August 26, 2021 Rebbecca Marino

Denmark's largest island is so much more than simply the home of the country's dynamic capital, Copenhagen. Zealand also offers a delightful array of holiday homes and villas, pleasing harbors and sandy beaches, fringed by forests where castles lurk. Major destinations include the UNESCO-designated, Dutch Renaissance-style Kronborg Castle in Helsingor and the Viking attractions, cathedral and music festival of Roskilde. To the south bobs a flotilla of beautiful and relatively untouched islands.

Den gamle kobmandsgaard

The Old Grocery/ LF wine and brew in Gedser is a house with brewery/winery, cafe, B&B and a health clinic with a masseur and a podiatrist. In the cafe you can taste beer and wine made at the spot, and enjoy a meal as well. There are always homemade cake and icecream to enjoy in the garden. The store holds a lot of lokal products to take home with you. Nearby is the wineyard with tours several times per week, ending up in the cafe for tasting and maybe a walk round the house. Flemming and Lea Lind runs the wineyard and the old Grocery, and are passionate about brewing tasty beer and making good danish whitewine. The B&B holds 4 rooms and a schack for rent. It is placed next to the harbour with the ferry to Rostock. In the covered terrace there are often music and cultural events and a nice atmosphere with wine hanging from the roof. A short walk from the old grocery is the marina and a nice beach and a small forrest for walking. Welcome to the old grocery.

ASA

"To travel is to live" - Hans Christian Andersen. At the beginning of 2008, in a 30 year-old Mercedes bus named "HOPE," Julian Amery left London and a 20-year career in the restaurant business to embark on a solo, overland trip, heading East. After two years of wandering and adventure, HOPE and Julian felt the call and decided to return to Europe. They wanted to bring something back, and complete the circle. HOPE brought Julian safely to the harbour at Copenhagen with the images, tastes and scent of the journey in their wake. They determined to return to India and try to do something amazing. Out of very many things arising from the trip, ASA was born. ASA, pronounced "asha", is the Hindi word for "Hope". ASA are as passionate about spices as we are concerned about their production and supply chain. Our priority lies with importing the finest quality products and combining this with an ethical outlook on business by giving something, or even everything, back. Come down and taste the world at the little magic spice store...

I can't believe I found her shop on TripAdvisor! I was just grinding some nutmeg from my adorable little jar with the ASA logo on top and thought, I should look up that shop. I cannot remember the darling owner's name, but I spent quite a bit of money and time at her little stand. This spice shop is so adorable and left a sweet little impression on my mind. My happy smells place I go back to when submerged in travel woes...

Pleasant

Pleasant is a surf-inspired clothing label. Our daily life in copenhagen takes place far away from beach and waves, and because of that, our connection to surfing mostly revolves around everything that happens while waiting to go surfing. We use our clothes to make the waiting pleasant and each season we go out to find new ways of telling this story. Follow Pleasant on instagram: makewaitingpleasant
