the past. It seems that Richmond Nagasaki has a policy that if you are staying for longer than a week (which I was due to the Corona situation) then they will not charge you for two weeks (even though you had reserved the room and are a long term member). No, they will instead charge you for a week at a time. Which sounds like a great idea, but when they fail to notify you, disable your key, force you to pay or be “escorted” to your room and observed while retrieving your wallet, then marched downstairs to pay, as if your a criminal trying to skip on payment, then the place loses that trusting feel. Which is what happen to me. The treatment made me feel that my loyalty to Richmond is not valued anymore.

Hotel was easy accessible and located close to public transportation, shops and restaurants. We stayed in a deluxe king which was a decent size room for Japanese standards. The bathroom area was conveniently large. Service was fine. Great starting point for exploring the Nagasaki.

Stayed here for 2 nights and there were a few disappointments: 1) Initially we were given the unrenovated room on L12, upon arriving late at around 7pm. We didn’t bother to complain until we finished our dinner and realised that the room given was totally different from what was shown on Agoda. So, we went down to reception to complain and wanted a change. The receptionist initially refused stating no rooms were available. However, we insisted as we were shortchanged, and the current room was not carpeted and bed was old, TV was sideways, and bed was like a converted sofa. Finally he caved in after my wife nearly lost her temper, and said we are Dormy Inn regulars, and even Dormy Kumamoto was much better. 2) We were then given a change of room, also on L12, opposite the initial room. I wonder why they shortchanged us in the first place? This one is at least the same as the picture when we booked. 3) The onsen could be better regulated. There were many un-regulated onsen users who could be mainland tourists with no onsen etiquette. They spray the shower all over and are very messy. I was told on the women’s spa, there were some noisy and even smelly bathers. There was even one incident where a mother brought in her noisy 5yr old son with her into the women’s onsen. Again, what happened to the strict regulations? 4) Lastly, i have a sense that most foreigners are lumped together on L12...instead of sharing with Japanese guests. If not, our floor certainly felt like a Chinese hotel rather than a Japanese one on the nights we were there. This is because during the nights, there was a Chinese family that booked a few rooms on the floor and they were making lots of noises till late. People were running from room to room and shouting along the corridor. The mother was talking at the top of her voice post midnight. Whatever happened to good social manners in Japan? I certainly felt that I was not in Japan during that time. All in all, i will not stay in Dormy Inn Nagasaki again.

There are many great things, but first of all, the location is good. Located in Chinatown, you can walk to many famous tourist spots, and there is a tram station nearby. Breakfast includes Japanese food, Western food, and Chinese food.

The rooms were very clean and the hotel was in a perfectly strategic location - right across the street from a tram stop. The staff were very pleasant and allowed us to check in several hours early, which was a nice surprise. The breakfast buffet was unimpressive I felt, but right behind the hotel is an amazing Chinese restaurant (sorry I don't know the name) but be sure to get and get the Char sui-men (ramen with char-sui pork BBQ meat.

Nice business style hotel, loved the outdoor spa and that the hotel was very new and clean. Service was very friendly but a bit inflexible - need a little more practice with international guests but that will come with time. Thank you!

Hotel Monterey Nagasaki, located close to the sea, emulates the atmosphere and decor reminiscent of the time when the sea-faring voyagers arrived from Portugal, in an ongoing connection with Nagasaki that dates back to 1543. We promise to deliver a cozy experience where guests can feel part of the story and history of Nagasaki, imagining they are part of a scene from many years ago where the alleyways were illuminated by the rays of the sun and chance encounters with foreign traders were commonplace. The walls are adorned with blue tiles, expertly painted by Portuguese craftsmen, providing a colorful atmosphere.
During our winter vacation at Nagasaki, we stayed at the Hotel Monterey. It was a very pleasant stay. The staff were very helpful like directions to famous sight seeing spot and providing all that we need. The breakfast was very good. Big selection of food and they even serve Nagasaki specialties like the Nagasaki special noodles and castella, The room is spacious and a good nostalgic design. The exterior design of the hotel is also great. Another best thing is that it is walking distance to famous places like the hollander slope, glover garden and very near the tram station. There are lots of shops nearby and convenience stores. I highly recommend to stay at Hotel Monterey Nagasaki specially if you will travel with kids. They will surely enjoy the experience. Plus there was a free smart phone that you can use within your stay. It helped us navigate to our destination.

It’s a brand new hotel that open in December of 2019. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Everything is brand new and the cleaning staff do a great job keeping things clean. The 3rd floor has a lounge, free drinks (coffee & tea) and a little fireside area for couples wanting to spend some quiet time together. There are baths on the 11th floor along with laundry room where you can wash your clothes for free. It also has a lounge with wicker chairs and a huge window overlooking the world below. The rooms are small. I have heard that Some rooms do not have bathing facilities and you must use the 11th floor. So make sure when booking that you get a room with a shower. Did I mention the rooms are small? Cozy rooms however the space constraints will get old after a while. I’m not sure why the safest city in the safest country in the world would need such security. But this hotel will require you to constantly remove your room key & carry it around to use in the elevators. If I was staying in any other country than Japan I would feel this is necessary. If you are a foreigner, living in Japan, be prepared to NOT hand over your alien registration card. I ended up giving them my drivers license. Also if you have tattoos, they will let you go to the bath area but only when there are no Japanese around. So they will ask you if you would like to take a bath at 4’ish in the afternoon which is right before it opens. The breakfast is at a family restaurant called “Joyful”. Not bad the first time but gets old soon. Also if you want to eat dinner there then you must have cash on you. They do not accept credit cards. All in all, not a bad place if you was to stay for a bit but not for an extended stay.
