Set amidst the splendor of the North Wessex Down close by Highclere Castle, the setting of the television series "Downton Abbey", in an area designated one of outstanding natural beauty. The house, which for over 100 years has been a country retreat, still retains the feel of a private home where the Hamilton family provide a warm and caring welcome with comfortable lounges, and bedrooms where you are pampered with fluffy towels, local filtered well water and home made biscuits. Bedrooms are individually decorated, many with king size beds, spa-bath and some with four poster beds. The Restaurant serves award winning food (2 AA Rosettes) with a choice of dishes to suit all tastes. Being only one hour from London, Southampton & Oxford, and located close to the M3 and M4 motorways Esseborne is a convenient location for visiting local attractions such as Stonehenge or Highclere Castle. The intimate atmosphere in this small Country House Hotel makes it ideal for weddings and celebrations. With the option of exclusive use available Esseborne can be the location of your perfect party.
My husband and I visited on the 4th May for an afternoon tea. What a delight, such delicious sandwiches and cakes and cups of tea with teapots. The oriental guy who served us was a real laugh when he served people. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Put yourself at the heart of things with a stay at Premier Inn Hotel Andover. Right in the centre of southern England, it's a great base for connecting with big businesses or exploring some of the UK's most famous sights. Step into Britain's ancient past at iconic Stonehenge. Get face-to-face with wild ponies at the New Forest National Park. And the cliffs, coast, bars and beaches of Southampton and the Isle of Wight are less than an hour away. After a day exploring, return to our spacious rooms, great value restaurant, and extra-comfy beds.
Average food, several items missing at breakfast including basics like coffee and pastries. Rooms hot with windows that barely open, had to use air conditioning which is a poor alternative. Service was ok but wouldn’t return if I had a choice.

The Star and Garter Hotel is in the very centre of Andover overlooking the market square. This historic Hotel built in 1770 has been completely refurbished. All rooms with en suite bath and power shower , all bedrooms have flat screen television with freeview and free wifi. We have a bar which is open from 5.30 pm serving a variety of snack meals. Our popular breakfast is served 7 mornings a week. There is ample free parking. To find our car park use the post code for the rear of the hotel which is SP10 1PB.
Receptionist - Excellent, helpful and friendly Room - The room we had was spacious, excellent, clean and modern and the beds were both comfortable. It was one of the large bay window rooms on front of building and - as mentioned in other reviews - prone to be hot in warm weather. The Portable Air con unit did work effectively after a repair to the mangled extraction pipe at the back and then the pipe put out (correctly) through window. (If you don't do this and try to cool with it, you will effectively add (substantial) heat to an already hot room). Location - We were there on Saturday night and as 11pm neared, we realised this was a pedestrianised street with night clubs piping out loud club music and revellers until the early hours. As seasoned travellers who have had this experience before, so we just put our silicon ear plugs in and got on with it, but if we hadn't come prepared we would have had a very rough night. I'd recommend that the Hotel should lodge reviews that highlight the nightclub spoiling visitor's experience as complaints to the local town council to get the culture changed in the High Street as this could be a great spot otherwise. Breakfast the next morning was top notch and the chef did a great job. What can I say other than that for the price it was best value compared to others in the area, and if you've come prepared on Saturday night (and any other club nights) this place can work well.

J D Wetherspoon is pleased to announce the opening of this impressive new hotel. Our 30 en-suite rooms each feature a Freeview television and unlimited free Wi-Fi. A large and welcoming bar and dining area, with an additional roof terrace forms the pub, making The John Russell Fox a perfect place to stay – for families, leisure and business.
Staying tonight at this hotel to visit family. We have often stayed here but the hotel rooms have been progressively going down hill. I arrived here before my wife and was not happy with the room. I complained to reception and asked for a change of room. I was told that they were fully booked so not possible to move. I later picked up my wife and she was very unhappy with the room she complained again and my some miracle they found another room. Unfortunately it was the furthest it could possibly be from reception up and down a number of stairs so as we were only staying one night we decided not to move. Things really need to improve here, it used to be a well run hotel.

Room was clean and warm. Plenty of towels to go round with a good shower. It was quiet. The Swan Inn was as the receptionist advised 30 minutes walk away and worth the easy walk. Never used the more or less adjoining food outlet nor the service station. Reception staff very helpful.

The White Hart is an impressive building with history dating to the time of Charles I, with 22 querky rooms reflecting the age of the property each with their own appeal and character.
We spent 2 nights in the White Hart Hotel, on a bed and breakfast basis. The room was well appointed, with a very comfortable bed. We ate dinner in the hotel on both nights. Both meals were more than acceptable in quality and were excellent value. Bar prices were also very competitive. The breakfast choices were comprehensive and the quality was excellent. If there are negatives, the decor is in need of a refresh throughout the Hotel and the walls in the room were very thin, but that didn't excuse the excessive noise from the inconsiderate inhabitants in the adjoining room, on the 1st night. I would not hesitate in recommending this Hotel, especially for anyone attending Thruxton motor racing circuit, as it is just a 15 minute drive away.

Nice little place tucked away on a country lane with views across fields. Very comfortable bright airy room. Lots of nice little touches with an excellent cup of tea upon arrival made my stay a very good one. I recommend and will return if back in the area.

My daughter and I stayed overnight in a twin room. It was not en-suite so had to go out of our room to use the facilities. I did not pack a dressing gown. The room was OK, bedspreads did not look very clean, but the bedding itself was. The couple managing the place were standing in while the managers were on holiday. They were both very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. We had an evening meal, which was good value and very nice. Breakfast was included and was also very good. I think with a little TLC it could be a very good place to stay.
