Barcelona (Catalan: [bəɾsəˈɫonə], Spanish: [barθeˈlona]) is a province of eastern Spain, in the center of the autonomous community of Catalonia. The province is bordered by the provinces of Tarragona, Lleida, and Girona, and by the Mediterranean Sea. We love nature and we were thrilled to learn that we could hike up to the sant jeroni summit in Montserrat. We finished the choir at 13:15pm and rushed to take the 13:30 sant Joan funicular departing at the lower station. We started the hike at the sant Joan funicular upper station. It’s a moderate hike except the last section to the summit that had many steps up (more than 200). We got an information sheet from the information center at the monastery and it’s very helpful. The trail was very well marked and as described on the sheet. The mountains and the view to the monastery were awesome. It took us 2 hours 15 mins round trip with no breaks and just a few photo stops because we had to be back to Barcelona by 19:00. The summit was too windy for us to stay for more than 5 minutes anyway (bring extra clothes or scarves). But still good exercise and wonderful scenery. A must-do when visiting Montserrat. FYI, our hike was between the sant Joan funicular upper station and sant jeroni summit and it’s perfect for us (not enough time plus the fares of sant Joan funicular were included in our trans Montserrat tickets already). But for those physically strong, u can start ur hike from the monastery!!

We chose the private visit and our amazing guide was Lluba. We are fairly experienced wine lovers who have done wine tours worldwide. Having said that the private tour is an amazing experience for people new to the cava experience, or biodynamic farming, as well as experienced oenophiles. Lluba was both a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide and her tour was excellent. We elected to have the tour in English. We were able to sample several reserve cavas, and the 2008 reserve was disgorged for us by one of the current owner / vintners, Josep Mata. We were also able to sample both still wines and reserve cavas with dried sausage and breads. Very enjoyable and enlightening experience overall. Pricey for a cava tasting but well worth it.

Local wines and olive oil all grown and made on location I learned from my guide Emma during my wine tasting tour. The grounds are beautiful and Carlos the owner is very conscientious and values "local" growing a wide range of different grapes on the premises including Chenin and Incrocio Manzoni whites. The tour was an eye opener and part of the newer enormous facilities were hidden and perfectly integrated into the landscape taking care to preserve and use the original structures. This is a "must see" tour! I enjoyed a generous sampling of their excellent wines and particularly loved their outstanding olive oil that is made on the premises and available to purchase as well as their many wine options.
