Through a unique 16th-century Portuguese colonial era vibe, Amaris Hotel Gorontalo is established within one of the oldest towns in Sulawesi that gives the traveler a sense of time-traveling while still reflecting the essence of the modern-day culture in Gorontalo. Situated within the center for Islamic learning in eastern Indonesia, the hotel provides a sense of comfort that guarantees its guests a relaxing overnight experience without worrying to pay more.
I've stayed here for 5D4N on 23 to 27 Nov. Overall, its unpleasant experience during my stay. My goal is that management able to do conduct some improvement based on my review here, since Amaris name still under Santika big group First is that the water smells very bad like sewage water, and the color is brown on the toilette. I thought is only for the flush toilette water, but it is also for the shower and on the wastafel. I don't know it is the water filtration system on the hotel not working properly or all the water of this area is a brackish water. But when I visited nearest mall, they have fresh water and not smell at all. With that bad water, I was forced to brush my teeth with drinking mineral water bottle. Please fix your water’s quality The Housekeeping team is also very un-professional here. My room is not cleaned up yet when I return back to the hotel at 3.30 pm, even I’ve already ask to the receptionist in morning when I left the hotel for my diving activities (fyi that room hanging sign “do not disturb, clean up” is not provided in my room). And it is not only happen once or twice, I remember my whole stay here that I must ask request repeatedly to clean up my room at the afternoon when back from diving. While every morning I stated clearly that I need my room to be cleaned up before 2 p.m. It was so frustrating that they can’t accommodate simple request like that. As a diver, after my diving activity I required to take a shower immediately when arrived at the hotel, cleaning up myself, my diving computer and camera must be soaked into fresh water to prevent corrosion. Then I must wait again around 20 minutes when realized that the hotel didn’t made up my room when arrived back. Geezz… Due to pandemic situation, the hotel’s staff already informed me that restaurant is closed for breakfast, and breakfast will deliver to each room every morning. Earliest delivery can be provided at 6.00 a.m., so I ask to be delivered at 6.30 a.m. each morning to my room. And guess what, it always late to 6.50 or even 7 am, while I must leave the hotel and go for diving at 7 sharp. I must called reception repeatedly every morning to ask my breakfast not to be late, bit it came always late. And the worst of all, that on my last day stay here, it happen that restaurant is re-opening for breakfast. I didn’t get any information at all and when waited till 7.30 I called reception and they just informer me. What a shame. i know its a budget hotel class, but those 3 complaints are very basic requirement of every accommodation; water, housekeeping and meals. If the hotel failed to provide that, what do you offers then? To be fair also, the pros about this hotel is strategic location, and I was helped by their accounting team, I made mistake when book this hotel via online booking app. It should be 23-27 Nov, but I mistakenly booked for 22-26 Nov. They solved it well without any penalty fees, Special thanks to accounting team.

We invite you to stay in our home during your time in gorontalo. We are the family Gobel, Harry, Mimin, Aryan and Abraham. We offer you a sample of genuine indonesian hospitality, staying with us and our extended family. Our home is basic and simple, please do not expect luxury. This is the way we live. Your room rate will include breakfast of toast, omelette, jam, tea and coffee. Towels are provided. We have both a western an indonesian toilets. A shower and indonesian bathroom. There is a cold water for washing and electric sockets for your 24 hours use. Some rooms have a wall fan. Some are airconditioned, Wifi is free. We also provided a laundry service at reasonable rates. Harry is a registered tourism guide and he can offer advice and assistance for your holiday plans. We can arrange Ferry tickets & Cabin to and from Togians ,airport transfers, harbour transfers and other driving requests.
If you come here, keep in mind that this is an extended family compound, and that you'll be sharing space with the family and its menagerie of animals. In most ways, this is a positive, and Mimin will go the extra mile to be inclusive. Cleanliness is a bit of an issue. We stayed a week, and the kitchen area early in the mornings is carpeted in the debris of the previous day, which of course attracts flies. Other than this, the room was spotless, the mattress very comfortable, the fan alone perfectly adequate for nighttime cooling - blanket for sure needed! The bathroom is spacious (mirror ought to be cleaned, though), the shower is cold water yet plenty warm enough by late afternoon. The (western) toilet is not set up to flush, which must be done using a scoop. Breakfast: a choice among nasi goreng, nasi kuning, or toast/egg. Buy your own fruit and place it in the fridge, though. Wifi was good and reliable. We came to dive with Miguel's. The property is 11+ km from Miguel's (which is in the Pabean area of town), but Pak Irfan (a neighbor of Mimin's) is happy to do the shuttle, and is reliable. He'll do airport pickup too - but his car is quite small, so if you arrive with a mountain of luggage (or more than 2 people), this might pose a problem. WA him at 0821-8778-9309. The nearby national park is evidently closed to visitors at the moment, for Covid reasons. This makes slim pickings indeed for things to do, other than diving. Gorontalo town doesn't have much to offer, though now with modernity sweeping through, it has a mall with JCo and its excellent frozen yoghurt. Walking from Mimin's to Limboto lake will fill a couple of hours of idle time, but there's nothing to see there except people fishing. We didn't go to the ruins of the Portuguese fort - shrug, why bother? One positive of Gorontalo is that the people are very friendly.

