Where can you find breathtaking waterfalls, glowing natural pools, and mind-boggling rock formations? Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. Located in the center of Brazil, the park is known for its trails (Sete Quedas, dos Saltos, dos Cânions, and da Seriema) where visitors can walk among nature while taking in toucans, armadillos, and other native wildlife. Framed by sun-dappled trees and pooling deep emerald water, the roaring Prata and Santa Bárbara falls are other destinations that can’t be missed.

Well, that is a long one. I’ve been to this hotel a couple of times. The looks are good and the hotel is fully decorated in a medieval stile. Swords, tapestry, carved woodwork and all. The rooms are set in blocks of four units and noise is definitely an issue. There is no sound proofing and the next door sounds can absolutely be heard from your unit. If the hotel is empty, that’s ok; otherwise, be prepared to wake up early. Despite being at a highway, the sound of trucks and vehicles is hardly heard. The rooms are nice, clean and comfy, but deserve some improvement. The doors are creeky and the tv is usually bumped upon since it is set at shoulder hight. There is a piece of furniture where you can arrange your clothes if you’re staying longer. No coat hangers though. The water for the shower is sun-heated and it takes a bit to come out hot, causing a lot of waste of water (especially in the rainy season). Too bad! Room keys are to be left at the front desk when you leave and the gates close at 10pm for security reasons. A sticker is stuck at the front windshield of your car to identify you as a hotel guest. If you return to the hotel after that time, the doorkeeper will open the gates to you and deliver your room key. The staff has always been friendly, polite and will always help you with indication of places to go and where to go around the small town. There is a national park with plenty of waterfalls, trails and sites to visit and enjoy. Renting a car to come here is advisable since the attractions are usually far from downtown. The hotel is somewhat accessible for people with disabilities and parking is quite close to each unit (usually at the front door of each room or at a small walking distance). Despite the noise that may come from careless and disrespectful neighbor guests, I do recommend the hotel. Breakfast is included and it is really tasty.

Staying in Sao Jorge is a good option when visiting Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and Vale da Lua as this is a charming village. We liked our stay at Pousada Mundo Dha Lua. If you do not mind walking up some stairs, you should request an upstairs room. Comfort is basic but sufficient: shower with hot water, air con, mini bar, free wi-fi. We would have liked to get a hair dryer and more bathroom amenities. Breakfast is good. The front staff is nice and helpful, although they do not speak English.

Located in Alto Paraiso centre, this guesthouse features an indoor pool, wet sauna and a meditation centre with massages. It offers free Wi-Fi, colonial breakfast and a TV room with Sky HDTV. The rooms at Alfa e Omega feature a fan, a TV and a minibar. With a balcony and hammock, all are equipped with a private bathroom.Guests can visit the Cahcoeira Sao Bento and the Cachoeira Almecegas waterfalls, which are both just 8 km away. The Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros is situated 36 km away.
Alfa e Omega is unique. Who knew it was possible to cram every fetishized world spirituality (Buddhism, Hinduism, Mayan, Egyptian etc..) into one little Pousada? Start with some humble rustic bungalows and a quaint breakfast area, add in a lovely garden filled with spiritual-inspired statues running between all of the bungalows and finish it off with a pool and steam room building flourish that is caught somewhere between a tiki holiday and an overwrought homage to Egyptian spirituality (there's a pyramid fountain!) and you have Alfa e Omega. Frankly, I would have given the place a lower review, because of the small bathrooms and stuffy rooms, but the management really cares about their guests and we receive incredibly attentive service. We didn't sleep well the first night because the mattress was unbelievably hard. When we mentioned it (asking for blankets etc.. to put on the bed) they went to the back storage, pulled out another, softer mattress and replaced it for us on the spot. There wasn't much in particular we needed, but the management made it clear they were there to help. Will I stay here again? Probably not - I don't think it's the best value for money and I was.... let's say overcome by the mish-mash of spiritual icons and references. But still recommend - the place is quiet and off the main drag, and if you're looking for somewhere to nourish your Buddhist/Hindu/Zen/Egyptian/Mayan sensibilities, this could be for you. And hey, there's complimentary incense in the room to burn.

I stayed there for a few nights, in a single room with bathroom. The pousada is nice and confortable, 10 minutes walking to the bus station of Alto Paraiso, a small town close to Chapada dos Veadeiros. You have wifi in the room, that is very convenient. The breakfast is very good, with handmade cakes and fruits. The room was very simple, but it was clean and for me that's enough. The staff is nice and helped me a lot to organize my excursion in the park, that turned out to be quite complicated since I was traveling alone without a car. They really made my stay there great. I would definitely go back there if I am around.

I did not have a good impression at first, with the empty swimming pool and rustic bedroom. The infra-structure is old too, there aren't many wall sockets if you want to use the mini fridge and the fan at the same time, while charging your device or using one socket for the insecticide. But in the morning the wild macaws that come to eat really impressed me, along with the dogs and cats that live there that are a sweet treat. I spent 4 nights there and by the last day I felt it was a little paradise. I guess it just took me a little while to settle in and relax... The owner is very nice and helpful and the breakfast is delicious. Beware of the neighbour cocks that will almost certainly wake you up very early. :) The bed had a good solid mattress which helped me have a good sleep.
