This place is supported by a well organized machine that shows at the reception desk in Bidiyah as well as with communication before arrival using WhatsApp. We were handed our a map with approximate location , and our tires were partially deflated (needed to make it through the desert) It is a relatively easy find some 28 km deep in the desert. A 4 WD comes in handy but it is the reach between sand & suspension that counts. After 28 km the safari dunes camp is signposted at your right side. Simple yet elegant and the complex consists of 5 bungalows. This is a very quiet place . Take some time to relax. The hosts are very friendly and forthcoming. They provide you with plenty of food. In the evening there is a BBQ an bonfire. We went out for a walk , ( unfortunately ) collecting a few empty plastic water bottles. If you are lucky you can strike a conversation with a local. The vistas are just great

Oriental Nights Rest House located in wilayat Bidiyah at the junction entrance of wadi bani khalid biside alsharqiya sands known as (Wahiba sands)
Before we booked our hotel stay, we had corresponded months in advance with the Manager/Owner over WhatsApp. He had helped us with precise directions and answered all our queries happily. The day we arrived, they were surprised to find us there. It looked like we might have been the only guests there. But that didn't affect the service one bit. We were greeted by the owner couple who were themselves visiting from Muscat. We were introduced to Mr. Gopal, the cook, who took excellent care of our pure veg Indian food needs. The owner also helped organise 2 drivers for us - one for our excursion to the nearby Wadi Bani Khalid... and the other for the sunrise view at Wahiba Sands. Both the drivers were polite, charged reasonable and felt safe. The hotel itself looked like a vast property, parts of it still getting developed. There's a whole lounge area done up in traditional Omani style, with lowlevel plush seating, coffee table with a thermos of hot coffee, some dates and a water bowl. The outdoors have ample visitor parking, children's play area, a garden with aloes, date trees and some more vegetation. There also seemed to be some kind of outdoor party area for family functions or such. It was nice to come out in the night to gaze at the moon, the stars and what appeared to be a part of the galaxy. The outdoors were also fitted with sensor-lighting which i appreciated. Our room was spacious for 2 people, the bathroom large with a tub. After we came back from Wadi Bani Khalid, we enjoyed a good soak time in the tub :) The food was delicious for all our meals. We were free to choose from the fruits Gopal ji generously offered. He also made awesome espresso and cold coffee for us. We weren't given an itemised bill though, it was a blanket charge of 7 OMR for 2 people. We wish we had a longer stay here. If you are planning to visit Al Asharqiyah Sands and Wadi Bani Khalid like us, this is your place to sleep the night off. For directions - go off the exit 159 on Muscat-Sur highway. We came via Mwasalat Bus and our driver already knew the hotel, so he dropped us precisely there. Another landmark to confirm the location is the Maha Petrol Pump located at exit 159. The hotel is a 2-minute walk from the petrol pump complex.

Safari Desert Camp is a permanent Bedouin style camp which was opened in September 2008. It is located in a remote, quiet desert landscape of the Wahiba Sands, 25km away from Al-Ghabbi, in the city of Bidiyah. Forty challets are widely scattered on the sands, and each are well equipped with authentic carpets, luxury beds and bedding and much more. For our guests' comfort, we use our own 4wd and highly trained camels ensuring complete reliability.
This is a wonderful hotel with full amenities in the desert. My room was a stand alone building with an outdoor shower and toilet that had the most amazing view of stars at night. Best bathroom ever. The food is great and plentiful for both breakfast and dinner. The grounds are clean and well kept. Very lovely location.

