Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden

Everyone needs a secret garden in their life and you’re invited to visit Wendy's, a public garden and much loved oasis in the heart of Sydney. Located a short walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or stroll from Milsons Point and North Sydney train stations, the Secret Garden is a haven where you can explore meandering pathways discovering sculptures; enjoy a picnic basket or read a book at one of the tables beneath the garden’s canopy; or simply enjoy the nature and serenity of your beautiful surrounds. You may even stumble across a fairy. Created over 20 years by artist Wendy Whiteley, wife and muse of Australian artist Brett Whiteley, the Secret Garden is nestled behind Luna Park in one of Sydney's most spectacular suburbs, Lavender Bay. While its free and open seven days a week, there are steep inclines and a range of steps. Visitors with limited mobility may only be able to access the uppermost sections of the garden but we're sure you'll enjoy your visit.

A quick one-stop ferry ride from Circular Quay to Milton’s Point with great views of the harbor and Opera House, then a walk thru Luna Park and along Lavender Bay. A somewhat wild garden, a beautiful place to wander a bit and then to sit and relax, enjoying the peacefulness of the garden.

Tulip Top Gardens

Reviewed By amandajt2018

Tulip Top Gardens are a beautiful, less commercial option to Floriade and only a short drive out of Canberra. I went for the first time in Spring 2019 and wish I'd discovered it earlier! I love Floriade, but the location of the Gardens amongst the hills, with the small stream/pond, was such a tranquil spot away from the city. It was busy, but not as crowded as Floriade and, with fewer shops/stalls, meant it was very easy to focus on the flowers. The range of flowers and trees was lovely and large. The different types of tulips were clearly signposted, so it was easy to identify each one. Unfortunately unable to open in 2020 due to Covid19 restrictions, the family owners have put together a digital season pass. For only $20, you get access to professional quality videos of the Gardens, including aerial shots giving a viewpoint you wouldn't get from visiting the Gardens in person. The first video was a great mix of footage of the flowers and the gardener/owner introducing the videos and explaining some of the plants. I'm so glad the digital option is available, so that I can both support this family-owned business and see beautiful flowers. I highly recommend the digital pass for anyone who appreciates beautiful gardens and flowers.

Wow, my first visit but won't be my last It is only the muffled sounds of the surrounding city that break you away from the peace and scerenity , it is hard to imagine that such a pristine environment can exist in the heart of Sydney The gardens are immaculately maintained with water features a prominent centre "the Coy Carp are huge" and lazing about the surrounding rocks you will see countless water monitor lizards This is a must see and well done - my hat goes off to whoever is maintaining the gardens

Cowra Japanese Garden

Tranquil. It's the perfect word to describe Cowra's Japanese Garden. You can't help but feel completely at peace when you walk through the lush gardens and cascading streams which represent the landscapes of Japan: where the hill is a mountain, streams are the rivers and the ponds inland lakes and the sea. Is this the most serene place in NSW? Spend some time walking around the equisitely manicured Kaiyushiki (strolling) garden, designed by Ken Nakajima and opened in 1979, and you be the judge.

The Mount Tomah botanic gardens, whilst a little damaged by the Christmas 2019 bushfires in this part of the blue mountains, are still largely intact, like its counterpart in central Sydney, it's chock full of exotic mature trees and shrubs from Australia and other countries. It's a delightful place to while away a couple of hours wandering the paths that snake through the grounds. There is a nice cafe and small restuarant in the upper section of the gardens that have wonderful views out over this part of the Blue Mountains

This large (150 acre) private garden is truly amazing. Lots of landscaping and engineering was needed to develop this garden which is still being added to 30 years later. If you love cold climate Old World flowering plants and trees, this is your garden. Take your warm clothing though. I also think it could stand an Alpine Australia garden, since it is currently 100% exotic as far as I saw
