The Black Hawk Hotel is a 167 year old independent boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Cedar Falls, steps away from the city's best dining, shopping, and entertainment. We are also located next to the picturesque Cedar River and its 100+ miles of walking and bike trails, and just a 5 minute drive from the UNI Campus. The Black Hawk Hotel is listed on the National Trust of Historic Places, and is the oldest continuously operated hotel west of the Mississippi River (and second oldest in the country!). As of June 2019, The Black Hawk Hotel is now home to Bar Winslow, a Prohibition-inspired craft cocktail bar, and Farm Shed, a farm-to-table brunch cafe, where guests receive a complimentary breakfast with their stay. The historic building offers 28 guest suites outfitted with antique furnishings, while the adjacent Retro Motel offers 15 king rooms with midcentury furnishings and original art. Both facilities are outfitted with the modern conveniences demanded by today's sophisticated travelers at an affordable price point. Our Concierge Services are available around-the-clock for connecting you with the best of Cedar Falls (reservations, tickets, bike tours, etc.), or coordinating tasks to make your stay more enjoyable (dry cleaning, printing services, etc.).

The good - less than $100, fairly quiet, comfortable beds, easy in and out from the highway, very few guests, clean enough, staff was friendly - especially the breakfast attendant. The bad - refrigerator was inoperable (room 208), drywall had rotted away from the top around the window from what appeared to be water damage, the quality of the breakfast was below average, the shower curtain rod was pulling out of the wall in a way that caused the shower curtain sag to the middle and leave large gaps on each side near the walls Summary - for the price I would certainly stay here again. Just don't set your expectations too high

Hotel stay was decent, but restaurant food left a lot to be desired. Asparagus on dish was obviously old, and fried pickles were way to spicy for my taste. At first I was trying to figure out if they had way too much salt or they were spicy. Took coating off, and tasted pickle. It was spicy. I’ve never had fried pickles like that. ?

Terrible reception staff. We waited in line for 20 minutes to check in, which was preceded by fumbling and having trouble checking us in through the computer system. We also waiting in line to buy water, which was a mother 20 minute wait as they were having trouble with another couple. There is no continental breakfast, but you can spend $10+/person in their “restaurant”. Waited $15 to check out while the receptionist was in the back on her cell phone.

This hotel is nothing short of absolutely disgusting. As you walk to the front door the ground is covered in cigarette butts. When you enter you’re hit with a smell of water damaged and moldy drywall. The front desk is a great facade for the rest of the hotel as it is semi nice, and looks to be well kept. On your way to your room you will have to navigate 5 gallon buckets catching drips from the ceiling. Often times garbage is piled up outside of rooms or at the top of staircases. My bed smelt of cologne belonging to the last person to sleep in there letting me know the sheets had not been washed. Don’t expect more than the 2 towels your room comes with, because even calling the hotel on your own phone since the hotel phone won’t work won’t get you any. Your keycard will work about 50% of the time, so be prepared to ask the front desk for a new one. The lights occasionally flicker, and you may return to your room after a long day with your bedsheets gone. Even after you ask the front desk for new sheets no one will come. You will begin to spend time in your car mentally preparing to walk into the hotel to avoid the repulsive thoughts about its cleanliness. The pool is almost completely empty except for some murky water at the deepest point containing a broom. The restaurant is closed. Don’t stay here.

Went to Iowa to visit family and Stayed at the Comfort Suits. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. We spent a week here and it was very pleasant, the room was large and very comfortable. Everything was clean and sanitized, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the room. The room seem fairly quiet as the hotel occupancy seem to vary greatly while we but for the most part our room was quiet. The free breakfast seemed very good and there was plenty to chose from so no complaints there. I would definitely recommend this place and would like to Thank the staff for a pleasant experience.
