This beautiful fishing village is a Nicaraguan gem, a magnet for surfers and sunbathers. At night, the beach still pulses with activity, thanks to a few popular beachfront bars and nightclubs. Surf clubs abound—catch a wave with an expert instructor if you’re a hang-ten rookie, trying to hang with the surfer big boys.

Casa Oro was the first hostel and surf school in San Juan del Sur. Before that it was an obligatory spot on the historic gold route through Central America. Today, Casa Oro is the first eco-hostel in San Juan del Sur, part of the Circulo Initiative, a family of for purpose businesses in pursuit of regeneration. Tourism growth and development often leave destructive side effects for cultures, communities and the environment. It doesn’t have to be like this though. We find inspiration in how nature works and use this as our compass for holistic creation. In everything we do, our aim is to leave places better than we found them. So far, it’s working. -- Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, Casa Oro offers a variety of budget-friendly accommodations designed with conscious backpackers in mind. We have both dorms and private rooms available. All of our dorm beds come equipped with privacy curtains for your convenience. The second and third floor boast a balcony that wraps around the entire building. A scrumptious breakfast is included with any stay along with free Wi-Fi, lockers (bring your own lock), free filtered water and access to a communal kitchen. Friendly vibes and hugs are also included at no extra charge. Our beach shuttles are conveniently located just outside the front door, surf school is downstairs and there’s even a RestoCafe/Bar, so all you’ve gotta do is roll out of bed and everything’s at your fingertips. We’ve also got donation-based yoga classes regularly.
Staff is incompetent and not reliable, don’t book a tour there, it was a total mess and unorganized. Kitchen was dirty as hell. Toilet didn’t work. No window in private rooms. Room had a chemical smell. Very Noisy on the night. No vibe. Breakfast though was pretty good although they didn’t bring what we ordered…Again Bad Bad Staff.

I’ve stayed in the same private room on two separate occasions, both of which were everything you could ever want in a hostel: clean, comfortable, friendly staff, right on the beach, nice view, great traditional Nica breakfast, all for $20 a night.

Their sunset view is breathtaking! Food was great but took about an hour every time to get to our table, i would order in advance if you’re super hungry! The toilet bowl in our bathroom was really dirty, thought at first that it was just stain but all the dirt came off after using the toilet brush. And since we chose to get a room with no ac, we obviously had to open windows at night cos it was way too warm inside the room, just wished they had screens in their windows to keep the mosquitos from coming in, cos they extremely aggressive! I recommend getting a massage from their masseuse, it was amazing! Felt really good after. And the pool was beautiful, just wished it was cleaner. Ow and they have lovely dogs!

We are located in the best area of San Juan del Sur, near the best nightclubs and bars in the city.

My girlfriend and i stayed here for 2 nights after we arrived from the Isla de Ometepe back in San Juan del Sur. We spent already 8 nights in Hostel Clandestino near Playa Maderas. So we knew the city and the beaches around already and wanted now to spend the last days surfing again in Playa Maderas, since we liked this beach so much. The hostel is nice and looks quite simple from the outside as well from the inside. We stayed in the private room with a double bed and the shared bathroom. In total, the hostel was very clean and the staff looked after it frequently, meaning the cleaned the main areas nearly every hour with a broom, because of the heavy wind outside and the open doors for cooling down the place. The bathroom and the kitchen as well very clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen was well equipped and actually, for us the first time, that there was some basic food like salt, oil or anything else provided. The common areas in the back were comfortable, but the wifi in total wasn’t really good. Additionally, which wasn’t the hostel’s fault, there was a blackout in the whole city (Maybe even two times during our stay, can’t remember that well). The staff was very friendly and was present nearly around the whole day. We paid in cash in advance. All in all, a nice simple place stay with good location in the city center.

My time in San Juan del Sur has been memorable for all the right reasons. In large parts thanks to theSpace. But more than the beautiful, cozy, and professional setting, it’s the people working there that make it truly fantastic. Special shoutout to Danny and Haider behind the bar, the manager Edwin (AKA muscle), and last but not least, the chef’s extraordinaire providing lip-smacking delicacies. Everyone is very service minded, greets you with a smile, and after a few nights' stay treat you like family. My 5 weeks there was everything I hoped for, and much more. I’m looking forward to coming back. Calling it a coworking center is perhaps a stretch, but they accommodate requests to make most meeting/video call situations work just fine.
