Excellent hostel, close to Peña bars

Ended up extending my stay in Salta (there’s so much to do in north western Argentina and Salta is a good base) and I couldn’t have had a better place to spend a week than All Norte. The owner looked after us all so well, and his general bonhomie created a friendly atmosphere amongst the guests. It’s an easy walk to the centre of town (‘Salta Free Tour’ walking tour was a great introduction to Salta, and DO NOT MISS Museum of High Altitude Archaeology). Hostel is really close to the Peñas (local folk music/dance bars), which makes for an easy night out getting back. Also very close to a big supermarket where there’s a laundry service too. Highly recommend All Norte.

Very decent overnighting but thief is present!

I was exhilarated to be making such good progress on the Northbound leg of this segmenting “My World Upon Wheels/reTIRED World (Bike)tour, 14JAN-07APR2020, when the shared taxi dropped me off at this fine hostel first (29FEB2020). Security is pretty good, entering from the street, an extremely friendly greeting by the receptionist/staff and recognition of my “slow” mobility (I use a cane) by assigning me to a close by 5-bunk/bed room—no ascending steps! I also immediately signed up for a BBQ (500 pesos pp) that evening. I couldn’t have asked for better. Actually, I could have; because Unfortunately, the room key was not readily available, which should have been a red flag, and, most importantly, I did not immediately lock up my rucksack/gear in the provided lockers. Whilst enjoying the stunningly great BBQ of many different meats, someone had gotten into room 11 and stole the money pouch & tooth kit from my rucksack. Naturally, I discovered it when I went to brush my teeth, had a very restless night disbelieving that such a person could do such a terrible thing in such a decent hostel. Everything can be replaced—except my naive trust of hostels. I’m now just a wee bit more wary. Anyway, the room was OK, though there is one bank of universal outlets mounted upper bunk high, which seems ludicrous. I temporarily amended the situation with ductape. Also, on the same wall, there is a single bulb for the room—no individual bunk/bed lights. The bathroom was quite decent, though showering does tend to flood the entire floor. The staff are quite friendly and always work hard to ensure every guest has a brekkie of coffee/2-biscuits/spoonfuls if butter & jam. There is a flat screen monitor in the brekkie/lounge room. Would I return? Should you overnight here? YES! Despite the theft, I give this hostel my “¡Wheel of Approval!

Terrazas del Lago

as a hotel it's overrated

Reviewed By bertholt

A wonderful place for an afternoon excursion! The setting, the view couldn't be better. Sit on the terraza, sip a cold drink and enjoy! Staying for dinner is still ok, the menu isn't long, but you'll want the fish from the lake anyway. Be prepared for a higher bill than in similar places. Avoid staying overnight as the rooms are really run down. You'll need luck to get the fan going, you'll need it as the sun is shining directly into your window and the AC in our room was not working. Same problem with the light, only 2 out of 5 lamps were working. After having washed my hands, I realized the water on the floor and although after our complaint a bucket was placed under the sink and the floor dried it didn't really solve the problem, during the night I got wet feet again. Breakfast is just minimum. Only the price you'll have to pay is absolutely maximum. We had much better hotels in Argentina in lovely places for 30% less.

An excellent place for peace and relaxation.

Rubin the desk clerk cum waiter was an efficient and friendly guy who made useful recommendations. The room was clean comfortable and located a short under cover walk from the main building with the bar/restaurant. The grounds were well kept and very green with an inviting swimming pool all for US$101 for a night and just 22 km north of Salta. Dinner in the hotel was also excellent. We would definitely stay here again.

Central location and friendly staff

I spent one night at this hotel last May.The room was clean and spacious and sleep quality was excellent.I want to pay tribute to the staff-in particular to Florencina and Ernani....Breakfast was adequate and service was friendly. The only complaint I wish to make is that I was promised on the evening I arrived by Florencina that a taxi would be ordered for me on the morning of departure...When morning came the person at reception told me to get one myself at the street corner...This I did and,as he had said,it took only a minute...That said I am happy to recommend the place and give it 8 out of 10.

Give it a miss

Reviewed By EmAnt1204

My husband and I stayed at this Hostal last night and we really wouldn't recommend it! We were a little sceptical on arrival due to the fact most of the reviews for this place are very old, but we had to book somewhere ASAP and thought this would be a cheap and cheerful option. We booked a room with a private bathroom. When we arrived, the man at the desk (a pleasant man) explained that there was a problem and we couldn't have our own bathroom. Obviously this wasn't what we wanted to hear as we had booked a private bathroom but we were polite and went with it anyway, thinking it's just for one night and we will make do. We wish we hadn't. The men's toilet was blocked (disgusting, nearly made my husband throw up) and there was only ONE loo. One men's loo and one female, simply not enough for the size of the place. The rooms themselves were very basic, nothing in them apart from a bunk bed and a single bed, oh and a plastic chair. The breakfast room was possibly the most depressing place we have ever seen and you have to walk through the breakfast room to get to the shared bathroom, lovely. All in all we did not have a good experience here and wish we hadn't stayed. We know it is cheap and some say that you get what you pay for but we have stayed in some lovely little places for the same price, that have been very well cared for.