The idea of heading deep into the desert to camp under the stars has been given the ultimate upgrade in Oman. As a compliment, Candles and oil lamps will create the perfect romantic "Arabian Desert Nights" gourmet dinner under the star, allows you the experience of an authentic traveling desert caravan where the day's explorations and nights under the stars don't get any better than the Sands Dream desert camp, here you can do many desert activities like Camel riding, desert safari, sand boarding , horse riding ,Visiting Bedune House to explore the Real bedune Life style.
We chose Sands Dream Camp for our stay in Wahiba Sands as it seemed the best value and location for what we wanted. We opted for a return transfer which meant we parked our car at Al Wasil (Al Maha petrol station) and liaised with the camp via Whatsapp for pick up and drop off. The cost was 30 RO (note: this is per car). The drive to camp took 20-25 minutes from the petrol station and included dune bashing and a drive to the top of a dune for sunset at 4:30pm. We loved this and would highly recommend it! It could also potentially save you from getting lost/stuck in the sand if you drive yourself to camp. Plus, dune bashing and sunset drive alone costs 25RO so including a return transfer for an extra 5RO seemed worth it. We arrived in camp and were welcomed with dates, tea, coffee and water. Our bags were taken from the car to our tent by one of the staff. The two staff members in camp were very really helpful and friendly. The tent itself was quite basic with two beds, two chairs and a small table. The bathroom was external; there was a toilet, a sink and an open shower (no hot water). Towels were provided. Neither of us had a full shower as we left it until too late in the day when it got a little colder, and a cold shower was not appealing. For one night, it was fine (taking a shower earlier on in the day when it’s hot may be a better strategy). All in all, if you’re expecting luxury accommodation, you will be disappointed. But you’re in the middle of a desert, there’s no harm in roughing it up a little and enjoying the experience! Food was half board (dinner and breakfast) and it was great! Dinner included rice, meat curry, kebabs, bbq chicken, okra, humous, tabouleh, salad, naan and dessert included fruit, custard and baklava. Breakfast included french toast, mixed fruit pieces, boiled eggs, muffins and croissants. We were also offered omelettes which would’ve been freshly cooked. You won’t go hungry! Tea, coffee, water and dates are provided 24/7. Activities can be booked at the camp. So at camp dinner, we booked 30 mins quad biking for the next morning (cost 12 RO per person). Again, highly recommended - it was so much fun! Extra info: All payments were in cash. Electricity was available 24/7 and included lights in tent and bathroom, and plug sockets. You will have to arrange transfer beforehand but any activities you’d like to book can be done when you arrive at camp. Tips: - Take flip flops. It may be annoying if you’re constantly getting sand in closed shoes. - Nights can get quite cool (depending on the time of year you visit - we visited in December where it got to about 16°C) so take something warm to wear. - A torch may come in handy for when it gets dark. We had a head torch. - Try and arrange accommodation directly with the camp (you can use WhatsApp or email) as this will likely give you the best price. For example, we booked via hotels.com and paid 70RO. If we booked directly with the camp we were being quoted 45RO. Quite a difference; this is my personal experience and may differ for you. I hope you’ve found this review helpful! Enjoy.

We travelled together with our 2,5 year old daughter and had a great time and an amazing experience. The camp is located 30 min away (4x4 required) from the meeting point where you need to deflate the tires. There is a car service there and they ask for 1 OMR/car. The young man who was our guide/front man was super friendly and made sure we had a great time. On the campsite they have a small farm with camels, goats and donkeys which is really nice for the kids. Despite being the only guests (travel during COVID) they stilled offered the full dinner program (bbq with camp fire, fresh breadsticks, buffet,). Highly recommend

Bidiyah Desert Camp is a mixture of traditional Desert camp and hotel, and we also provide day trips camel trips, across wahiba sands
Desert Camp not to far away from the main road (approx. 10 km of that 3 km only sand road). You cannot be lost, signs are alongside the road. Very nice staff at reception desk. Tent was ready earlier. Clean and comfortable, with toilet, shower, refrigerator, climatisation. Car park in front of the tent is possible. Free coffee, tea, fruits, soft drinks during the day. Water tank in tent. Camel ride on request only, bike ride in sands (bikes in the camp available). Very beautiful place. With 4WD car it is safety to drive in desert, not to far from the camp, of course. Breakfast from 8 am. I recommend.

Comparison: our present hotel in the center of Nizwa is half the price and includes breakfast.... This accommodation simply wasn't ready for opening. Restaurant wasn't open yet, no breakfast option, final part of the road leading up to the parking spaces didn't have any tarmac, so we damaged our car twice when passing the threshold to the parking spaces; difference in height was too big. WiFi access limited to 10pm until 7am, so no standard wifi in the rooms. There were at least 10 flies in the room when we entered, which is annoying as hell and nasty. Poor flooring in the bathroom turned the bathroom into a wadi in seconds. No shower curtain. Bottomline: heavily overpriced! Go elsewhere!
