A boundless tropical garden, the secret island of Huahine is a natural sanctuary with many archaeological wonders and other landmarks of its rich Polynesian culture and history. Set on a white sand beach, the Hotel Maitai Lapita Village is composed of thirty bungalows, half of them set around a natural spring pond covered with water lilies. The restaurant, bar and pool face the lagoon and a magnificent white sand beach that borders the crystal clear lagoon. The sunsets here are spectacular and offer a panoramic view of the three other Leeward Islands: Raiatea, Tahaa and Bora-Bora. Conveniently located at the entrance of Fare, the island's main village, The Maitai Lapita Village is emblematic of the mix of nature and culture that is unique to the enchanting island of Huahine. Here you will discover luxuriant vegetation, private bays and inlets, heavenly motus, but also a rich cultural and historical heritage. This charming hotel village naturally blends into its environment as it combines local traditional materials and modern recycled ones. The "Omai" restaurant offers delectable dishes for all tastes using many local fruits and vegetables and of course fresh fish. The hotel's architecture draws inspiration from the great sailing canoes of the islands ancestors, the Lapita people, and the saga of their migration through the Pacific Islands. Archaeological excavations were undertaken on the very site of the hotel and have contributed greatly to our knowledge of the Lapita people and the way they lived. Many ancient artifacts, some over 1000 years old, were recovered and some are on display in the hotel's own museum gallery, including hooks, domestic tools, ornamental pendants, etc. On the island of Huahine, also called "memory island," many monuments from the pre-European era can easily be visited: open air temples (marae), ancient lake dwelling villages, a great attraction to do with a tour guide. These well preserved sites are among the largest in French Polynesia.
Maitai Lapita Village has a friendly staff, nice spacious bungalows, close proximity to airport and main town, and a nice beach and pool onsite. It’s a quiet resort if that is what you’re going for. Our family of four including two children 11 and 7 enjoyed our stay. The restaurant breakfast was sufficient to fill you up for the morning and was quick and easy. For dinner, however, we spent two full hours there. The food was good, but it just took too long. For dinner the next night we went to the food truck across the street, a five minute walk. Portions very large here, consider splitting! Other things to mention: it’s an eco-friendly resort which we appreciated, but it does mean the air conditioning doesn’t run while you’re not there so it was a little warm when you get back for the day, but it cools off relatively quickly. Ice maker was reliable. Bathroom doors are glass so a little difficult to get privacy, but not big deal.

All of our bungalows had been traditionally built according to our local custom. To which we have added all the necessities to provide modern comfort. One thing that makes Pension Tupuna stand out from our competitors is the decorative beauty of our bungalows. Every single piece was crafted from local products and handicrafts: seashells, bamboo, coral, local wood, banana leaves, etc. All of our bungalows offer a bathroom with shower and hot water, electricity, comfortable beds with mosquito nets, and wooden furniture. And, most importantly, a beautiful shaded and furnished patio to allow you to take in the view of the lagoon or the garden while drinking your favorite cocktail.Bungalow are situated in the middle of a tropical garden consisted of several hundreds of flowers of any varieties and of about fifty species of fruit trees. The offered breakfasts consist of coffee, tea or chocolate, bread coconut, baguette, butter, jam house and a beautiful assortment of seasonal fruits. The proposed meals at the Pension Tupuna are also particularly appreciated, they consist mainly of fruits and vegetables of our harvest as well as exceptional products of the sea the fishermen of Huahine of which treat us.
I spent 2 weeks in French Polynesia and visited 6 islands. My stay at Pension Tupuna was THE highlight of my trip. Traveling solo, I felt safe and very well taken care of. Loretta is a fabulous host! It was delightful to walk and frolic in the water with Cali and Tic (friendly dogs) and to be in such a tranquil setting. My soul is thankful for my stay here.

