The Crafty Squirrel is the working shop and studio of designer/maker Morgan Wills. The Crafty Squirrel specialises in stocking a wonderful mix of unique gifts, cool craft kits, homewares, vintage treasures and gorgeous haberdashery - collected from around the world.
If you are a crafty person, a lover of stitching, a creative type this little store will make your heart sing. Beauty, inspiration and whimsy in every corner and on every surface. I first saw it in Country Style magazine 5 years ago and finally got to visit. Worth the wait? It sure was.

The Amazing Mill Markets is a vintage market which operates across three massive venues located in Ballarat, Daylesford and Geelong. With a total of 12,000 square metres of undercover floor space (three acres) there is invariably something for everyone who visits with vintage clothes, vintage furniture, memorabilia, art, glass, jewellery, books, antiques and collectables.
I visited the Amazing Mill Market at Ballarat with a group of 12 people recently. We moved slowly along the aisles passing an amazing array of delights hidden amongst the treasure-troves of stalls. It is difficult to move quickly as there is so much to look at, to bring back memories of yesteryear and fun, quirky objects. It was a cold July day but a cosy wood-fire waited, blazing cheerily in the ample fireplace surrounded by comfy seating. We enjoyed a delicious morning tea of large scones with jam and cream and sausage rolls. These were made on-site in “Mai’s Kitchen Rules” onsite café whose specialty is Vietnamese Pork Rolls - I’ll order one of those next time. A great little lunch stop with excellent coffee and Vietnamese style coffee is also available. There are 100 interesting stalls onsite and 80 stallholders (some manage more than one site). These stallholders each work a 4-hour shift and many call in every day or several times per week to organise their stalls, swap over stock etc. ensuring that there is something new to look at every time you visit. An electric car recharge station will be installed soon, the only one on the freeway between Melbourne and Horsham and it should only take 15 minutes to recharge a vehicle. We viewed the Outback Room which included some creepy props from the Wolf Creek and Rogue movies. This created a lot of interest and is very popular with visitors taking photos in front of the F150 ute from Wolf Creek. The Outback room has a curiosity cabinet that children find very interesting and there is a fun activity to keep children interested looking for 20 animals based on what might be found along the Sturt Highway. Visiting the Amazing Mill Market is a real walk down memory lane and there were a lot of “oooohs” and “aaaahhs” as our group recognised popular items from across many eras. There was one stall dedicated to Coca Cola memorabilia – a very familiar logo and the distinctive red really popped out and caught our attention. Another stall had all sports themed items covered; many stalls were very carefully curated that you could spend many hours searching for a unique gift. Lots of stalls presented meticulously preserved vintage clothing, shoes and jewellery. We had a most enjoyable walk down memory lane… The Amazing Mill Market is open every day 10am – 6pm and Mai’s Kitchen Rules is open 10am – 5pm. So, if you are looking for that thingymebob to put on your thingamejig, I’m sure you’ll find it here.
