North of Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Preserve and south of Tambor Bay, along a forested sandy bay, Montezuma has numerous beaches, waterfalls, good fishing, seafood, surfing, snorkeling, horseback riding, hiking, and bicycling. Playa Las Manchas is popular for snorkeling, though you need to be mindful of riptides as you gaze at the parrotfish, rays, puffers, and needlefish. The kids will like exploring the colorful rocks and tide pools at Playa Rocas. Beachfront cantinas, bars, and restaurants are plentiful in Montezuma. Playa de los Artistas on the Montezuma beachfront serves sushi, pizza, and vegetarian dishes by lantern light at driftwood tables on smooth sand floors beneath bamboo lattice ceilings. Playa Montezuma hosts the fishing fleet. Hike half an hour to the endless sands of Playa Grande to swim, surf, boogie board, or sunbathe nude where the waves are big and the currents less strong. Horseback ride, bike, or hike the beachfront path north towards Playa Cocolito, where El Chorro waterfall tumbles into the rocky ocean. Follow the river upstream from the beach to find more waterfalls for swimming. Playa Los Cedros, a small scenic beach flanked by a waterfall and large banyan tree near Cabuya, has a right-handed point break favored by experienced surfers when the south swells get going good. The beaches and tropical forests at the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Preserve are protected as a national park. Surf at nearby Mal Pais, Playa Santa Teresa, or Playa Carmen. Surf camps can teach you the basics.

This family-owned resort is known for its natural tropical beauty, variety of wildlife roaming the grounds and outstanding customer service. Located a 10-15 minute walk on the beach from Montezuma, one will find romantic Beach Front Bungalows with A/C, a Spa nestled in the jungle, and a tropical pool edged by waterfalls. If you're looking to get away, this is the getaway place.
This place was quite the trip to get to but once we arrived it was so worth it! Remote, quiet, close walk to town.. We stayed in a Dome on the beach which was amazing!! The pool was very refreshing from the humidity. The jungle wildlife was awesome, all the monkeys were soo cute! We were there for a friends wedding and the group of about 50 basically took over the place. The staff was incredible so attentive and helpful, they remember your names and what rooms your in, the food was outstanding and the all around vibe was the best! I would recommend this resort to anyone, and we thank them again for making our time the absolute best!!

Nya is a design hotel encased in a chic tropical garden that merges into the jungle of Montezuma with unique wildlife. Nya takes pride in its wide variety of endemic and introduced trees and plants that do an outstanding job at attracting incredible amounts of wildlife like agouti, howler monkeys, the capuchin monkey, coatis, iguanas, as well as beautiful birds. With quirky and calming designs by young central American architects, Nya wishes to complement, rather than compete, with the exuberant beauty of Costa Rica's nature, hoping that our clients get to enjoy at its most what nature has to offer in our setting. Each room has been created with care to detail, allowing our guest to have a peaceful and nourishing time while enjoying the view from our all glass windows that overlook the forest and at times the ocean. Most of our rooms have a balcony or a terrace where you can sip on a glass of wine while you enjoy the healing sounds of the jungle.
Every single detail of this place was an absolute pleasure. From the friendly staff to the welcome drinks and breakfasts. Our room was next level, looking out into the jungle canopy whilst hearing the sounds of the sea just metres away. The happy hour cocktails were some of the best I’ve ever had, all with their own twist on classics with beautiful presentation which fit perfectly with the contemporary jungle settung. We enjoyed a few hours relaxing by the pool, with cocktail in hand and watching monkeys play in the trees before treating ourselves to the tasting menu which was incredible. It was magical enjoying the sounds of the jungle in the rain or relaxing on a hammock. Every detail was so well considered. Emmanuel and the cocktail waiter made eveyone feel so special and were exceptional at their jobs. I could not recommend this place enough, I put it up there with the best hotel I’ve ever been to. It respects its surroundings whilst still feeling clean, spacious and contemporary. It was worth every penny, would 100% recommend for a slice of laid back Costa Rican luxury

Hotel El Jardin is located in the center of Montezuma less than 100 meters from the beach. Its constructions are dispersed in various independent buildings, immersed in a exhuberating tropical garden, which is located on a hill, dominating the centre of Montezuma.
Stayed here for three nights in the middle of a family and birding vacation. I had a second-floor room in the block overlooking the pool. The room was clean and attractive, comfortably sized with adequate storage space, but lacked any furniture other than the comfortable bed. Bathroom was OK, but had one of those fixed glass half-walls instead of sliders or curtain separating the shower from the rest, and these never work - always end up with a small swamp on the floor. Hot water was adequate, AC worked perfectly. The commodious balcony with chairs and hammock outside the room was wonderful, offering both space and a wonderful view including a tiny but nonetheless genuine view of the ocean. The only drawback to this room was that during the torrential evening rains it was almost too loud to talk on the phone. My room stayed dry as a bone, but my neighbor's room leaked. Lack of included breakfast is probably reflected in the price, and multiple choices are available within a three minute walk, all for less than $10 USD. Staff was helpful, and they will have your laundry done locally for a very reasonable rate. I noted comments about the noise in other reviews, but I did not think the noise from Montezuma was out of line, and the Howler Monkey dawn and evening chorus is a free extra at all hotels in the area:) If I return to Montezuma I would stay here again without hesitation.

