The village of Franschhoek (French Corner), tucked into the Cape Winelands of South Africa, is known as the country's food and wine capital. Galleries and antique shops fill the tree-lined streets, and vineyards established more than 300 years ago cascade over the hills just outside town. Local activities range from wine-tasting tours to trout fishing and hiking. The Huguenot Memorial Museum honors the town's early settlers, who fled religious persecution in France.

Allee Bleue is one of the oldest vineyards in the Cape. The estate that was founded in 1690 and covers an area of 135 hectares had not produced a single drop of fine wine in around 100 years, until 1999 when Mr. and Mrs. Dauphin purchased the estate.
This was the surprise package of our wine tasting journey while staying in lovely Franschhoek for 5 nights in December. Having driven past the estate numerous times over the years we decided for once to make use of the newly opened Purple route on the wine tram to check out this winery. Well it seems that was a mistake of ours to wait so long in doing so because our experience at Allee Blue was excellent. Having been transported from the front gate to the tasting room via a unique tractor ride, we were treated to a memorable tasting experience by a very accomplished young gentleman whose name sadly escapes me. The wine was superb particularly the Shiraz, the pouring generous and the whole experience is one I would gladly repeat and recommend to anyone visiting the area.

The African Art Gallery, a family business. The gallery is prominently located on the main road of the town of Franschoek, which is situated in a fertile valley, where world famous wines are produced and is steeped in history and rich in beauty. It is the third oldest town in South Africa. We stock and sell African Art, Jewellery, Clothing and a variety of Homewares. South Africa has very little forestation, so status masks and ritual pieces come mainly from the Equatorial belt.
