This historical building was first mentioned in official records in 1456. Joseph Victor von Scheffel, author of the "trumpet player of Säckingen" was a regular visitor who loved to spend his free time there. A suprisingly nice experience
Reviewed By shadz1976Was there for 2 nights for the first time. A calm quiet town just at the Swiss borders with a beautiful path along the river. if you are in the area, this is a recommended place. staff at the lobby bar was very nice and welcoming. (2.20)

Comments as follows: PRO’s: includes decent breakfast with eggs/meat/cheese, warm English speaking welcome, honesty bar, no garage but managed to squeeze my VFR800 bike into the v safe and quite large bicycle store (entrance is tight), v clean and quiet, restaurants a 15 min walk away (but hotel has one) CON’s: I had single bed

Not worth its price!
Reviewed By mrcocoricoThe rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel does not have a restaurant or a proper room service, which is extremely unconvenient as the hotel is located on a hill. The guest is therefore forced to visit the town everytime he wants to eat. One reason I booked this hotel was the presence of Sauna facilities these however were not usable as the sauna was already "overbooked". I think the client should be informed beforehand of this circumstance, as there is not much else to do in this hotel. Some of the staff were kind others were unfriendly and hostile.. This hotel is definitely not worth its price! Actually I would consider it more a bed and breakfast than a hotel.

Below expectations, smokers paradise
Reviewed By pa3ddgI was for business at the other site of the border and chose this hotel as it was at a conveniant location. The restaurant for breakfast and dinner is next door, just a few steps outside. The breakfast is good, dinner was less good, the chef seems to like food with a lot of salt on it. Not my preference. The restaurant has a seperate area called "smokers paradise". Not my piece of cake. Going back from the restaurant to the hotel, one of the employees was smoking at the entrance, not infront, no he was really standing at the place of the dooropening itself. Not very customer friendly. Some may say that I'm anti smoker, which is correct. So my critism should be placed in that perspective. But for a non smoker having to pass a smoker so close is not funny. The corridor one story up one could even smell the smoke there. The next morning I took a shower. There is a lot of mold in the shower. I reported this to the staff. When I cam back in the afternoon, from my job, to my room, I noticed that my room was not cleaned. Also reported that. Can happen that someone forgets that. Excuses were accpted by me. Next morning I come out of my room and I smelled the smoke again. So in my humble opinion, if you're a smoker or don't care you can go here. You have a nice view over the river and the location is good. If you have astma I would like to suggest to go to another hotel.

Good hotel for a reasonable price

This hotel was a lot better. it was clean, excellent breakfast, friendly staff and there is a swimming pool. I had a room at the rear of the hotel. In the morning you will know that the school at the rear of the hotel starts. But I had to wake up anyway. The bed was good, as was the bathroom. For dinner I had to go out as the restaurant in the hotel does not serve dinner anymore. I got excelent advise for my quest for dinner. This hotel is for sure on my list if I need to be here in this area.
