The Feathers is a traditional inn on the bustling market square in Helmsley. It has 25 ensuite bedrooms, 1 bars and a versatile function room which can seat up to 200 guests. Helmsley has charming shops and tearooms and is surrounded by the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It is situated at the start of the Cleveland Way walk. The area is full of romantic ruins, stately homes, magical gardens and is ideal for walking, cycling, golf, riding and a range of country sports. For families and holiday makers we are within half an hour of the delightful seaside resorts along the North East coast.
The Feathers is ideally located in Helmsley, right on the main square, and has its own car park. Rooms are quite small, but not unsurprising given the age of the building. Our room had all the amenities one expects these days including capsule coffee machine. The negatives to the room were, for me, the pillows, which I found to be hard and uncomfortable leading to a poor night’s sleep. Additionally, there was an occasional drop in water pressure when showering. Didn’t last long but bit worrying when you have a soapy head! The pluses were undoubtedly the staff who were extremely friendly and helpful, real quality. Breakfast was very good with a nice choice of hot foods. We dined in the restaurant one evening and enjoyed the meal too. Would I stay again? Yes, but might bring my own pillow!

Our 3rd yha stay and this was just as good as the others. We prefer yha to premier inn/hotel style stays - more roomy, self catering kitchen available and just more ‘friendly’ Lovely staff, clean facilities, looking forward to booking again ?

Sarah was totally friendly and helpful throughout the booking and welcoming during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Her breakfasts are delicious, with local bacon and sausages and super home-made jams (we bought a jar of crab apple jelly to take home with us, and it is brilliant). Will come again Sarah

We stayed at Stilworth house on a recent trip to Helmsley for our Wedding Anniversary. Carol is welcoming and very accommodating and does a brilliant choice of breakfast, including smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. She even organised flowers for our wedding anniversary when contacted by our daughter and went out of her way to do this. The beds are comfortable and the bedding crisp and white. Our room was very clean. Although in the centre of town it was very quiet and peaceful and there was even a small car park at the back, which is an added bonus! If you're looking for somewhere that is friendly, in a great location, clean and comfortable with a good breakfast then look no further.

Carlton Lodge is one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed at. Harry and Lisa keep the rooms and facilities in immaculate condition and offer a friendly welcoming stay. The food is home made and/or locally sourced and is plentiful. They offer extras in the dining room so top ups of organic teas and coffees for the rooms and fresh milk with alternatives to cows milk as well. Harry and Lisa offer an amazing range of information on walks, hiking routes, drives and runs & cycles for all levels and have such a depth of knowledge of the area which they are always happy to share. The B&B is centrally placed in Helmsley so all of the places to visit, shops and places to eat are just a short walk away. We felt so welcome. We’ll definitely be back.
