Reviewed By michelebarry2We had a last minute trip and literally just picked a hotel along the Interstate our of convenience and price (rather than reading reviews like we usually do). We had never stayed at a Microtel before but gave it a try and was very satisfied. There was a gentleman by the name of Jerry behind the counter when we arrived. He was so personable and efficient! Made our check-in after a long day of driving that much easier. The room was clean and modern and the mattress and bed and linens super comfortable. The breakfast did not have many options but I suspect that is a rollover from pandemic days. Certainly still appreciated a room and breakfast for less than $100 after taxes.

Reviewed By U145UEkimhThe room was hard to get to as it had snowed and walks weren't maintained. We had trouble opening the door, which never appeared to have been locked. The carpet was in need of replacing, along with the desk chair that was peeling and missing a wheel. Luckily we didn't try sitting in it. The bathroom was horrendous. The toilet was either filthy or stained, the only help for it was replacing. There was no extra toilet paper in the room. The shower handle was missing and drain plug removed. After using the toilet, it did not flush properly. I'm not sure about the breakfast as we didn't try it. The sheets were clean, but towels were in need of replacing.

Front desk clerk did not tell us about upgrades
Reviewed By Christy118We checked in around 5:00 p.m. and went straight to our room. When we walked in, there was a whirlpool tub in the corner, much to our surprise. We left and went to dinner and came back and put a few things in the refrigerator only to find there was soda left in there. On top of the counter was a popcorn packet next to the microwave. We left all those things there as it appeared no one had cleaned the room very well, which was upsetting due to COVID-19. I definitely did not sleep well thinking that the room had not been thoroughly cleaned. We were staying for 2 nights. When we checked out , the lady at the front desk asked how we liked our upgrade? We told her we had no idea there was an upgrade and I was wondering the whole time how much they were going to charge us for the whirlpool room. She said, no, I upgraded you myself. Didn't the check-in person tell you. We replied that he had not. My husband then asked about the soda and popcorn and sure enough, that had been left there for our use too. We did not use either of them as we had no idea they were for us. I just wish the desk clerk would have told us when we checked in. It would not have been such a worrysome 2 nights.

I feel like that would be tempting fate. I kept expecting to see Bob from Twin Peaks standing over me with a knife.

Wifi actually works, unlike Days Inn. and the hotel and grounds are clean unike so many hotels where trash is everywhere in the parking lot. CLEAN/ AFFORDABLE/ FRIENDLY STAFF.

The Southgate Hotel is locally owned. The Hotel has been extensively renovated and completely updated. Besides our comfortable rooms, we also offer meeting & banquet rooms,(which has an open door policy to caterer's), a lounge, exercise room, and an outdoor pool. We also have a nice covered patio with gas grills, table and chairs.
I would only stay here if I had no other choice

As far as I could tell he wasn't watching Captain Kangaroo It had a bar but it was closed. It was summer and the bed still had a winter blanket on it, almost like it hadn't been used in months. The a/c leaked so the floor was wet by it. Plus I could swear my room got hotter as it ran The shower didn't have any complimentary shampoo The property was all together outdated
