10 Hostels hotel in Hong Kong: Best hotel deals for 2023

May 4, 2023 Brandee Mangan

Hong Kong is one of the most exciting and diverse cities in Asia. Central to Hong Kong’s uniqueness is the blend of Chinese culture and British Colonial influences, which is apparent when exploring the various districts. Given how beautifully preserved its history is, Hong Kong is one of the best destinations for urban exploration. Beyond the concrete jungle, Hong Kong offers country parks and white sand beaches – it’s a city where anything is truly possible.

Amazing value

Reviewed By occasionaldiner1

Great value for Hong Kong. Huge rooms, en suite. Reasonably quiet. Good cooking and exercise amenities. Staff super helpful and welcoming - even printed off my boarding passes. Y Loft is very central in Chai Wan, next to a great local shopping district and the MTR. Beds a little hard, but for $200 per night, it was fine. Recommended!

Pleasant stay, great value!

Reviewed By grumpycheng

I'd always choose Mei Ho House whenever I return to Hong Kong at least once a year. The double rooms are spacious and clean. Service staff are pleasant. Plenty of options for breakfast. Our room was also decorated with vintage icons. But the best part of it is that it's really affordable. It's not located in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui or Central, but very well connected by bus and train. Plenty of eateries and bustle in Sham Shui Po, and lots of discounted tech around. Takes half an hour to get to both. A20 goes directly from the airport to Sham Shui Po, although my partner and I haven't been able to locate the return bus back to the airport. Anyone has any clues?

To be absolutely avoided!

Reviewed By Jedeve

This place is absolutely to be avoided. When we arrived the towel of the previous tenant was still in the bathroom and the room was not really clean (we had plenty of small bites after 3 nights and think bedbugs are the reason, our room hasn’t been cleaned during our whole stay). On top of that the bed is far from a double bed for a couple, maybe it can sleep 2 kids but not adults in a decent way. The AC is very poor making it even harder to sleep and so does the location (with seaviews, yes) literally on the mainroad with busses passing by till late. The internet is poor and works only in the reception area. That reception is not always monitored and if it is it’s hard to communicate cause they hardly speak any English. Anyway, i think it’s clear that we were not happy at all at this place and so we have mailed the owner several times since our arrival to let him know that we wanted to checkout a day or 2 earlier and were counting on a refund for above mentioned reasons. All our mails remained without reply and when we finally managed to talk to “the receptionist” he told us they refuse to refund us cause that’s they’re policy. Not really surprising cause we assume that a lot of people want to leave this place earlier than planned. We ended up working something out with the bookingsite where we booked our stay and left a day earlier cause we had some family issues on top leaving us with nothing but bad memories of what should have been the perfect ending of our holidays in the Hong Kong area...

Offering cheap accomodation and cancelling when you are on your flight

Reviewed By NoMoreTravel

Be very careful when booking properties located in Chung King Mansions if they are being offered at a low price on websites. Chung King Mansions consists of 4 blocks with 16 levels. On most levels in each block there are locked apartments containing 4 or 5 individual rooms with a tiny bathroom, that call themselves Hotels/Hostels/Guesthouses. We made a confirmed booking weeks in advance which was cancelled by the property on the day we were flying into Hong Kong. When we arrived at the apartment we were rudely told to go away as the rooms were full. We had 2 options - return home or book alternate accommodation within the building being offered by touts at exorbitant prices. Needless to say we were not the only victims as we spoke with other travellers in the building who had a similar experience. We cut short our visit to Hong Kong as our accommodation cost us an extra HK$ 500 a day. These are some experiences of travellers who booked accomodation within the building (2 of them are mine) 1) Guest turned away from the properties as their "credit card was declined" 2) Pay an additional 20% on arrival due to the high demand for accommodation 3) Nobody opening the front door or answering the listed number when you arrive 4) Cancellation email sent on day of travel All travellers are then approached by touts offering alternate accommodation at higher prices.

Hostel for hippies

Reviewed By LaurentCL2

Correspondence with Hop Inn was great. Check-in was OK. When you ask what you can visit or do at night since it's your first time, you get a map but no advice. The place looks like a hostels for young hippies. The bedroom? Oh well...it looks like a kid's room with paintings on walls full of damages that fortunately the paint covers. The room stinks like mildew because a smell comes from the pipes in the bathroom. I's terrible! Regarding the bedding, the bed is 1,90 from wall to wall. I doubt that the sheets were fresh but if they were, the smell and stains didn't give me that impression. The bathroom is "practical", the shower curtain is too short at the bottom and the floor gets wet everywhere. The fixtures are completely outdated and the shower head doesn't hang on the wall once you turn on the water. Besides, at the time of check-in, I wasn't told to turn on the switch for the boiler. Check-out time at 10am and no one at the reception.

Comfort Hostel is a great place for budget trips. It's affordable clean and safe. It's located in the heart of HongKong close to the MTR, taxi stand, bus stops, and market area. There is a grocery store for everyday needs just across the hostel. There are no amenities included with the room. Bring your own stuff. No meals are provided. There is a kettle in the room. And a common refrigerator in the hallway. Each room is provided with an in built bath area where shampoo and body gel is provided. No towels included. Common hair dryer in the hallway. The room we booked was sea facing as well as street facing. AC rooms. The garbage from the room is cleared everyday.
