Good hostel, simple with very good breakfast!

Reviewed By Nath2105

The hostel is a outside the city centre but at a reasonable walking distance (10-15min). It's simple, the room are quite small and the wifi connection is not very good but was ok. Rooms and bathroom were clean and I especially liked their breakfast which turned to be the best we had in Argentina! Good bread, a cookie per person, 2 different jam, dulce de leche, a big mug of coffee or tea and fresh pressed orange juice (without added water)! The staff was also quite nice. Would recommend it.

Hostel Salta Por Siempre

Very decent overnighting but thief is present!

Reviewed By Juanito_Hayburg

I was exhilarated to be making such good progress on the Northbound leg of this segmenting “My World Upon Wheels/reTIRED World (Bike)tour, 14JAN-07APR2020, when the shared taxi dropped me off at this fine hostel first (29FEB2020). Security is pretty good, entering from the street, an extremely friendly greeting by the receptionist/staff and recognition of my “slow” mobility (I use a cane) by assigning me to a close by 5-bunk/bed room—no ascending steps! I also immediately signed up for a BBQ (500 pesos pp) that evening. I couldn’t have asked for better. Actually, I could have; because Unfortunately, the room key was not readily available, which should have been a red flag, and, most importantly, I did not immediately lock up my rucksack/gear in the provided lockers. Whilst enjoying the stunningly great BBQ of many different meats, someone had gotten into room 11 and stole the money pouch & tooth kit from my rucksack. Naturally, I discovered it when I went to brush my teeth, had a very restless night disbelieving that such a person could do such a terrible thing in such a decent hostel. Everything can be replaced—except my naive trust of hostels. I’m now just a wee bit more wary. Anyway, the room was OK, though there is one bank of universal outlets mounted upper bunk high, which seems ludicrous. I temporarily amended the situation with ductape. Also, on the same wall, there is a single bulb for the room—no individual bunk/bed lights. The bathroom was quite decent, though showering does tend to flood the entire floor. The staff are quite friendly and always work hard to ensure every guest has a brekkie of coffee/2-biscuits/spoonfuls if butter & jam. There is a flat screen monitor in the brekkie/lounge room. Would I return? Should you overnight here? YES! Despite the theft, I give this hostel my “¡Wheel of Approval!

Giramundo felt like a typical hostel with painted murals and colourful walls and a cool roof terrace. It was fairly clean and showers hot when we used them. Staff were helpful, the girl who checked us in didn’t seem to speak English so be aware you may need Spanish. Beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets but room was cold with no storage space / space to hang stuff and only one plug socket by the door. Could do with a little more thought eg. helpful touches like hooks to hang towels and coats etc. Pillows were also extremely lumpy. The included breakfast was tiny/ not great, some cut up fruit and tiny slices of bread - probably the most disappointing breakfast we have had in South America. Had music playing most of the day which was loud and not to our taste, which is fine, but also some of it quite derogatory to women and made relaxing quite difficult. It also went on fairly late so if you aren’t looking for a party perhaps go elsewhere. Small kitchen with lots of people trying to cook in the evening. Not the worst place I’ve stayed but wouldn’t rush back.

An excellent place for peace and relaxation.

Rubin the desk clerk cum waiter was an efficient and friendly guy who made useful recommendations. The room was clean comfortable and located a short under cover walk from the main building with the bar/restaurant. The grounds were well kept and very green with an inviting swimming pool all for US$101 for a night and just 22 km north of Salta. Dinner in the hotel was also excellent. We would definitely stay here again.

Excellent hostel, close to Peña bars

Ended up extending my stay in Salta (there’s so much to do in north western Argentina and Salta is a good base) and I couldn’t have had a better place to spend a week than All Norte. The owner looked after us all so well, and his general bonhomie created a friendly atmosphere amongst the guests. It’s an easy walk to the centre of town (‘Salta Free Tour’ walking tour was a great introduction to Salta, and DO NOT MISS Museum of High Altitude Archaeology). Hostel is really close to the Peñas (local folk music/dance bars), which makes for an easy night out getting back. Also very close to a big supermarket where there’s a laundry service too. Highly recommend All Norte.

La Reliquia

Just right for me—and maybe you, too!

Reviewed By Juanito_Hayburg

This hostel was perfect for my needs; it is not too far from the private bus station, which is just around the corner from the public bus pickup/drop off, which is the same site for the bus to the superb Salinas Grande! I am SO GLAD that I was able to spend two nights here because that gave me just the right amount of time—one whole day—for having a good lookabout without straining my “aged out” (I’m 63) body, already becoming less mobile after very active younger decades. Maybe what I liked best were the lack of steps/stairs to ascend/descend to my private en-suite room. The hot water is nice, though to really stop the taps from drip-drip-dripping, I had to twist them really hard. The extra heavy blankets help with overnight warmth—I slept on the excellent firm twin bed, not either of the bunk beds (just as well—I can’t climb that ladder anyway). The individual lights over the bed are nice. Food choices throughout Purmamarca are plentiful, but the free brekkie here is quite sufficient to keep a body going. In fact, right next door is a succulent eatery for my last evening meal; the only downside for it are these HUGE two steps and no handrail. But it’s closeness and tasty food made up for that. The WiFi was good in the lounge, slightly dodgy in the room. The staff/personnel are great and will do anything to help you—that always makes a difference for me when overnighting. The only downside was that it wasn’t always quiet. I could easily hear what was others in various spaces and overhead. Oh, also I couldn’t figure out how to get the flat screen to shut down completely, i.e., the monitor stayed a dim gray so I unplugged it all. A mild amount of AMS probably exacerbated any ill I felt, which really showed itself at the pass. A good “lookabout” is exactly what I wanted, specifically to achieve visiting the third of the three salt basins (I had gone to San Padre de AtacamaCHILE, using tremendous Tour Connections & Sajama to also visit Salar de UyuniBOLIVIA), which all are unique but are also the few places which produce vital components for our essential cell phones! Staying in this fabulous hostel made it extremely convenient for me to Gimpwalk downhill to catch both the superb Salinas Grande collectivo (~700pesos), departing from the aforementioned corner—be sure to give the coordinators your name and be ready to go for 3-4 hours when they give you the departure time. As I’ve already indicated, my two nights here filled out more of my bucket list. I enthusiastically give “LA RELIQUIA” (and the adjacent eatery) my “¡Wheel of Approval!”