Rooms at Eljie Hotel provide air conditioning, and guests can stay connected with free wifi. In addition, while staying at Eljie Hotel guests have access to a 24 hour front desk, a concierge, and room service. You can also enjoy an on-site restaurant. While staying in Gorontalo, you can check out a popular Chinese restaurant like Greenade Cafe & Resto, which is serving up some great dishes. There is no shortage of things to do in the area: explore popular ancient ruins such as Otanaha Fortress. Eljie Hotel is sure to make your visit to Gorontalo one worth remembering.
We booked one night at Eljie hotel after a recommendation from a friend. We got a great deal on Agoda, with a VIP Room priced at IDR228,000. For those coming from the airport, we were told there is no public transport to the city and the only choice is a taxi. Grab and GO-JEK is not yet available in Gorontalo. After negotiating hard with the taxi drivers, and also talking with a tourist who was departing from the airport, we found that there is a standard price of around IDR150,000 to the city. We later heard that somebody got a price of IDR120,000 after walking out of the airport. Arriving at Eljie, we realized it is a sharia hotel, and the signs in the room say the hotel does not accept unmarried couples and requests guests not to wear shorts. But the unmarried couple requirement is not uncommon in Indonesia and I saw people wearing shorts inside, so it is not really that strict. The hotel allowed us to check in when we arrived at 9am, but the receptionist on the desk at the time was not experienced as he didn’t know how to handle our booking through agoda, did not request payment (we booked for payment on arrival) and when I asked about renting a motorbike or the menu for the hotel's restaurant, he told me to ask another receptionist later. We later found that it is not possible to rent a motorbike from the hotel and there is a menu in the room. Not all staff speak English but they are mostly willing to help and friendly. Breakfast was yellow rice, bakwan (fried snack), green vegetables, watermelon and tea and coffee. Laundry at the hotel is a little expensive as they charge per piece, so the receptionist advised to walk down the road to find a laundry place. If you turn left as you leave the hotel and walk for ten minutes, there is a laundry place that charges by the kilo. We paid IDR40,000 for 4.1kg for the next day service and the staff were very helpful. The VIP room is like a throwback to the 1980s, but it was spacious and clean. The bed is a good size and there is a comfortable sofa area. There is also a large tv but without English channels, and tea, coffee and mineral water is provided in the room. There is also a water cooler in the dining area on the ground floor if you need to top up. The bathroom was basic but also clean. Attached to the hotel is a tour desk. The staff don’t speak english but they have their services translated into English in a small catalogue. We didn’t book a tour, but from what we saw the prices are very reasonable. For example, the whale shark tour which includes transport, a glass bottom boat tour, swim with whale shark including snorkel equipment and prawn food, trip to a cave and finally to a gift shop was IDR700,000. However, while we were there we were told it was not the season to see the whale sharks so unfortunately we did not go. Directly in front of the hotel is a small shack selling standard Indonesian food. We ordered roti bakar and fries which was tasty and good value, and the women working there were very friendly. Opposite the hotel is a family karaoke place, and around the corner there is a place called basic food where we had dinner. The food there was also standard Indonesian fare but the taste was excellent and the prices were low. We paid IDR30,000 for noodles, chicken and rice and two iced teas. The staff there were also very friendly. Overall we were quite happy, but then in the evening we got a phone call from a senior manager telling us we had not paid yet, with a tone as if we were avoiding payment. We were not asked to pay when checking in and I had spoken with a number of staff throughout the day, and at no point were we requested to pay. What’s more, on the phone we were told the price for the room was IDR440,000, which is the list price for the room. But we had booked using agoda with the price advertised as IDR228,000. After retrieving my booking confirmation, I went the receptionist who told me if I wanted the agoda price I would have to move rooms. But I said no, because we had booked the vip room. The hotel could not retrieve their own records on my booking to check the price. After both of us repeated this point a number of times which was very frustrating, the manager called the owner. After checking my confirmation properly the owner said I should pay the price I booked - IDR228,000. The senior manager then acted as if she was doing me a favor, and even worse did not apologize. She then said she hadn’t seen my ID, to which I pointed out the receptionist had made a copy in the morning. In sum, the rooms were dated but clean and spacious, the location is strategic to nearby amenities and our stay was pleasant and good value for the price we paid. However, the payment mix up was very frustrating, at the very least the manager should have apologized for their error instead of making us feel like criminals. Be sure to print out your confirmation if you book through agoda and tell the staff you want to pay when you arrive.

