We are a family-friendly bookshop (both new and secondhand) and art gallery. Exhibitions change regularly. We are also the home of the annual book art competition, the Biblio Art Prize. We also host music, performances and book talks - please email us if you have any ideas! We encourage people to come in and spend time browsing, settle on a couch with a book, play a game of chess, give the pianola a go, and we have a great train track set for the kids! Open daily through January. Thus - Mon 11-5 all other times.
Such a beautiful place, every corner has something else to delight your eyes or brain. Enter through a spectacular orange door to a gallery of intriguing artworks regularly updated, then into the bookshop, a converted Masonic hall that makes superb use of light and warm timber colours as well as a rainbow of decorations. Books to satisfy every possible desire and very reasonably priced. Staff friendly and knowledgable. Didn't even mind me playing their piano while my kids perused books and played with the train set.

At a location on the Great Ocean Road in the suburb of Bellbrae Victoria I uncovered a 'secret' that is just so wonderful I can't help but share it with my fellow travellers! Less than ten minutes drive from the popular Torquay Surf Beach you will find nestled together a series of shops that collectively provide for one of the best shopping experiences you can ever hope to ... well, experience! :) [Introducing 'The Great Ocean Road Nursery' & Bellbrae Outdoor Living'. Just look for the two brightly coloured buildings - orange & green ]: Situated next door to the equally as stunning 'Salt & Pepper Art Gallery', this duo is a homeware & garden force to be reckoned with. My attention having been initially grabbed by the brightly coloured entrance I parked my vehicle for free in the large carpark and headed on in. Thinking I would see the usual standard garden objects such as a few plants, pots & maybe a garden gnome or two I walked passed the onsite Café & found myself standing in front of a huge central courtyard overflowing with every wonderful thing I could ever hope to find for both my garden & home. In the words of the one & only Hoodoo Guru's all I could think of was "like WOW !! ". Captivated I stood there taking in every fascinating inch & came to realise that what I was seeing was a truly brilliant way of showcasing what each of these businesses have on offer. Each of the shops open out into the courtyard so as to allow guests to wander seamlessly through each living area before also advancing if they choose into the heart of each individual venue. [ Outdoors ]: I sat down on one of the lovely ornate benches & let my eyes do the walking. What a stunning sight! Gorgeous Rustic Style Homeware including Candle holders, Mirrors, Wall Decorations & Dividers, Fire Pits, Water Features, Reclaimed Wooden Furniture & Fun filled Owl Ornaments made of Concrete & Metal. There were Scarecrows, Flamingoes, Plants & Ants even bright yellow Ducks & all styles of Pots & including the selection of Tables & Chair Settings they sure have the lot !! Later my husband & I took our sweet time browsing aisle after aisle of Indigenous Plants, Cactus Flowers, Ferns, Perennials, Native Shrubs, Edible Plants & Palms. A charming young man patiently answered all of our questions regarding the various plants. Prices are very reasonable & you can definitely uncover a bargain such a three succulents for only $15.00. The Great Ocean Road Nursery also provides ample gardening tips such as Organic Gardening Remedies, Black Magic Composting, Fruit Tree Pollination Charts and a Vegetable Planting Guide. If you are like us and concerned about our air quality then stop in and enquire as to 'How you can Grow your own Fresh Air'. Fascinating stuff! [ Moving Indoors ]: Venturing over to the Bellbrae Indoor Living I was greeted with a most welcoming smile by Lauren who spared no effort in helping us to choose a lovely & very durable Habitat Recycled Plastic Floor Mat for our bathroom before taking us through the ins & outs of the Handmade Guru Skateboards currently in stock. All manner of items are available including but not limited to Hammocks, Colourful Cushions, Soaps, Eastern based Figurines, Lamps, Wind chimes, Crockery, Clothing, Bags & Furniture. Whew...! And that is not all of it. :) [Summary]: At just on one hours drive from Melbourne, the Bellbrae Art, Homewares & Garden Centre is the perfect place to go for all of your decorative & landscaping needs. It seems odd to equate words such as 'relaxing' and 'refreshing' with an activity such as shopping which generally always has an element of dread, but that was in no way the case here. In fact sitting in the courtyard display I felt incredibly relaxed & on my first solo visit must have easily been there over an hour. Since that initial visit my family has been back numerous times & made many a purchase that have brightened up our life. The staff are all lovely people and have never been too busy to welcome any visitors. You can see the pride that they have in this business & what I truly believe makes this "mini shopping complex" unique if that each shop is owned & operated by a member of the same family - so you really do get the benefits of how interchangeable everything is. For us no trip down the coast is now complete without a visit & whether on the way to holiday down the Great Ocean Road or heading back home to Melbourne, we also will stop in to see what new stock has arrived & maybe see what is the 'Plant of the Month'. There is a Café on sight if you wish to enjoy a tea or coffee alfresco, however I cannot advise as to the quality or prices as I am yet make a purchase. Whether it be Summer or Winter you don't even need to wait for a holiday to visit, why not plan a day trip for anytime of the week, we know that you will not be disappointed. Thank you for reading this review, we hope that it is helpful. [Please make sure to refer to the review of the Salt & Pepper Art Gallery that has been written under a separate cover. Artist in residence's name is Catherine. She is extremely friendly & would love to meet you. It is also the third shop in the courtyard & I am sure you will find much to grace the walls of your home ].

Dairy farmers Julian and Dianne Benson launched Apostle Whey Cheese on October 29, 2005. Since that day, Apostle Whey Cheese has taken out a number of major cheese awards and become an important tourism drawcard for the region. Just a short drive from the Twelve Apostles and the Great Ocean Road, Apostle Whey Cheese is a genuine paddock to plate operation.
For a $1 a person you could taste 12 different types of cheese all made by Apostle whey. Not fancy in their approach but great cheese! They know and produce lots cheese rather than simply sell cheese made by various farms in Vic and SA. Not only that but our visit also coincided with the late afternoon milking of the cows which was a wonderful experience for our toddler to see in the shed next door. All 4 of our children enjoyed making their own flavoured milk with the Apostle Whey milk they sold there as well. All in all it was one of our favourite stops on the 12 Apostles Gourmet trail. Not fancy but very real with friendly people. A very family friendly place!!!!
