Don’t let Boston’s rich history make you think this city is frozen in Revolutionary time. Boston is a bustling, modern metropolis and HI Boston hostel is at the center of it all. This modern hostel is close to Boston Common and the Freedom Trail, a metro ride from world-renowned universities like Harvard and M.I.T., and a short walk from the famed Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. Ask our friendly staff about self-guided walking tours tours to learn more about this amazing city than you will in any guidebook. Our dorm beds have everything you need to relax and recharge for long days of sightseeing, and our private rooms are comfy and cozy. But you won’t be able to resist hanging out in our common areas, too! They’re the perfect place to hang out and meet fellow travelers.
OK, so I knew the price going in, but it's the most expensive dorm room hostel I have ever stayed, in even the most expensive parts of the world. The staff: Just flat rude. No effort. Which is weird because, again, this is one expensive hostel, so you'd think they at least paid these people well since they claim non profit status and don't pay taxes. The room: Let's start with the fact that they claim less people per room on their site when you book. The beds are old, vinyl-like, with old metal white bedposts. The 8 person room might have been the size of a small hotel room (with no bathroom en suite, 4 1 person bathrooms per 4 rooms in each hallways (so 32 people). Plenty of plugs above the bed, storage locker and the WiFi was really good everywhere. They have signs claiming COVID conscious, but no privacy curtains attached to the beds makes me doubt it's not for show. Common areas: kitchen with fridge space (but dirty fridges). Free tea, I think, but no cups, so who knows. Ovens and countertop burners. Pool Table for 20 dollar deposit. Bathrooms are old and in need of a deep clean.. No events, music pumped into the common areas makes doing anything work related difficult. Location: This is Theatre District adjacent, meaning it's in Chinatown, not the actual TD. Pretty sketchy for a few blocks but close to South Station. Overall, not an impressive place, even if it wasn't twice the cost (or more) of better hostels in other cities. The entitlement to money for no service seems crazy to me. I've paid for premium hostels (still less than this) and they have events, show you around (and if COVID is the excuse, I've been to other hostels in cities with worse regulations that did way more for their guests and were actually nice). Honestly, I am surprised based on reviews, I was expecting more (and it didn't just fail to meet high expectations, it is probably in the bottom tier of hostels overall). Like the grey walls, it's just souless and barely going through the motions.

Located on 180 acres of primarily forest land, and equipped with modern facilities and educational infrastructure, we offer the ideal setting for a sustainable get-away any time of year! In winter we offer rental snowshoeing equipment and groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. When the snow is gone, outdoor enthusiasts enjoy hiking and guided garden and forest walks, while mountain bikers can enjoy free run of the forest trail system. D Acres is the perfect place to stay for rock climbers, located within 10 miles of the Rumney Crag! If you are looking to stay at our organic farm, D Acres offers a range of sleeping accommodations. Site options include private indoor bedrooms, rustic camping, car camping spots, outdoor tent platforms accessible by car and foot, and indoor sleeping bag spaces. Access to a full shared kitchen, great room, two full bathrooms, solarium and other indoor amenities. There is a resident cat that occupies the building. Prices range: $10-$95.
My wife and I drove up here from Boston to spend one night camping before hiking some of the White Mountain peaks. This place is a trip - farm animals, greenhouses, and wildflowers all over the place. We grabbed one of the couple tent platforms, but there’s also a lawn for renting if it’s more crowded. The outdoor kitchen (pictures attached) was very charming, though I’d recommend bringing your own stove. They did have running water to rinse dishes. You can shower for something like $2 for two minutes (we didn’t need to for our stay). Anyway, a rustic spot with more privacy than hit average camp ground and a few more amenities. We’d definitely stay here again and will recommend it to friends.

Our boutique bed and breakfast style inn is uniquely designed to provide an affordable urban dormitory environment perfect for budget-minded individuals, students and both domestic and international travelers. We are located in Boston's beautiful Back Bay neighborhood near Fenway Park, which has everything you need for a wonderful stay! Within a few minutes, you can be watching the Boston Red Sox playing baseball, grabbing a bite and drink from one of the many local restaurants and bars or taking a stroll down the world famous Newbury street for some shopping. Our 24/7 guides make sure every guest is well taken care of and enjoys their Boston adventure. Inside the inn, you will find free wifi, recently renovated rooms, plenty of space to chill, a game lounge with ping pong, a TV room and much more.
I had made a reservation at the Fenway Inn for my trip to Boston. The day I was leaving the hotel canceled my reservation without much of an explanation. I had to scramble to find another hotel at the last minute and pay considerably more. I am upset about how I was treated by this hotel.