I booked this hotel after staying at the New Melati hotel and wanted somewhere better. I have been very pleased with my stay here. The hotel is clean and quite well maintained, with good WiFi, very effective AC and hot water in the rooms. I stayed in a Superior room - the size of the room is generous and the fridge has been very handy. The bed and bedding are very comfortable and the room is tidied and cleaned every day. There is a good breakfast buffet and the bubur ayam is absolutely delicious, as is the fried rice! The staff have all been very helpful and friendly too. The only downside I have thought of is that the AC resets to 18C every time I leave the room and this is far too cold - perhaps it can be made warmer as standard? If I return to Gorontalo, I would happily stay here again.

Starting to get a little tired. We stayed in the 'old wing' (the lower of the two blocks) and the rooms need an update/modernisation. One of only a few 'top end' hotels in Gorontalo and so commands a price beyond its value. Look at the more recently built options.

We had a great stay at Jambura Inn. The location is good, the rooms were clean and the girl behind the desk was so helpful and kind! She was probably the most hospitable person we've encountered on our trip through Sulawesi. We would definitely recommend you staying here!

New Melati Hotel Gorontalo is located at the centre of Gorontalo City, the new developing province in North Sulawesi. It is a 50 minutes drive from Djalaludin Airport and within walking distance to shopping malls, restaurants, banks and government offices. Tourist information, as well as trips to local tourism destinations can easily be arranged from the Hotel, including internal flights and local diving packages, dive courses, and for those interested in discovering the world of diving (Discovering Scuba Diving).
I booked this hotel as it was suggested by the dive shop I used during my stay and the photos looked good. I booked the deluxe room but was disappointed when I got to my room, especially when compared to the front of the hotel. I imagine the pandemic hasn't helped, and perhaps the place was once a good option, but my deluxe room was basic and very tired looking - especially the bathroom. When I compare it to homestays in Bali for about the same price, this definitely was not what I had expected. The breakfast was very poor - a sandwich with lots of margarine and chocolate sprinkles for the filling, accompanied by some fruit, a few bits of tomato and some sliced cucumber. To be clear, I wasn't expecting a continental breakfast or anything fancy but it would have been good to be given an option such as eggs and toast. During the night, the lamps in the corridors outside the rooms are left on and there is no option for guests to turn them off themselves. The curtains do not block this light out so, at 23.45, I eventually went to speak to someone about turning the lights off. I was told that they do not get turned off until 5am as it would be too dark otherwise(!). However, the light directly outside my room was turned off enabling me to get some sleep at last. The grounds across from the hotel had music playing in the evening which could be heard in the hotel so I ended up putting my headphones on to try to block it out. I understand this is common in Indonesia, and not the fault of the hotel, but it's something to consider if you will have down time in the hotel in the afternoon. Thankfully the hotel allowed me to check out the following morning despite me having asked to stay a week.
