Day 1 of 2 and I am loving everything about this place. The place is nicely cool despite the outside temperature being 31℃. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food was perfect as advertised… can’t wait for Day 2?. Hopefully to come back next time.

Tikondane Community Centre is 21 years old. The idea was to teach literacy to villagers, but with HIV&AIDS rampant, it turned out that jobs were needed, especially for women. There are any number of educational activities now as well as income-generating attempts. The people at Tiko are especially nice and hospitable and welcome any visitor to see what they are doing as well as into their house - which will most likely shock you in its bareness. The warmth, however, is obvious, but also the fact that the Chewa culture is very very different. We invite our guests to a tour to a village, where they can observe the initiation ceremonies. Especially the one for the men, the gule wamkulu, big dance, (recommended by UNESCO for its heritage value) is ever so impressive, as the dancers are believed to be no longer human, but ghosts, with magic powers. To see - and feel - them dance in the village, to the big low drums is an experience you'll never forget.
We stayed for a week at Tikondane Community Centre and volunteered. To be honest, we received so much more than we gave. We learned so much about Katete and Zambia, the running of an NGO, permaculture activities and how to fight poverty. The people there were incredible. Don't hesitate to go there if you want a true sense of community and an authentic experience. We will come back!

This is a very nice average hotel in Chipata. The location is great not too far from the main town but also less noise. We stayed at Nyamfinzi last year in December for our honeymoon. The staff were friendly and rooms very neat.

Msandile River Lodge was more than pleasant from start to end. The responsiveness of the booking office, the courtesy of the frontline staff, the neat and clean appealmof the accommodations and the expert sfari giode who took care of us are ut a few of the joys of being a guest here. We were able to findnour way to the lodge easily with both text and pictorial guides. The syaff are friendly without being overbearing and all seem genuinely happy to host you. The position of the camp ensures you're entertained by wildlife encounters both in camp and also in the gane park. Our guide Ropbert Phiri was especially hard working and put hos experience on display as he helped us find and view game mych to our hearts content. We were able to catch a leopard on a prowl and another ona fresh kill amongst many other sightings because of Robert's tracking skills. Our chalets were well adorned without losing the "safari feel". Plenty hot and cold water was agreat joy at the end of each day and the rest of the of the premises were absolutely clean and neat. The food was good and each meal was welcome. My partner and I are foodies and we tend to prefer a richer food experience than was on offer but we cannot say the food was bad by any measure. We'd highly recommend a stay at Msandile, it's great value for money without being cheap. I'd say the experience is definitely much better than advertised and the staff arw ahuge part of that great experience. Happy yo go back soon! ?

Pelican Lagoon Bushcamp is a tented lodge on the shore of a idyllic lagoon. Perfect for those who like glamping. We have six tented chalets, including four family tents, and a beautiful wooden dining deck under a big ebony tree. We also have a splash pool. Each chalet has an en suite bathroom, mosquito nets, and a spacious veranda. Our bushcamp is an ideal spot to while away an afternoon watching wildlife on the lagoon. You can opt for full board or you can self cater and use our well equipped kitchen. We also have a camp site equipped with braai, wash stand, and power points. The camp is located just 500 m from the main entrance to South Luangwa National Park, one of the premier wildlife viewing locations in Africa. We can arrange game viewing activities at competitive prices.
My husband and I found this great, comfortable and reasonably priced bush camp for our safari in South Luangwa. It's conveniently located near the town, but tucked away next to a beautiful lagoon. Although there was not much water, due to it being dry season, there were plenty of wild animals grazing just in front of the camp. The staff was excellent and friendly, the tented chalets were cozy with excellent views of the lagoon area, and our safari guide was wonderful. If you want to have a great experience in South Luangwa for a great price, go to Pelican Lagoon Bushcamp!

We stayed 4 nights at Malama Umoyo and we liked this place a lot. The location of this camp is very nice on a bend of the river with a “house pod” of hippos always at hand. Animals are easily seen drinking at the river’s edge from the relaxing viewpoint between the 2 cottages. The cottages are well laid out with everything you may need: hot shower, lights, mosquito screens, terrace with tables, chairs and couch. We used the kitchen which was very convenient and had everything we needed to prepare our meals. Staff was attentive, friendly and insisted on doing our dishes. Our camper had starter motor problems and the owner Menno was extremely helpful in communicating with the rental company and getting our vehicle out of the bush. He could not have been more accommodating. Unfortunately we were only able to do 1 gamedrive in the area because of our vehicle breakdown, but it was apparent to us that this area sees VERY few tourists and does have a high density of wildlife. If you would like to experience a true wildlife safari away from the crowds, this is the place for you! Definitely would recommend Malama Umoyo for visits to South Luangwa NP.
