The Bay of Plenty (Māori: Te Moana-a-Toi) is a large bight in the northern coast of New Zealand's North Island. It stretches from the Coromandel Peninsula in the west to Cape Runaway in the east, a wide stretch of some 259 km of open coastline. The Bay of Plenty Region is situated around this body of water, also incorporating several large islands in the bay. The bay was named by James Cook after he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Māori villages there, in stark contrast to the earlier observations he had made in Poverty Bay.

Had a wonderfully informative tour by Ian who guided us through the cultural and scientific history of the amazing Jade/Greenstone. We felt drawn to two specific pieces which haven’t been taken off since and we were delighted to find these as it means a lot to my partner and I to have this connection to her heritage. Thanks to Ian and all the other artists/staff.

I have been coming to Jim's wine shop ... this visit had to negotiate around recent deliveries just inside the door. The narrow circuit between the vast stock adds to the ambience ... I start by looking but always revert to asking Jim ... he never puts you wrong and his recommendations are always on point and pricing great. I always leave with more than planned with bottles I keep for sharing with special friends. The experience in the shop leaves you feeling good and in doubt you have something both special and delicious. Jim's extensive knowledge is quite simply amazing. And by the way he has an extensive range of spirits too

Really yummy homemade food, pies were to die for! Also brought a lovely hand knitted headband from the lovely lady who makes everything in the gift shop! There was so many beautiful up cycled gifts and kiwiana items, for a small giftshop it took me awhile to make my around it. Great to see the Red Barn still open and booming for business! I have many childhood memories of stopping in at the Red Barn.
