São Paulo (Portuguese pronunciation: [sɐ̃w ˈpawlu] ( listen)) is one of the 26 states of the Federative Republic of Brazil and is named after Saint Paul of Tarsus. As the richest Brazilian state and a major industrial complex, often dubbed the "locomotive of Brazil", the state is responsible for 33.9% of the Brazilian GDP. São Paulo also has the second highest Human Development Index (HDI) and GDP per capita, the fourth lowest infant mortality rate and the third lowest rate of illiteracy among the federative units of Brazil. São Paulo alone is richer than Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia combined. If São Paulo were an independent country, its nominal GDP would be ranked among the top 20 in the world (2010 estimate). The economy of São Paulo State is the most developed in Brazil.

We had a great afternoon with Max guiding us. Max was kind, friendly and knowledgeable and with a great sense of humour was a perfect guide. Add to that the fact that they adjusted the hours to allow us to do the tour as our flight arrived late. Neither of us have cycled much recently but the trip to MAU was easy. Highly recommended and a full five stars! Thanks Max- you will always be in our memories of São Paulo.

We invite you to take a journey to be introduced to the visitor-friendly tribe of Tenondê Porã who are eager to show their culture, customs, colorful gatherings & dances. In the southern end of São Paulo in a 1:30h drive, live in a demarcated area 1.2 thous Guarani Native Indians who preserve many of their ancient traditions and speak their own language also called “Guarani”. Subsistence agriculture is practiced, which provides daily food. There are cassava, beans, corn, banana, tangerine, orange and mango. Unlike tribes from remote north of Brazil that have greater visibility, urban Indians often struggle to be seen and heard due to the proximity to the largest urban areas in the country, but despite the hardships they graciously allow guests to have a rare glimpse into their life and culture. The highlight of your visit will most likely be meeting and interacting with the Guarani people. Offer them respect and dignity and they’ll reward you in return with great experiences.
