Known as the safari capital of Africa, Nairobi is an energetic, modern city that serves as a fascinating introduction to both wildlife and nightlife. Music clubs pulse with life, shops and markets bustle, and a mélange of restaurants will tempt your palate in this former Maasai watering hole. Top sights include the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Centre and the black rhinos of Nairobi National Park. The compact city center is safe to walk in and taxis make other areas accessible.

There is another glass company next door that is not affiliated. Welcome!
We walked here after eating lunch at Rolf's Place, about a mile and a half away. The artisans move as if choreographed, but their movements come from long practice. Also take in his mom's retail place within 500 feet. Suggest 3 hours for this tour.

My favourite meal is chicken Akatongo salad. It was delicious from the first bite to the last. The portion is just enough and at an affordable price. Will definitely go back for more!

Utamaduni is the best African artisan market in Nairobi. Perfectly located in the leafy suburb of Langata the shop is easy to drop into on you way to some of the exciting venues in Nairobi such as the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust or the Giraffe Centre. You can sit in the beautiful garden with refreshments and then wind your way through a treasure trove of shops, with friendly staff to assist and help pack or ship if needed. Make sure you make Utamaduni a part of your Kenya holiday itinerary.
I have to admit - I found myself beginning to yell back at vendors yelling "Come into my shop and look around" by saying "Why? It's the same junk as every other store...." Thank goodness I found my way to the Utamaduni Craft Center. Some actually unique items, fair prices, and much better quailty than the norm. My treasure - a piece of indigo dyed fabric with a pattern that had been done shibori-style using straw for thread. It was the only one there, but who knows what you might find on another day. Lots of other things I would have loved to have brought home.

Tons of great items from 100s of vendors. A terrific (and relaxing) shopping experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. And they have a nice cafe/lunch spot in the middle too. Don't miss it.

This is the first time in my 9 trips to Kenya, that I've visited Matbronze. A friend told me about it. The grounds are wonderful to walk about. They have a variety of bronze sculptures, which can run from $18 (tiny elephant) up to thousands of dollars. Since I was carrying these home in my bags, I only bought a couple of items but they do ship. They also have jewelry, notecards. In addition, they have a nice restaurant area. Their pastries looked yummy but since I was having lunch, I restrained myself. They have a variety of coffees and softdrinks which we did have. Their food menu looked great too. Will definitely return.

If you are looking for unique Kenyan made goods… not the type you find at every souvenir shop between the airport and your hotel… this is the place to go. We enjoyed exploring the shops and having a healthy lunch at the café.