Nul. Passez votre chemin. Hôte qui vous propose des activités hors de prix. Meme le verre d eau sera payant. Plage impraticable en bout de piste aéroport. Photos mensongeres. Une ile magnifique. Louez un vehicule et visiter.

Could this place use an update and some TLC? You bet, but it’s a huge bargain if you don’t require 5 star opulence. The setting is gorgeous, the rooms (overwater bungalow in our case) enormous and you have everything you need. Snorkeling off the huge deck is good, although not spectacular. Kayaks are free to explore the lagoon. Food is adequate if a bit pricey. Wifi outside the lobby is admittedly weak. Free boat service takes you back and forth to town (Fare) that has food and supplies. Additional charge for airport transfer. Be sure to get bottled water at the store on the way in - only one bottle provided per stay. A/C is good. Fridge and hot pot in room. Everything is a bit worn and dated but generally functional. Staff is helpful and kind. Fins available free but snorkels are not during Covid. You may prefer an opulent full-service over-water resort but it will cost you 5 times this place.

We wanted to experience one of the pension of Polynesia but in the reality this was more like a small hotel. Service was not really the best and food services were really poor quality. Good things were that you can rent a car from the place and this was only place which offered us necklace on the day of departure (as on Polynesian tradition you will be offered a seashell necklace during farewell). During our first night we also had quite big storm which didn't really help us to sleep in the "bungalow" as coconuts were falling on our roof. Some of the workers were really nice and they tried to help to maintain the level of the service. One of the best thing on this spot is that you can see the sunset and humpback whales from the beach. So many times we and many others sit on the chairs at the evening, enjoying a drink and watching sun getting down and humpbacks going up and down.

My husband and I chose Huahine to spend the bulk of our time in French Polynesia, and after a previously booked pension notified us that they would be experiencing construction, we switched to Ariitere. That was the best decision we could have made here. The pension is super responsive to all emails and when we finally landed at the airport, Manola & Vete'a met us. The transfer is extra, but we had arrived late and they offered to drive us into to town and arrange a free ride back to the pension after we ate. Throughout our stay, they were attentive, friendly, and genuinely nice to be around. On our last night, which happened to be Friday, we went out to the yacht club with Vete'a and had a lot of fun dancing after dinner. We stayed in a bungalow, which was great for our needs. We had a kitchen with a large refrigerator, stove, sink, coffee maker, microwave, dishes, a large table and screened in porch across from the pool. The main room had a beds and two tables that we used for our stuff and one bed for sleeping. There was a bathroom within the unit with a shower. We had a fan, which was fine since it wasn't that hot. The bed had a mosquito net, but we used mosquito coils to keep the bugs down. Overall it was a great stay and we always felt attended to. One of the best things was that they were able to arrange a discounted tour (about $20 off per person) of the Huahine lagoon with Huahine Nautique. They also arranged a rental car for two days and we could have done more. The city beach and downtown Fare is 10 minutes walk and there is a small snorkeling beach about 5 minutes away, in addition to the pool just steps from our door. It was truly sad to leave, but we had a great time and would certainly return here again. It was one of the best vacations we've had and very relaxing. Highly recommended!

You need a car to explore the island and the best way to to get a accommodation & car combo. We got a pick up from the airport (included) and were offered a small car, when we raised our eyebrows at the number of seats, we are 5, they let us use the much bigger pickup. Quite old with a bit of a knock from the suspension and the steering became tough until they topped up the fluid but it was more than suitable for exploring. It is about 10 minutes into town by car and there are plenty of snack vans there for dinner, or you can order in. The house (semi) was large and kitchen well stocked to cook. Big TV and sofa, plus WiFi worked inside. Bedrooms upstairs were sparse but did have a bed. Well sealed on all windows with insect mesh and we lit some mossie coils at doors and had no problem. The small swimming pool is great, kids loved it and nice to cool off in. Some tiles are protruding a bit but no-one cut themselves, probably best to be careful. Good value for Polynesia.
