Coffee drinkers will recognize Kona as the source of some of the best beans in the world. Get your blood pumping with a walk along the “Royal Footsteps” waterfront stretch of Alii Drive, or take stargazing to the next level with a nighttime visit to the summit of Mauna Kea. Waterfalls, volcanoes, and soft black sands are just some of the natural features that make Kailua unique. Shimmy your hips at a hula-filled luau, or get an eyeful of native history at the Kamakahonu compound.

Hours can be spent happily here looking at the gorgeous Hawaiian and batik fabrics, stitchery kits, yarns, buttons, and talking with staff who are knowledgeable, nice, and kind hearted. We arrived to see the quilt museum, which was closed, but the lady at the shop counter had a key and took us on a private tour. How cool is that!

Fun, exciting ,colorful art by Kona artist Cindy Coats. Everything from small signed prints to originals, in a quaint relaxed location directly across from the pier in the heart of Kailua Kona. Come and "talk story" with the artist. We ship worldwide
Vivid, bright colored paintings and prints depicting Hawaii, sports, aquatic life and our favorite Dogs. A master artist. We bought to small prints for our family, both of coarse featured dogs. Quite memorable.

Mrs Barry's Kona Cookies. Featuring Award Winning Macadamia Nut cookie, along with 12 other delicious flavors, just like your Mother or Grandmother use to make. Open since 1980. A Delicious Way to Say "Aloha"
Located in an industrial area near Costco and the airport, this cookie shop makes the best chocolate-dipped (milk or dark) shortbread cookies. There is a small parking lot or you can find street parking. It was our 1st time visit, so we bought both types of choco-dipped shortbread cookies and a bag of mixed cookies (to try the variety) for omiyage to family on the mainland. OMG, everyone went nuts (no pun intended) for the shortbread cookies! Although pricey ~$1/cookie, they are the most authentic & delicious treats from HI. Make sure you bring enough back because your friends/family will be clamoring for them and they will be gone in no time. There is no shop in Honolulu but you can buy these cookies online. We gassed up our car rental at Costco, stopped by Mrs. Barry before heading to the airport. They survived the flight in our hand-luggage. However, next time, we will have to check them in else they'll be eaten up on the flight home.

This has moved to the Queens Marketplace in Waikoloa, and the information on trip advisor needs to be updated. I suspect prices may be up as a result of the location but there is no question as to the quality of the images. Beautiful.

We met Ben the carver of these gorgeous necklaces, and other art items about 5 years ago when he still had a store in Kona. He has since changed to selling online, and in the Parks gift shops as rent was too crazy in Kona. This genuine art is worth hunting down. I personally have 3 of his gorgeous necklaces. Carved from bone, and he makes his own string ties which his wife Stephanie helps him with. Ben is the most heartwarming artist you will ever meet. He takes so much pride in his craft, and has recently successfully got a contract to sell his necklaces in the parks gift shops in Hawaii. Some of his necklaces are available in Kona at the Aloha Toe Ring store. Find him on Instagram & Facebook at Makaunui. You will not be disappointed. Ben and his family are great people and worth taking the time to chat to if you have the time.