The Howler Monkey Hotel is located in Cabuya, a few minutes from Montezuma. Each cabin is located around the refreshing pool, just a few metres from the beach. It is walking distance to Cabuya Island, a unique cemetary island. Cabuya has 2 grocery stores and a few restaurants within walking distance. We offer four cabinas with an ocean view, a private bathroom, a private kitchen, fans and nice outdoor dining patios with hammocks. Free wifi, laundry and parking are included. You can enjoy your day lounging in your hammock, around the pool or take a short walk through the plants and flowers on the hotel grounds to the beach and beyond.
We were immersed in nature during our visit at the magical howlers monkey hotel - (HMH} The end place of 1 month vacation to CR. We planned to stay at HMH for 1 day and extended it to 4 days. Los monos auyadores and capuchins came to visit almost everyday along with iguanas , papagayos, frigates and thousand of pelicans. The host (jim) - a truly Irish man at heart , who fell in love with cabuya about 20 years ago- made his place our home. Nicko is a young Denmark handsome men who came as tourist and then decided to stay and help jim at the hotel for now. He cooked awesome pancakes for breakfast. Not sure about his recipe: a little bit of bananas, yogurt, maybe berries, cinnamon? vanilla? but them were excellent. By the way, I taught him to cook scrambled eggs (my humble contribution). Not to forget federico (el curandero or shaman) who is fixing the place and on his free time collects herbs and seeds from the jungle to make teas and lotions to drink and apply to the skin to cure different illnesses, rashes, and to make you a bit happier. In America is called alternative medicine. Too summarize we had such an amazing time there that we recommend 100 % this place to you only if you love respect nature and you want to share close encounters with animals (as this is their place not ours).

If you are planning your next holidays in Costa Rica you must take some time to go and visit the resort "Casitas Sollevante" in Montezuma. The resort itself is located just minutes away from the lively town of Montezuma, situated in the province of Puntarenas, in the southern Nicoya Peninsula (one of the 4 Blue Zones in the world). Casitas Sollevante is the perfect destination for travelers seeking an enchanting escape for their holidays.
A truly beautiful place to stay with unbeatable views. The hotel itself is incredibly quiet and peaceful, and the casitas are well kept and well equipped. Staff presence is fairly limited, meaning there are periods of time when there is no one there so we were unable to get drinks or order taxis. Be aware the hotel is a 20 min walk up an extremely steep hill from the Montezuma town - cars or taxis are essential (and some nights it's close to impossible to get a taxi back).

Calala is an excellent choice for travelers visiting Cabuya, offering a family-friendly environment alongside right on the beach. The rooms offer a refrigerator, an outdoor seating area, kitchenette and private balconies overlooking the ocean. Calala Lodge features a sun terrace next to the largest pool in the area. In addition, free buffet breakfast is available for all guests. Guests arriving by vehicle have access to free parking. While you’re here, be sure to check out Habitat, one of the restaurants in Cabuya with daily menus, which is a short distance from Calala Lodge. Enjoy your stay in Cabuya!
Calala Beach Lodge was a true escape for my husband and myself. We felt immediately relaxed and rejuvenated the minute we arrived. The staff and owners (Matt and Cici) were ready to receive you and get you started on your Costa Rican retreat right away. Calala cabinas are rustic and traditional Costa Rican rooms.... you can truly feel a part of the environment while staying here. Howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, local smaller birds are your wake up every morning..... we truly loved it ALL! The food is all local and so fresh!! Preparation is always consistent!! Every day we were met with smiles from the staff and owners, and questions with what we needed and received quick responses in kind. The vibe is laid back, relaxed and true love for their home. Made us love their home just as much. We will be back....Luciano, Peter, Angelo, Matt and Cici..... and Kai and lil Liam! Pura Vida

A property overlooking the sea and surrounded by nature. 6 rooms with cable tv, ac, balcony. We have a swimming pool and a private path to the waterfalls of Montezuma
The room was large, well laid out, and clean. Excellent breakfast with monkeys, pizotes, and birds everywhere. The only negatives that need to be addressed are the 200+ meter private entry road that is challenging during rainy times (we would not have been able to access the hotel without aour 4WD) and the stairs are equivalent to a three story walkup. I'm 71 and it was a workout moving our bags up to the parking lot. Walking into town isn't a walk around the block...we wouldn't rent there without a car. Other than access, it was excellent.
