10 Gear Rentals in Austin That You Shouldn't Miss

August 30, 2021 Darwin Bolte

Every year thousands of hipsters, groupies, and die-hard fans flock to Austin for the annual South by Southwest festival, which has catapulted the Texas city up the must-visit charts for many travelers. The sandstone Capitol building is symbolic of the Lone Star State’s "bigger is better" mentality, featuring a gorgeous whispering gallery rotunda and 22 acres of grounds. Cool off with a dip in Barton Springs, a huge natural limestone pool that’s fed by underground sources.

Zilker Park Boat Rentals

Reviewed By buia2001 - Austin, United States

After a stressful month, my best friend and I needed some relaxing outdoor time in nature, but still in the city. It had been several years since we'd visited Zilker together, so we decided to head over to Zilker Park Boat Rentals. I was pleased to see that they had updated the place since one of the floods, and they were well organized with plenty of canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. If you're an Austinite or an out of towner, I highly recommend going down there for some R&R. Here are some tips for an enjoyable outing... * Go early in the morning before they open. and you'll find easy parking in the metered lot. The park so quiet and calming, and you'll have the pleasure of seeing the ducks, herons and cranes flitting around, as well as the turtles coming out for some sunbathing. It's also kind of fun to see the fishermen with their catches. * If it's sunny, bring a hat and sunglasses. * Avoid summer afternoons due to the heat. The water is the clearest in the fall, winter and early spring, and you can actually see the massive largemouth bass swimming around. Summer brings green, muddy water and sometimes toxic bacteria. * Bring binoculars for closeups of the birds and downtown.
