Located in the south of China, the cityscape--Shenzhen-- is home to some of the most modern buildings worldwide. Although this area is largely industrial, it offers many tourist attractions, such as the Chinese folk Culture Village, Safari Park, and beach resorts. Perhaps one of the most frequented tourist attractions is Window of the World, which offers replicas of the Eiffel tower, the pyramids, and Taj Mahal.

This worthwhile attraction is part of Overseas Chinese Village (better known as OCT) and showcases the myriad minority ethnic cultures that make this vast country much less homogenous than imagined. It also serves as a great introduction to the history and traditions of China.
I loved the place (more than any other places in Shenzhen). I have focused on the larger sub-park, on left side, about Chinese landscapes and historic architectures : it is really great: a few hundred sites, each like 100 m2, showing a known temple, palace, mountain, gorge, walls (...), etc .. Each site is fairly well designed, with concrete (no plastic), correct painting, etc, including a few water flows to mimic rivers or cascades. It was great to guide the kids, teach them and let them discover all the variety of China. The funny part is that these sites are located, inside the park, on a kind of huge Chinese map (upside-down, though, you’ll see). It was by far my best experience in Shenzhen (more than Windows of World as second choice) or others. Note that I think there aren’t any playing items here (no roller coaster, etc). Written English information (dates, location, short historic background). Inside the park, there is one smaller half, on the right side, about pure Chinese folk items (presumably dances, houses, clothing, etc): it is not my priority (it would be too Chinese to let me appreciate it as it should): I have not been there and I cannot judge.

Our visit to the temple was good, it's close to the warehouse and port area of Chiwan, getting there wasn't hard, has a bus stop (TianHouDong), good, old, well preserved temple with positive vibes!!

Dapeng fortress is about an hour by taxi from Shenzhen train station (Lo wu). However it is worth spending a day in this place. The fortress and the houses there are worth a visit. Inside the walled city, there are some signs to guide you. Some of the old houses are converted into restaurants. It is good to see the original architecture of these houses. You may feel you are back to the old days. Unfortunately in some parts of this walled city, some of the houses are quite run down. The place when lit up us very beautiful. Day time also has it's own unique beauty. Worth a visit.