Friendly Crossways is a family-run retreat center and hostel that provides charming lodging and unique meeting spaces for nonprofit groups, family reunions, wedding weekends and individual travelers. Rates are very affordable, in keeping with its hostel heritage: DIY bed and DIY breakfast! The amenities include access to a fully equipped kitchen, free on-site parking, and beautifully landscaped grounds. The owner-chef provides fresh farm to fork meals for groups and wedding receptions.
Friendly Crossways was such a fabulous and unique venue for me and my husband's wedding this past August. It is a large, old farmhouse in Harvard, MA, surrounded by stunning grounds and a working farm. Mary Helan and Keith and their staff were attentive, flexible, and incredibly hardworking - honestly every detail of our wedding day went smoothly and better than I could have imagined. My favorite part of Friendly Crossways is that since it is a working hostel (we rent out the entire house for the wedding though), we could have 30 of our closest friends and family spend the entire weekend there with us. It was truly a dream come true!!

The staff here was the highlight, very kind, thoughful and helpful. I had a request for my room and they were very obliging. At the time of writing, this hostel was recently renovated and both kitchen areas and bathrooms of the dorms were great. There are some simple lockers provided (you need your own lock, as is the case for many hostels), but if you are sharing with others and want extra security there are other storage options around eg. The hostel is part of an off the grid homestead where we grow our own food, build with local wood and stone and try to live in harmony with the landscape. Rooms include a private hut, private room for a couple or small family, small dorm, private single room. Evening campfire, communal dinner, unique compost heated shower, gardens, orchard, chickens. We also host tours and classes. Peace and quiet, stars at night, walking trails along the seashore.
We had a great 2 night stay at the Deer Isle Hostel. Annalise and Dennis are very welcoming. Their homestead is amazing with a huge garden. We joined them for dinner the two nights we were there, the first night was a hearty soup made from all their garden vegetables, homemade bread, with crazy good butter, cabbage slaw and fresh popped popcorn. The second evening dinner was a delicious vegetarian chili with rice, cheese, tortilla chips, herb creama, watermelon rubarb cobbler. Annalise is a great cook! They have an outside shower heated with composting seaweed which was really impressive. Dennis is a talented craftsman and their property has many buildings he’s built. If exploring Deer Isle is what you’re after the hostel is a great option with shoreline trials accessible from the property. Our 5 y/o enjoyed exploring the property and visiting through the fence with the chickens.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and didn't know what to expect. Marilee is great and she and her staff know the city well. The hostel was clean, friendly and fun. We got to meet new people from all over the world. Marilee even gives an amazing tour of the city. After this experience, I think I might always stay in a hostel when I travel!

Campground with 28 RV sites (water, electric, sewer, cable) & 13 Tent sites. Complimentary WiFi. Big Rig access. Onsite store. River Outfitter with rentals of kayaks (single & tandem), canoes, standup paddleboards, & tubes. Rock Hounding in our Sluice. Find Maine gems under our canopy.
We had a group of fifteen adults and teenagers and felt everything went very smoothly from booking to the end of our trip. The river is faster than the Saco and has less places to stop at for lunch or breaks but the views and scenery were amazing. The drivers were very nice and helpful and its great that you can take your time and paddle right in to the facility whenever you are done. We will be back next year for sure!

The Black Elephant Hostel is a very vibrant and comfortable space with unique décor and super friendly staff. We pride ourselves on offering clean and affordable accommodations in a location that cannot be beat! We are one block outside of Old Port and nestled among some of the finest eateries, shopping, and entertainment in Portland. We offer dorm rooms, private rooms, a comfy lobby, awesome locally roasted coffee, and an outdoor garden. Guests also have full access to our well equipped kitchen. All dorms come equipped with lockers with keys supplied. All linens and towels are included! We are also wheelchair accessible.
I booked a private room, “The Lemur,” well in advance of my trip to Portland. It’s an en suite small room with a full size bed (which was quite comfortable), included towels, hooks for clothes, closet with a couple large shelves where I was able to dump my stuff, a couple windows, and a well placed LED reading lamp. The lamp didn’t work but upon telling the staff, they replaced it early the next day. Yay! That to me is the proof of a well run establishment. The hostel had fun décor, a great common space, friendly staff, a great set up for the shared rooms (I got to peek in), free and strong WIFI, and a GREAT PRICE. My total cost with tax for 3 nights was $408.75. Worth it! The only "negative" was not the hostel's fault. There was early morning street noise and I like to sleep with the window open. Doesn't matter. I will always stay here when in Portland. Keith
