There are many places to try sake in Niigata but if you are short on time this is a great option to buy sake after you arrive/depart from Niigata station. You pay 500 JPY for 5 coins to try 5 different sake. They also offer miso paste, cucumber and a variety of types of salt which can enhance the flavour (although I think I prefer to drink it plain!) If you cannot read Japanese it is worth asking the staff for their recommendations. There are many excellent choices which are very reasonably priced.

The Snow Monkey Resorts Info & Gist shop is based close to the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. We offer various things to make your visit to and around the park more comfortable and enjoyable, like snow boots, crampons, jackets in winter, and rain coats and rental cycles to cycle around the area in summer. Besides rentals, the shop has a variety of original souvenirs for those looking for a tangible memory of their visit, and sightseeing information about all things Northern Nagano.
The reason I chose to visit this snow monkey spot was because its nearer to Yudanaka Station and they have great merchandise. The one thing that caught my eyes was the monkey underwear which comes in red & yellow. Not sure if you can get this anywhere else. The selection of souvenirs are quite good as well. It was a great place for a little souvenir shopping after. 1.6km trek down from the Snow Monkey Resort.

We make and sell "Misuzuame" which is the traditional dried jelly candy in Nagano. Our shop, located near at Ueda Station where you can come on foot in 2 minuets, is built as a headquarters of Iijima Shouten. From 90 years downward, the shop became as a landmark that symbolizes Ueda Station now on. In 2007, our shop was registered as a "tangible cultural property" and became famous sight-seeing spot in Ueda City. The shop's Stony-like walls, iron fences and chandeliers represent gorgeousness of European culture, and calmness of Japanese style. In our shop, 10% of shop space focuses on our products such as Misuzu Ame and jams, but in rest of 90%, we put classical antique chairs and tables to relax you at the shop. Through many collections of antiques in the shop, which were selected by the last predecessor who loved both European and Oriental antiques, we are still driving to search the ideal style of the shop. Please enjoy shopping in our store.

If you like Hokusai you will enjoy and appreciate this beautiful museum. I came here especially to see the museum and it was worth it. Very interesting and inspiring and a great video introduction about Hokusai's life and artwork. It was also really nice to visit this small town, beautiful place.
