Criostal na Rinne

From our small, family-run workshop in An Rinn, Co. Waterford, we craft precise hand cut crystal products for discerning customers around the world. The products we make are stories made physical. More than just useful objects, they create meaningful connection with our rich culture, history, nature and language. Criostal na Rinne is situated on the coast of west Waterford in Ireland’s Ancient East, near the Waterford Greenway. We are nestled a short distance from historic towns and villages such as Lismore, Dungarvan, Ardmore and Youghal. We are located just 8km off the N25 between Dungarvan and Cork near the R674 to An Rinn and Ceann Heilbhic. Visit Criostal na Rinne to experience the craft of crystal cut by hand, a skill that the area is noted for. Eamonn gives free tours and demonstrations both individually and to groups, showing the techniques of a master craftsman and explaining the history of glassmaking in the area stretching back hundreds of years to the present day.

We were told of this small crystal shop by a couple at our B&B. It is amazing. The master craftsman and owner spent hours with us showing us how he creates masterpieces. In fact, he is the one who was selected to provide the Irish Bowl gift from Ireland to President Trump when he was elected president. I highly recommend spending some time talking to Eamonn Terry. He is a true Irishman and artist. He made custom Christmas ornaments and a frame for my husband displaying his police badge. I feel honored to have met him and to own a few pieces of his work.

What can we say?!? A truly magical experience. Willie is so informative and passionate about his birds. He talked us through the whole process and made sure each of us was comfortable and all of the access that we wanted to the birds that day. We held owls, flew a Harris Hawk outdoors, and learned a lot about their care. It was a once in a lifetime experience!

Mahon Falls (a.k.a. Eas na Machan)

Reviewed By TarrenvdB - Ireland, null

The road leading to Mahon Falls is typically Irish: you desperately hope you don't meet anyone coming down the road towards you because it's so narrow!! The view is literally enough to turn an atheist agnostic. The Comeragh mountain tops are so high that the iuds were hiding them. There isn't a photograph that can do justice to the beauty and peace of the area. Some facts: 1) There is structured, free parking for visitors 2) Entry is free 3) It's in the mode of nowhere, so there's no toilets at the place 4) The pathway from the parking to the falls is longish, and very well maintained. Mostly wheelchair accessible 5) You can walk up the side of the falls too if you're fit and adventurous enough 6) There are lots of goats, and they leave lots of droppings all over the pathway 7) There's a bit of litter around as there're no dustbins anywhere. So if you're the litter pick up types, remember your picker, gloves and rubbish bag (to help people who's mammy didn't raise them right)

Located in the town of Fenor in County Waterford is an artist who is sculpting by Chainsaw, from felled trees. His name is John Hayes and following a course in Chainsaw Carving is now undertaking a giant angel in the churchyard in this village. A damaged tree which was 300 years old was going to be felled, but now has been reborn as Angels. It seems to be finished and currently it displays four angels at the topmost points of the tree with the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove above praying hands, just below them. Mary is shown below this at the base offering Hope to all who come. The carving is 45 feet high and 8 feet wide and I think this will provide a much loved succour to locals and visitors alike. I would like to see an explanation pamphlet prepared as to the artists’ motivation and the story behind why he carved the figures he did.
