10 Hidden Gems Things to do in Sydney That You Shouldn't Miss

September 24, 2021 Darleen Reid

Sydney offers plenty of historical and contemporary Australian flavor. The marvelous Sydney Opera House looks like a great origami sailboat, floating peacefully in a harbor. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets of The Rocks and then take in a street performance on the Circular Quay before heading into the Museum of Contemporary Art. The views from the Sydney Tower Eye observatory are epic – use this chance to get to know the layout of the city from high above.

I was amazed by how beautiful this walk was. At the top of the wharf, there is a short walk to the lighthouse where you can backtrack to continue along the path toward the rest of the track. great views and the opportunity to stop at the Mosman rowers club or to have a picnic overlooking the harbour at the end of the walk

Incredible views, regarded as Sydney’s best in the ku-ring-Gai national park. Plenty of parking. There is a 50m walk from car park to the lookout. The views are spectacular over broken bay and the radiant waterways below. The lookout itself is a large sandstone viewing area with a number of informative signs. Stop and focus on the bird and waves and then immerse yourself on the Aboriginal heritage walk

The State library holds one of the nation’s richest collections of Oz art. Recently saw the fantastically curated 10 Works in Focus which highlights selected pictures to provide a greater understanding of the works on display. Loved the Beyond this colonial lense, a rare snapshot of the living culture of the Palawa ancestors.

Thoroughly enjoyed this museum. Timed my arrival to be there for the included tour and so glad I did. Ended up staying almost two hours after the tour because there's so much to see and read about. What happened during the years of the Holocaust is an interest area for me and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to visit this museum and learn the Australian story. Thank you.

While staying in Watson’s Bay, I highly recommend a walk to Camp Cove Beach and beyond to the South Head trail. This little beach is tranquil midweek, and has the most awesome views back to the CBD. The water was crystal clear the day we visited and the beach extremely clean. It’s an awesome little hideaway and the walks from there are scenic and easy for most people. The photo opportunities are numerous and the little beachside kiosk is super cute.

Nielsen Park

Reviewed By JElliot32 - New South Wales, Australia

Nielsen Park has been a treasured icon for generations of Sydney families. It is a beautiful harbour beach, surrounded by bushland and with great views across the (on sunny days) sparkling waters of Sydney Harbour to the CBD and Harbour Bridge. Entry to the park is free. The water and the sand are clean and the beach is protected by a shark net. Being a harbour beach, there is no surf. It is great spot for kids, and for family picnics and events, with spacious lawns and shady spots. Now, the downside. It can get really crowded over summer, and parking in this area is very limited. Be prepared to park the car some distance from the park and walk the rest of the way. If you can handle that inconvenience, you'll have a great day.

Wow, my first visit but won't be my last It is only the muffled sounds of the surrounding city that break you away from the peace and scerenity , it is hard to imagine that such a pristine environment can exist in the heart of Sydney The gardens are immaculately maintained with water features a prominent centre "the Coy Carp are huge" and lazing about the surrounding rocks you will see countless water monitor lizards This is a must see and well done - my hat goes off to whoever is maintaining the gardens

The Gap Park

When international director and closet ghoul Alfred Hitchcock visited Sydney in the sixties this was his infamous point of reference. Locals know, and tourists do not, that this is the last stop for the desperate few, it also a beautiful location for a spectacular scenic cliff top walk that begins at The Gap Park.

St Patrick's Church

Reviewed By 78berylr - Greater Sydney, Australia

Funny, we have often walked down Grosvenor Street and yet we never noticed St. Patrick's. That was our loss. A beautiful 1840s built church which is well worth a visit - whether you are religious or not. The Altar, windows, statues, especially that of St. Patrick are beautiful. We will pay another visit, as when we visited this time preparations were made for mass and we did not want to impose by wandering around.
