Excellent hotel

Just got back from this great hotel after a week stay with family. The pool was absolutely amazing for both adults and kids, pool was quite cold but think this is standard for pretty much all outdoor pools. You have to be careful at busy times to not leave your sunbeds for more than 45mins as the lifeguards can remove your towels, but we found it was only really busy on the Saturday while we were there in June. Rooms were basic but clean and had everything we needed. Bed was surprisingly comfy and big. I'm sure it must have been queen or king size. All staff were lovely and were so helpful, polite and kind. Most staff can speak a little English, but we did try and order drinks etc in Spanish. Variety of food in the buffet restaurant was very good. And we tried the Mexican restaurant, which was very delicious. Unfortunately we couldn't book again as it was closed. One of the main reasons for a 4star instead of 5star is because the entertainment was very late (10.30pm). And also food is rather late at 8.15pm onwards. If you have kids this can be quite difficult and ours were very tired. I do think this just fits in with the Spanish way of life with a siesta though. I did see a few younger children asleep in the restaurant while the parents ate. Of what we saw of the entertainment, it looked good. I would definitely go again just for the pool and the fact that the beach is at the back of the hotel. Our kids had the time of their lives here, and didn't want to leave, thank you!

Thank you for a lovely time ?

We enjoyed our 5 days in the sun. We were the only English and felt welcome at all times by friendly helpful and professional staff, and guests mostly Spanish some French. We loved the animation and joined in as there’s not a lot going on in the resort. A lovely beach nice walks. There’s little train meanders around the resort and you can get on and off where you like. Thanks to the handsome Carlos who included us in all the activities- I’m (not) sorry for winning Bingo, Darts and Pétanque haha! Good luck in your new placement, they’ll love you too in Almeria. The hunky guy who did the aquarobics class was brilliant, always singing dancing and entertaining guests around the pool. Rooms dated but kept clean. Food and drinks generous, restaurant let down by shortage of staff. I’ve never seen waiters/waitresses constantly running to clear tables, set tables and serve drinks before- they worked so hard but kept smiling although stressed. Full marks guys! We did get unclean cutlery and glasses sometimes due to shortages of staff. We would recommend to couples and families who want a traditional sun/pool holiday, it’s a small quiet family resort. Would definitely recommend hiring a car if you are visiting for a week or so. Thanks again for a great holiday ✈️

Friendly and comfortable

Lovely staff make this large hotel feel very comfortable and homely. Large balcony with sea views and huge comfortable bed made for a lovely sleep and woke up feeling refreshed and energised. Massive outdoor swimming pool was great and then you could walk out onto the beach in seconds Room for improvement was the indoor pool didn’t open till 11am and we would have loved an early morning swim there. The restaurant area is very bright at night and no music lacks any atmosphere. No tea or coffee facilities in the room

Nice apartment without sun, food mediocre

Reviewed By memberHolland

This hotel says: Welcome to relax. This is certainly possible (not in weekends though) but it has some faults. We choose a cheap deal through the internet including Half Pension in a luxury apartment. Our apartment had a balcony facing north, so it was not possible to sit in the sun. The outside pools were not open. This is a pity because the weather was very nice. The free inside pool with modern art paintings on the black walls was nice enough. On saturday I had 4 collisions with some kids who did not understand I was swimming laps while the life guard did not speak a word of English. The complex, the formerly La Ciguena, consists of hotelrooms and apartments and was intended as a Dutch residential complex for active seniors. The busy golf courses are in the direct neighbourhood, but the sea is not. There is a possibility to park in the (not signposted) garage under the apartments but reception forgot to explain how the 4 parts of the remote control worked in relation to the four different gates. Our apartment was modern and huge, but there was only a half sized dishwasher placed at 1.60 metres, so a lot of people need stairs to fill the dishwasher. There was a washing machine and a Nespresso and one bathroom for two bedrooms. The couch was very modern but not comfortable. At checkin you have to declare in writing that you won't take the Nespresso with you. Food was made of cheap ingredients but the waiters were nice. Every evening you can eat some kind of fish and there is always some kidsfriendly food available. The guests were mostly golf groups over 65 years old and very few families. Islantilla has got a big hospitality school and you could see the waiters had had some training. Breakfast was OK with good fresh Orange juice. In the vicinity of Islantilla there are a lot of orange trees. The beaches are nice in Islantilla while the shopping center was closed. We made a trip to El Rocio in the Donana Park, that was unique. Check out took very long, because at 12.00 on Saturday a lot of people were checking in. Overall is was a good deal for three days.

Nice surprise

Nice spot for family vacations. Only 40m from the beach. Staff very friendly. Beautiful hotel with an excellent level of cleanliness. You can also have continental breakfast every morning on request. Rooms are clean and practical. The small kitchenette is very useful for those traveling with children and has everything you need. In my opinion, if a small snack service for lunch time was offered (like breakfast, on request) would make this place perfect for every families. I just point out a big failure in this area but there’s nothing to do with the hotel. There are dog poop everywhere on the streets, pine forest and sometimes even on the the beach. This issue should be presented to the responsibles and urgent actions should be taken.

Inconsistent service, won't be back

Our room was very spacious and comfortable and the hotel is in a pretty good location. Service at check in was excellent; however, the bar service was absolutely dismal when we asked to get a bucket of ice. The sushi dinner was very good but the breakfast buffet was very average. We only stayed one night here and that was enough.

not for us - we just stayed there for one night. It was cheap, big but thats as far as it goes. Everything is white - the appartment was huge The TV is too small - WIFI was not brilliant. Check in is too complicated in my opinion - took me 45 minutes to get the keys and I was the only guest who checked in. Its always a surprise that it happens so many times to me on this holiday that the staff/reception dont know which rooms are ready, clean or empty .... After we figured that out the key thing and the keything for the garage .... woozer ... make it easier please. Breakfast was included - its a breakfast room in the Ama Hotel - too loud and noisy and too busy for my liking.

Stayed here 2 nights. Room was ok with fridge microwave 4 ring hob. Limited crockery but we only needed 2 coffee cups! Balcony was Good and the charge for our dog was 8 euros per night. Bathroom was ok, slow running shower. Room is cleaned once per week. Did not use facilities as visiting family. Wifi was rubbish- connected ok then after approx one minute it disconnected, would reconnect but disconnects again one minute later, could only connect iPhone, ipad would not connect. If checkout before 10:00a.m have to leave keys in box on the gate, reception does not open until 10! Ok for short stay but would not want to be there longer than 2 - 3 days.

Fabulous hotel for a dance holiday

Reviewed By Backofthegrid

Lovely hotel for our dance holiday week. Lots of wonderful food and two bars. It's just a shame the bar closes at midnight when our dancing finished at 11:30 but once we knew that we ordered all the drinks we needed before it closed. Lovely big swimming pool outside. In-between the weekends we virtually had the place to ourselves. It got a lot busier at the weekends when the locals arrived.
