Get to Matera quickly, because it’s still relatively undiscovered by foreign tourists. In town, visit the Domenico Ridola National Museum. Matera’s real claim to fame, though, and the reason it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the extensive series of cave dwellings ("i sassi") southeast of town, first inhabited by Benedictine and Basilian monks. You’ll see individual cells, chapels, and even some churches, many adorned with Byzantine decorations and frescoes.

Le Origini Matera offers an unforgettable experience in its underground suites. The rustic style of the caves dug into the rock marries with the best comfort and latest generation mini-pools . A hidden jewel in the South of Italy. Staff on site every day Daily maid service is included in the room rate
We had a fabulous experience at L’Origini, from the moment we arrived to the second we left. Saverio, Anna, and Claudia were terrific. Saverio took us to their private parking lot, only a minute away, They had great suggestions about where to eat and what to do, and were helpful in so many ways! Saverio told us stories about his grandparents who lived in that cave in Matera. We opened the door of our room (which was amazing) and the view was breathtaking. Lovely breakfast!

Torretta Ai Sassi guesthouse is in the stunning Matera with its famous caves. It offers an extensive breakfast, elegantly modern rooms with an en suite bathroom, and many spacious panoramic terrace. All rooms feature terracotta floors and some boast wrought-iron beds. Each has a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, and views of the Sassi caves. Matera Cathedral is 800 metres from Torretta Ai Sassi. Some beautiful beaches are a 40-minute drive away.
First and foremost this b&b has an excellent position high up at the end of the sassi so that you get a breathtaking sweeping view of all of the old city. The complex of suites are private and quiet. Each has it’s own private outdoor terrace. The rooms are in the caverns carved out of the rocks as is traditional here in Matera, they’re quaint and furnished simply with traditional pieces. My 3 children slept in the Tower (Grillaio) named after the falcons that nest here during the summer. The owner Valentina, is very kind and helpful and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of Matera and is involved actively in its conservation. Considering that you are in the UNESCO site the price is also very reasonable. I will add that in times of COVID Valentina fully complied with regulatory mask and social distancing during our meetings

I can only recommend this … Everything perfect: huge room with private pool and wonderful breakfast. Hotel helped with the car park as well after the organisation with booking.com went wrong. We will be back soon. It was so good that I wonder, if I even should leave a review and next time they will be booked out. We were there in November and weather was great!

The Locanda di San Martino lies in the heart of Matera's Sassi Historical District, and at the same time it is conveniently located at a very short distance (100 meters) from the city center. The Locanda radiates outward from the deconsecrated church of San Martino and the street of the same name, through a series of balconies that enjoy a sunny exposure and a wonderful view of the Sasso Barisano. There are twenty-two guest rooms situated on four levels, renovated with the greatest care in order to respect their original forms as single homes.
I have paid 252 euros for a room in a prestigious hotel and they have given me a seedy apartment with a filthy bathroom and when I protestes they have ignored me and they have resused any type of solution or compensation. A pity, Matera is a beautiful town that I will not remember positively.

I stayed in the new accommodation and rooms which are a short walk from Vico II Emanuele Duni. Both are in a great location in Matera and within very easy reach of the sights. A very clean and comfortable room with the hosts making sure everything was ok. I had the breakfast option which is in a nice modern cafe just along the road. A great stay and would be happy to stay there again.

The apartment was my home for a week, I use the term "home" because this is how it feels when you are welcomed with so much warmth. The owner is very friendly and helpful, he will be able to advise you on how to best appreciate the city and the surrounding places. The dwelling is in the heart of the Sassi and from there you can easily reach all points of major interest. Rooms are clean, the beds very comfortable and you can enjoy a magnificent view, especially in the evening very romantic. I love photography and the pictures I took from my bedroom window are priceless. I use to travel a lot and I rarely return to a place I have already visited, but I will definitely return here, it is a magical place!

The B&B and Sassi in the heart of Matera, lays the B&B “La casa di Ele” right next to the “Sassi”, a breathtaking UNESCO heritage.“La casa di Ele” is an ancient residence of the 18th century, with sophisticated interiors. From its balconies you will appreciate a unique and beautiful view and enjoy yourself while having breakfast, an afternoon tea or simply taking spectacular pictures. The memory of your stay will make a mark in your hearts.
If I had to make a top 10 of all the places I’ve stayed when being abroad, La Casa di Ele would be one the the top on the list. This place has absolutely everything you can hope when visiting a city: First of all, its location is perfect. You’re within a seven minute walk to the central train station and just in the heart of the city, seconds away from the ancient and wonderful Sassi as well as the main square, Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Second of all, Raffaele and his family, who run the place, are the perfect hosts. He made everything so simple from the moment we arrived! He gave us lots of tips and recommendations (places to visit, local restaurants to have a typical meal far from the usual touristic places…), and always with a smile on his face! A especial mention has to be made to the wonderful breakfast they prepare for their guests. They have fresh riccotta every morning, which is delicious, and Raffaele’s mother bakes an incredibly tasty lemom cake, which is out of this place! Last, but not least, the room in which we stayed was beautifully comfortable and with a balcony with a lovely view over Sassi Barisano, one of the two main neighbourhoods that form the old city. We couldn’t have asked for more. So, if you go to Matera in the near future, La Casa di Ele is the perfect choice for having a wonderful stay!

Sassolino B&B is located in the oldest part of the Sassi of Matera – UNESCO world Heritage since 1993. It was an Old Cave House. Now, after a careful and a long period of restoration became a toasty residence for many Italian and Foreign people.Sassolino B&B is divided in tow Old Houses on different floor. The Houses are formed in two parts, one is excavated and one is built.Every house has an independent entrance with a little and nice terrace in front of her, private toilet with shower, air conditioning, telephone, cable TV, internet Wi-Fi. Accettiamo anche carte di credito e bancomat.also accept credit cards and ATM.
Well dont believe what you see in the photos,Breakfast was dried toast bread with a box of jams stored in a cupboard next to the door and a 6 pack of fruit juice if we were lucky.Basically its a room to stay in during your stay in Matera its not a B&B breakfast isn't laid on you have to forage for it . great location right in the old part of town ,its clean and well kept and the balcony makes up for most of the not being there stuff.when you go here you are on your own ,and to be honest the dried toast and jam gets a bit tiring after the 2nd day .there is a good super market up the hill and to the left to get your self a decent breakfast.al good owner really nice guy but B&B it is not
