Bannack State Park

A park with over 60 original structures still standing from the 1800s, including the old hotel, the governor's mansion, the Masonic Hall and the Methodist Church.

The State of Montana deserves a lot of credit for having preserved this marvelous ghost town years ago — and for letting the ruins speak for themselves (with the help of an excellent guidebook). Visitors are given surprising freedom to roam through interiors, including on both levels of several two-story buildings. Posted signs suggest that vandalism has been a problem at times, but fortunately I saw no evidence of this during our visit (a testament to the staff).

Iceberg Lake Trail

Hikers often wear bells and strike up loud conversations, so as not to startle the bears on this back country trail.

We joined one of the park rangers for this hike who was very good guide. We learned about the plants along the trail as well as about the animals living in the area. The hike up was pleasant and Iceberg Lake reflects the changes in our climate. On our hike down we had rain, wind, hail and wintery mix so definitely plan to have layers of clothes as well as a good rain jacket and hat.

This was one of the prettiest places I have ever visited. The water is cold and amazingly clear. The views all around are gorgeous. There is a paved highway all around the lake with many places to stop and sightsee. We had a great afternoon flying a kite at a lakeside park.

After spending several winters on the ski hill at Whitefish MT,and taking in as many attractions offered, I found this unbelievable project. I saw an ad for Jesus Christ Superstar in the local paper. Not knowing anything about this project, I did some research & discovered that the performers are professionals who work on Broadway, etc but actually live here. And the theatre is state of the art with great seating & sound. I was absolutely thrilled with this performance. I had seen this production back in the 70’s & have seen about 15 top shows in NYC, London, Toronto, Edmonton & Vancouver over the years and this one was right up there with the best. Of course Mike Eldred, Eric Krop & Amelia Cormack were superb, but every last one of the performers were excellent. The musicians were top notch and the digital enhancements really gave me goose bumps! Even the volunteer who showed me to my seat came back at intermission to see if I was enjoying the show! The lady I was lucky to sit beside, was a long time Whitefish resident who personally knew the players, was a wealth of information & very friendly. The whole experience was awesome. Thank you Whitefish! Thank you Alpine Theatre people!

Great family Tarzan show! Actors and actresses were very committed to their roles and you could tell they were having fun. Opening variety show was a nice treat. Fun intermission goodies are served also! Interesting that they're moving several miles away next year. Not sure if we would make that trek so glad they're in West Yellowstone this summer.

Stunning views and a suspension bridge. What more could you ask for? Highly recommend. But ... not an easy hike. About a quarter of a mile from the parking lot ... over rocks, boulders, and tree roots. Plus a covered railroad crossing that has 3.5 flights of stairs. Plus a steep drop to the river. Remember ... it is all uphill on the way back. But ... highly recommended.

We spent an hour and a half at this beautiful garden today. The lady tending the grounds was very welcoming and provided excellent information periodically and then allowed us to wander on our own. She allowed me to hold and pet a rooster --gorgeous bird! Pears are still on the tree and we were given some to take with us. Loved seeing the 125 year old apple tree that still bears fruit. Unbelievable selection of truly beautiful plants, most in bloom now. Do plan time to tour this lovely garden.
