10 Golf Courses in Cotswolds That You Shouldn't Miss

November 1, 2021 Trinity Boughner

The Cotswolds (/ˈkɒtswoʊldz/ KOTS-wohldz, /-wəldz/ -wəldz) is an area in south central England containing the Cotswold Hills, a range of rolling hills which rise from the meadows of the upper Thames to an escarpment, known as the Cotswold Edge, above the Severn Valley and Evesham Vale. The area is defined by the bedrock of Jurassic limestone that creates a type of grassland habitat rare in the UK and that is quarried for the golden coloured Cotswold stone. It contains unique features derived from the use of this mineral; the predominantly rural landscape contains stone-built villages, historical towns and stately homes and gardens. The population of the District is about 84,000.

This was the last lunch of our visit to the Cotswolds to see Grandma and Grandpa; FYI Grandpa is a member of the club, and apparently he is a pretty big deal there as he recent won one of the competitions, being such a pro golfer. The lunch itself was almost as good as Grandpa’s golf skills; everyone chose roast beef apart from my Mum who had a chicken Caesar salad. I opted for a bit of everyone’s food as usual and I must say that I enjoyed every last bit of it, especially the chicken and the beef. My favourite dish however was definitely the baked vanilla cheesecake... yum yum yum. I must say the view at the club is really great; we got this great table right next to the window, which was obviously reserved just for the super good golfers including Grandad. All in all.. a super duper lunch, definitely Llama approved.

Disc Golf Course

Fantastic Family Fun! A stunning 18 hole Disc Golf course in the heart of the country. Meandering through 30 acres of 30 year old mixed woodland, There is also a 9 hole beginner layout for all levels of ability with good flow and signage. Tees are currently bark chip, chipped from the trees cut down to make way for the course.

We are dedicated crazy golfers and pitch and putters but had never heard of Disc golf. I feared the worst as I have always been awful with a frisbee and was roundly trounced by husband and 2 teens but really enjoyed it regardless! The course is clearly and thoughtfully laid out in a wooded area (which made it more challenging-I got a whack in the leg from my daughters wild bounce off a tree-don't ask) and there are 3 levels of difficulty. Took quite a while to conplete 18 holes and then had a lovely lunch in the "Shed" (fantastic milkshakes). Really fun activity with easy social distancing!!
