July 22, 2021 Tonie Szymanski

Pula is situated at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula and is the area's largest city. Located beneath seven hills and with views of the Adriatic, Pula's unspoiled natural surroundings are magical. Known for its mild climate and tame, beautiful sea, Pula also has a long tradition of winemaking, fishing and shipbuilding. It is also home to many ancient Roman buildings, including the well-preserved, magnificent amphitheater.

We’d booked this tour with Costco as we had had good luck with their service on previous cruises—and they did not disappoint. Our guide, Jolanta Car, was waiting at the bottom of the gangplank with a sign. There were three of us + Jolanta. We walked to her car and began the hour and 15 minute drive into Istria. Jolanta speaks perfect english and carried on a running conversation all the way to the first stop: a little farm restaurant out in the hills. After a brief wait for the members of another tour (which arrived by bus), we had a light lunch with wine and could see Motovun—an old tiny town built on top of a mountain. That was our second stop. Jolanta parked the car and we started up the hill. My wife had recent surgery and chose not to make the walk, and waited in the car. The three of us walked to the top and Jolanta purchased tickets to walk around the wall, as well as a cappucino. We spent about a half-hour there, then walked back to the car and continued to a small distillery, where the owner provided an overview of their processing and provided free samples. Very informative. We returned to the ship on time. It was a wonderfult time and we felt like we had gained a new friend. As we left here, my wife asked if she had a card—she does and owns her own tour company ([email protected]). When we got back to the ship, my wife wondered if Yolanta could set up a private tour in Dubrovnik. We had not as it was supposed to rain—but perhaps a private tour could work. 45 minutes later, we had a tour and a deal. The Dubrovnik tour was also excellent and we recommend Jolanta without reservation.

This city tour was very interesting and fascinating. I liked to hear all the knowledge and information our tour-guide Viviana could provide us with. She did this in a very good way, so we didn't felt to be in school, but together with a very good friend who knew a great deal about everything we saw around us. In this way also a very good start for our 2 weeks in Palermo to know, where we would like to explore more o go back to. Thank you very much Viviana, that was just marvellous! François + Esteban

The tour offers personal experience that can be customized. I try making the visitors feel as if they are visiting their distant relative in Pula who is giving them an easy- paced and relaxed tour of the town. I also provide my clients with information about all of the interesting venues and landmarks and offer them a choice of choosing where and where not to go. Entering the facilities that require additional payment is also an option, but I usually don't include this in the original price since I let visitors decide this on the spur of the moment.

We are here visiting Pula for vacation, with our two small children. We chose Vesna as a tour guide based on a good review from friends. She is absolutely wonderful. Her rates are far better than others. Also, its wonderful to just walk around with only your family and friends opposed to a massive group. She gave us wonderful insight to the history of Pula, and we got to see some wonderful monuments, and the underground tunnels. She will tailor the tour however you like. She was also very sweet with our small kids. I would highly recommend Vesna as a tour guide for Pula.
