Roccascalegna is a small town of 1,400 inhabitants, situated on the hills surrounding the Sangro river. Probably the founders of Roccascalegna were the Longobards that, coming from the North of Italy, from 600 AD occupied permanently the current southern Molise and Abruzzo. Because of this the Byzantine garrisons rallied on the Adriatic Sea coast.
