Palander House presents the lifestyle of a bourgeois Hameenlinna family 100 years ago. The museum showcases a variety of room ensembles, ranging from the elegant drawing room to the servants’ kitchen. The museum is located in the north-east corner of the city centre in an area with lots of period houses. Admission fee includes a guided tour. These are held every 30 minutes. Historical Museum of Riihimaki (fi. Riihimaen kaupunginmuseo) was founded in 1961. The museum moved to the present premises in 1970. The building is one of the oldest in town, built in 1858 to the house of the railway station master’s family, ticket box and telegraph office. The newly built railway was start for the growth and wellbeing of the village of Riihimaki a hundred and sixty years back.

The Tenant Farmer Museum of Laurinmaki is situated next to Janakkala’s church of St Lawrence. There are various buildings in the Museum area; the Vahakurki croft, smoke cabin, blacksmith’s shop, sheds, drying barn, stable-cowshed building and windmill. You can also see trenches built by the Russians, StLawrence spring and ancient sacrificial grove. Cafe at summertime.

Skogster Museum is the main location of Hameenlinna City Museum. The downstairs holds a museum shop and reference library, as well as the Ooh, Hameenlinna! exhibition, which features funny stories and extraordinary truths about Hameenlinna. Yearly changing exhibitions in the main exhibition hall upstairs. 2019 seasonal exhibition Tales of the Spiritual World contemplates supernatural phenomena. Free admission.
