My wife, son, daughter and in-laws from Tokyo visited this onsen at the end of September. We have been to many impressive ryokan onsen, but this one was particularly impressive. We have had limited travel opportunities during the past 18 months, and we are very happy we chose Boun Onsen. It was beautifully nestled in the hillside surrounded by picturesque mountains and volcanic mineral streams. Nearby were a variety of omiyagi and street food choices near the main city center where the hot springs are featured . The staff were extremely professional and polite and were Japanese efficient. The rooms were spacious and the tatami mats and bedding wete warm and cozy and stocked with a wonderful green tea set. They have three separate onsen that alternate between men and ladies so everyone can experience the wonderful natural baths. The food was exquisitely presented and the flavors matched the artistic presentation of each meal. This experience was well worth the reasonably priced getaway and we highly recommend this Ryokan!

Lovely traditional hotel with great old world charm. The onsens in the hotel are definitely a plus as you can retire to your room after a session without having to endure the external elements particularly when it is snowing. Very responsive staff. As others have mentioned, the building is mainly of light structure and as such you can hear sounds from rooms around / above you. How loud it gets is luck of the draw with the other guests staying at the hotel at the same time. For us it was generally ok and the hotel experience outweighed this negative

At Daitokan you can enjoy not only the splendor of Yubatake right before your eyes but all the wonders of Kusatsu. Yubatake is without a doubt the most iconic site in the Kusatsu hot spring district. The dynamic scenery of the steam rising up from the spring is a sight to behold, not to mention the gorgeous, mystical illumination put on after dark. A stay at Daitokan will put the splendor of Yubatake right before your eyes. We have guest rooms overlooking Yubatake, so you can relax and soak in the pleasant scenery of Yubatake and the hot spring district. Our spring water’s source is the famous Yubatake itself. Please enjoy the best of hot spring baths with spring water straight from the source.
Overall I enjoyed m stay here. However, the heating system in each room doesn’t appear to have much consistency - on the same setting it would blow out super hot air and then quite cool air intermittently. The onsen, while beautiful, is closed 0000-0100 and again 0900-1500 which was super disappointing for those cold days you want to get up early to seize the day but relax later. Staff was friendly and accommodating to me despite my lack of good Japanese language skills. Location is great. Interior hallway floors could be updated. Supposedly had a restaurant on site but I couldn’t find it; saw several rooms that appeared to be abandoned or perhaps getting updated but with no apparent recent progress.

The hotel is 5 minutes walk from yubatake. The manager also gave a free breakfast package (2 breads, apple juice, and yoghurt). He also gave information about onsens around hotel with English. The room is big (compared to hotel in Tokyo) and clean. The hotel also provide yukata, small towel, big towel, and a basket. Croc sandal are also provided. I will be back for sure. See you in 3 months.

Inviting yet nicely tucked away, the "Yorokobi No Yado" TAKAMATSU is just a few blocks away from YUBATAKE - the field of hot water where the hot spring water bubbles up! We offer everything you'd expect from a hot spring resort hotel - world-class hot springs in a rejuvenating atmosphere, exquisite Japanese cuisine, and unforgettable local hospitality.
This is a very large hotel very close to the town centre. This maybe the largest hotel I have stayed in in Japan. One hundred and seven rooms with plenty of facilties so you do not really get to see all the people and doesn't seem crowded. The evening meal was very good and the bath water second to none. Slept well and my body felt great the next day. One this though, it is rather old and is in serious need of renovation.

Stayed here for 1 night, on the day i arrived it was raining the staff spare no effort in helping to unload the bags from the transport. The check in process was quick and efficient, my family and I were offered a cup of hot green tea which helped to warm ourselves a little as it was quite cold especially my elderly mother found it a blessing to have a hot cup of tea. We were also offered a welcome drink coupon which we could use later. Room wise was spacious and was tatami style which was something that was particulary enjoyable as the weather was quite cold and made sleeping all the more cozy. Dinner togther with breakfast in a private room which the room we had came with a view of a small zen like garden which made eating the meal more relaxing. Depending on which direction is taken, the hotel is walking distance to the main town area which is a plus, overall had a pleasant stay

The hot water in the baths is directly from hot springs. 3. The hot water has strong disinfecting properties. Our special Kusatsu Big Baths include a wide variety of indoor and outdoor baths, which are open 24 hours a day. Just 5 minutes by car from the hot spring district, our resort will allow you to soak in all the beautiful nature of Kusatsu! 15 minutes on foot from Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal, which is the gateway to Kusatsu Onsen, we also offer a free shuttle bus that’ll shorten the trip to 5 minutes. The hotel, surrounded by nature, will allow you to relax and enjoy yourself in a resort setting. The water is drawn 100% from the Bandaiko spring, the hottest spring in the Kusatsu hot spring district. Our sister hotel, Daitokan, is also open to our guests, and so you can freely enjoy the different sensation provided by the Yubatake spring baths there as well.
It has a free shuttle from the bus station. Our room was a Japanese style, quite big and the tatami was recently changed. The dinner and the breakfast were buffet style, it was the highlight of the trip. Just loved it! We had fresh crab, sushi, spaghetti, dumplings etc. Hot spring was nice, but a bit too hot for me. Outside 'rotenburo' was great, it was nice sitting in the hot spring outside while snowing. The shuttle bus was never busy, always on time. The hotel also has ski rental facility, kids club, souvenir shop, ramen restaurant, karaoke and stone sauna. We will come back again.
