10 Gift & Specialty Shops in Kenmare That You Shouldn't Miss

September 3, 2021 Flossie Demartino

The “little nest” of Kenmare is part of the famed Ring of Kerry, making it a prime stop for a spot of lunch and a pint. But before you go on your merry way, check out the area’s Bronze Age stone circle, one of the largest in southwest Ireland. The peaceful glens and streams of Gleninchaquin make a wonderful backdrop for a picnic, which you can work off on a walk along the Kenmare section of the Beara Way.

The four of us went on a chocolate making course in Kenmare, Co. Kerry. The course included making chocolate bars, lollipops marzipan chocolates and chocolate circles. Benoit was very patient even when we made mistakes! He truly is passionate about chocolate and explained how it is made. I would definitely recommend this course to everyone! They also have shops in Kenmare and Bonane in Kerry.

Tucked away in a mews-style property on Henry Street, the Kenmare Soap Shop is a really welcoming and interesting place. All kinds of soaps, therapies and skin care, and some terrific art and craft products too - the cheeky greetings cards are worth a look on their own! I bought a bottle of the house's home-made liquid dog soap and it's brilliant. Our little minpin's coat has come up brilliantly!

Hallisseys

At first glance Hallisseys appears to be a typical Irish One-Stop Shop, and indeed it has stocked all manner of household goods, from groceries to paint, since 1954. If you pop inside the door to pick up some bread or milk you may find yourself tempted to wander the aisles and discover an Aladdins Cave of homewares and gifts. You can find everything from wine-making kits and cookie-cutters to birdhouses and paint ... and everything in-between! This year our massive selection of Halloween and Christmas items have spilled over into a 'pop-up shop' a few doors up the street that we have named 'Hallisseys Seasonal'. Hallisey's is a family business and its huge range of goods are carefully selected from established brands that are known for quality and reliability.
