Brazil's former capital is renowned for its African-influenced cuisine, music and architecture. Known as "the Capital of Joy," because of its exuberant week-long Carnaval celebrations, Salvador brims with contemporary music and art amid architecture that has gone untouched since the 17th century.

Aside from the good localization, my stay at this hotel has been a very negative experience: they claim to offer a luxurious experience but the closest thing to that are the costs; from expensive and small water bottles to very costly meal options. I've stayed at the hotel over a month ago and still have been unable to get them to send me an invoice for the services, despite my calling them more than 10 times already... Truly a bummer.

In the heart of Pelourinho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are the three houses that make up the Galeria 13 experience: one for social travellers, one for those seeking a quieter stay, and TripAdvisor’s top rated Bar Zulu in between them. This unique blend of moods, sights and flavours has rendered us the Best Hostel in Brazil award as voted by HostelWorld members, and a place in Lonely Planet’s finicky section Our Pick along with some flattering words from the traveller’s holy book.No wonder: by staying with us you get tons of freebies, including our obscenely big breakfast until midday, caipirinha happy hour, swimming pool, and more.
Long story short, Almost no one speaks English in this town, so I went to the hostel to ask for some basic information about plane tickets. Was immediately told off from the owner (or a guy who acts like he owns the place) and to be honest I’m quite happy I didn’t book a room there. Obviously can’t say much about the rooms, but the service level is disgraceful and appalling.

By far the best location! See for yourself why we are a top rated Hostel. Our rooms are newly renovated, clean and comfortable. We just added a new Game Room, Gym and Coin Laundry Machines. Offering a fantastic complimentary breakfast and free WiFi internet. Private suites and dorm rooms are available.
I am a female solo traveller from the UK in my 20s and came to this hotel because I wanted to be very near the beach and have a break from sharing dorms in hostels. It is a great hotel - simple but perfect: - Clean rooms with good air con - Fantastic customer service from the Reception team, very friendly and try hard to communicate with me in English. - Large delicious breakfast buffet - 1 minute walk to Porto de Barra Beach - 1 minute walk to supermarket open till 10.00PM. Definitely recommend if you fancy leaving Salvador old town and maybe on your way to the islands.

Our room had a good view of the sea and breakfast is included in the price. Very helpful staff and the airport shuttle bus has a stop within a few hundred metres of the hotel. Many cafes and restaurants all in easy walking distance.

We came to Nega Meluca to stay during carnival and enjoyed it so much we rebooked for when we were travelling back though salvador later in our trip. The hostel is nice, clean and has a good kitchen with a balcony social area. But the staff were what made our stay. Diego was so helpful and friendly, her really made out time in Salvador better. He recommended parties and places to go on nights out as well as recommending a guide for when we visited lencois. When we left for the airport we realised we’d forgotten some belongings and when we rang the hostel diego immediately stopped what he was doing and drove them to the airport for us so we could get them before we go. He quite literally always went the extra mile to make our stay better, as did all the other staff. Loved the hostel. Thanks so much

The place is just a mess, bathroom looked like it have not been cleaned for weeks. We had garbage from previous guests still present in the room. Extra thin madrace and pillow smelled really bad, we had to use our clothes to sleep on. The guy at reception does not speak English. Another guy that works night shifts only speaks good English and he was the only bright of light there, positive and helpful. The main advantage is definitely the location of hostel, but they need to work on hygiene and use a cleaner standard. The breakfast, om my God, buy something from the store instead. Coffee is pure water. Additional positive thing was really cool sculptures made from bicycle parts. Check out the photos.
