Whether you’re exploring Vermont’s covered bridges, visiting Quechee Gorge or skiing at Killington, you’ll find Vermont to be picture-perfect. If you’re the outdoorsy type, you’ll love Vermont. In winter, of course, there’s plenty of skiing and snowboarding. In the warmer months, however, Vermont offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing and boating. If you enjoy boating, swimming and fishing, a vacation rental on Lake Champlain might be perfect for you.

Between the West Branch River and Route 108 is a biking trail full of scenic vistas and small town atmosphere.
Rent some good bikes and do it. Did it with family, youngest is 10. No probkem at all as the entire path is pretty much flat and paved so it is really easy to ride. Beautiful scenery all the way through, and some really magical spots to stop and admire the area.

Where natural history meets art: we are a small museum featuring life-like woodcarvings of Vermont (and more) birds. Discover, learn, and relax: indoors with the carvings, art shows, or activities for kids and adults; and outdoors on trails, in pollinator sanctuary "gardens", and in our walk-in treehouse. Includes gift shop, restrooms, bird blinds, picnic areas, and frequent special events and birding programs. ** Open Wed-Sun, May - October, 10am-4pm [Closed July 4] ** Open by appointment November - April.
So much to see an do. We visited on a rainy day, and spent about an hour inside looking at the carved birds of Vermont and watching the live birds outside at the many bird feeders. Then, we hiked up and back down the mountain. There is a treehouse from which you can view more wildlife. We saw a white-tailed deer on our walk, and there were also chipmunks at the birdfeeders.

We were early arrivals to the tiny parking lot at the trailhead. The walk starts gently through a dense marshy meadow, then gradually ascends through forest. About 2/3 of the way to the top it becomes quite steep; the average grade is close to 20% (1500 feet in 1.5 miles). Once at the top you are rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the entire valley. Well worth the 2.5 hours round trip. It was a dog party at the top by the time we left; it seems everyone wanted to take their pup up to the top.

A nature trail, posted with Frost's poems, leading to beautiful views of the Green Mountains.
Right now, it's closed off for work-- HOWEVER, I did walk it this spring when the snow was melting and there was enough room to maneuver. Just a beautiful trail. Try to walk it slowly, look around at the forest and read the poetry along the trail. Frost was actually a lot more cynical --- "had really worn them about the same..." for example. There's definitely a sense of peace on the trail as the brook bubbles through the area, rushing loudly in the spring and quietly in the summer. Fall should be beautiful there.
