Visited Marshfield for a baseball tournament, great room and the breakfast was exceptional! You order from the restaurant, the food was really good and included a protein option you don’t get from a continental style.

Room was filthy. Hallways stunk. Big globs of hair laying by pool. Hot Tub tarped over because of a “maintenance issue”. Could barely see out any windows looked they had been cleaned with a greasy rag. No one available at front desk. Room didn’t have an ice bucket. Asked for one at front desk and was told only a manager could address this problem and he wouldn’t be in until the morning.

IHG brand so that's a plus, but the hotel is in need of updating. They need to do a complete overhaul and modernize and update it. The pool area especially. Staff are great though and of the slim pickings in Marshfield, its probably the best option.

Clean room and quiet. Good shower pressure, hair dryer and ample towels. Decent tv and wifi. No coffee but went to Kitchen Table for breakfast and was good. Would stay again. Bed was a bit too soft for my liking.

Hillcrest Motel is the only motel in Marshfield truly walking distance from Saint Joseph Hospital and Marshfield Clinic since it is located across from Saint Joseph Hospital. We are located in Marshfield which is the city in center for state of Wisconsin. We are known for our clean and comfortable rooms with lowest rate.
I recently stayed at the Hillcrest Motel (simplicity inn - new name) and had read the negative reviews. I needed to stay near the Marshfield Clinic because a family member was in ICU, this was the closest option. When we pulled in I was a tad skeptical because it's a bit rough outside. However, the new owners of less than a month are absolutely amazing - Darby, Brian and Harvey made our stay incredible. They are gracious hosts and went out of their way to accommodate us. They have made many improvements and are making more everyday! I hope I never have to go back to Marshfield but if I do I'm staying at the SIMPLICITY INN (Hillcrest is sold and gone). We are still in a pandemic and the hotel's online statement about what they are doing in terms of cleaning and keeping guests safe was confusing when you walk in the front door to an unmasked clerk behind the desk but a plastic sheet tacked up with push pins and scotch tape over 1/3 of the desk. There was a bottle of hand sanitizer on the counter but that's where it ended. Hotel guests are typically from out of town and often out of state and hotel employees have a lot more exposure. This was my only experience in the last 15 months of walking into a business and the employees were not masked. While in Marshfield, I had to go to Walmart, the grocery store and Perkins and was so happy to see that employees there were masked. It says a lot for the business to follow CDC guidelines. The hotel is worn and old - stained carpet, peeling wallpaper, the original heating/AC that is very loud to have on at all. The wood veneer is peeling off the bathroom door and the fridge is cracked. I debated leaving and going elsehwere but was attending a funeral and didn't have it in me emotionally to deal with a possible headache at the front desk. The place was quiet as there are hardly any guests based on the parking lot and while the place needs updating and repairs, it appeared clean. Although the website advertises an indoor pool and a free hot breakfast, you show up with paper taped to the pool windows and a sign that says the pool is closed and the breakfast was two pots of coffee and some generic granola bars - neither of which appealed to me. I understand that during a pandemic, you can't have sharing of food but there is plenty of other individual foods to offer and other drinks than coffee. I would find it hard to believe that this is how Choice Hotels is advising its franchisees on how to alter its operations during the pandemic. If you don't care about masking, why not open the pool and have a normal breakfast? The mask is the most significant mitigation strategy of the three. I worked here over 25 years ago and then it was one of the nicest hotels in town. I cleaned every one of the rooms and worked the front desk, I knew this place inside and out. I chose this hotel feeling that I would be comfortable in a place I knew. I was comfortable enough just disappointed in how worn and dated it has become. A lot of cut corners that may result in it one day being out of business.
