10 hotels in Funen and Islands: Best hotel deals for 2023

August 8, 2022 Frederic Celentano

This region is home to 700 miles of coastline and 90 islands, including Fyn, the third largest island in Denmark. Also known as "Funen," this attractive island of thatched farmhouses, myriad beaches, forests, beaches and grassland offers gorgeous Kattegat and Baltic views. The most popular spot is quirky Odense, birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, but don't miss Ladby's Viking ship grave, where the remains of a 72-foot longship, burial site of a 10th-century Viking chieftain, have been excavated.

Hotel Odeon

A jewel in the heart of Odense Hotel Odeon is an oasis in the heart of the vibrant centre of the Hans Christian Andersen neighbourhood, close to shopping, attractions, restaurants and nightlife – and just a stone’s throw from the newly opened, congress and cultural centre, ODEON. We are combining first class international standards with the best of Funen, inviting relaxation and leisurely contemplation, in a warm and calm ambience. Odense is developing rapidly, and the area around the hotel is being transformed into a new and modern neighborhood. We hope you will keep in mind that noise from the surrounding buildings may occur.

Exceptional hotel. Staff are wonderful and rooms are beautiful. Great location.

This is a fantastic hotel and dare I say the only hotel you should stay at while in Odense. There are not a lot of nice options that are close to the train station. The train station is about a 10 minute walk with heavy luggage. I absolutely loved this hotel. The customer service is stellar. I made contact with the hotel several times via email before arriving and they always responded courteously and promptly. I wanted a room upgrade but the hotel was full and so the lady who checked me in told me I would get the largest double room they had. I was expecting quite a small room but I was so pleased. My room was so big it was unbelievable. I was not able to get the name of the lady who dealt with me on Friday 3rd June when I arrived but she was so nice. She had black glasses and dark brown hair and she was tall and slim. She was so lovely and patient and answered all my questions and helped me put my luggage in the storage when I checked in early. She gave me all the necessary instructions and was an absolute delight. I wish all hotel staff was like her. I hope hotel management knows who she is when they read this! When I came back at night to check in, unfortunately there was someone new and no one else and she struggled a little with the systems but in the end she worked it out. It would be good if the staff can place someone else more experienced on duty with her till she learns the ropes. However she was a nice girl and she took all my room requests for extra towels and shower gel and delivered them to my room as requested when she had a free moment. I feel the hotel needs more staff. That is my only suggestion. Front desk staff should not need to deal with housekeeping as well. The room was modern and new and so lovely. The bed was comfortable and I slept like a baby. I didn't want to leave the hotel. Housekeeping placed a bag of towels and toiletries in front of my door when my do not disturb sign was there. That was a first for any hotel I have stayed at. The hotel is in a great quiet location on the outer rim of the centre but very close in any case. You are 5 mins from the Hans Christian Museum. I'd say is in the middle of the centre and station. There's two supermarkets Co-op and Metro 2 mins away on each corner. If I ever come back to Odense, no doubt I'll be staying here. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Tornoes Hotel

Tornoes Hotel is one of the few properties in Kerteminde where the owners have been known for the last 300 years. In the 17th century it was a grocery store. In 1862 Wentzel Tornoe bought the property and in 1865 he was granted citizenship. Tornoes Hotel is a reality. On October 1, 1986, Charlotte Frandsen and Morten Birkerod take over the Tornoes Hotel. Over the years, the hotel has been renovated to make it look like a beautifully maintained old hotel with a restaurant, 59 rooms, banqueting rooms and several meeting rooms. As the only hotel in Denmark, Tornoes Hotel has its own brewery "Kerteminde Bryghus".

Both in the restaurant, which was more a 3-4 star experience, and in the reception.

Gl. Brydegaard

Gl. Brydegaard is a hotel, a restaurant and a conference facility. The farm was originally built in 1796 and for many many years it was an ordinary Danish farm with cultivated fields. In about 1940 the farm was turned into a guesthouse for wealthy people from Copenhagen, who came here by train to stay for the summer. In 1980 the old builings burned to the grown only leaving the old pigsty intact. The farm was rebuilt and in 2004 Gl. Brydegaards current owner, Connie, bought the place. The area around Gl. Brydegaard is very suited for bikeriding and walking, and especially the peninsula Helnæs is renowed for being a wonderful area for trout fishing. Complete rip off

Don’t waste your money here. They charge nearly €400/night even though, in their own words, they “haven’t managed to train our new staff well enough”. That meant no dinner after waiting for 1.5 hours and our little boy went to bed on an empty stomach. At breakfast, any basic request (can we have some water please? Some jam or honey please?) couldn’t be fulfilled. The bedrooms didn’t help - they have nets as curtains so there’s no way of keeping out the light, and no fans available in peak summer. Their “compensation” at checkout was to not charge for dinner we never got! A complete joke. Makes Fawlty Towers look good.

Not a 4 star hotel , not good value for prize

Reviewed By Mudenilla

Definitely not a 4 starts hotel, you can hear everything in the other rooms. No minimum service, the breakfast was a mess. The bathroom was very dirty and had black mold. Not acceptable for the prize. I bet there are better hotels on Odense that are cheaper.
